00:00 I would describe my lifestyle the most pinktastic thing you've ever seen.
00:05 I've been offered a million dollars to wear another color and I turn it down.
00:11 Do I think I'm crazy?
00:13 Just a little.
00:25 Monochromatic is someone who devotes their life to one color,
00:30 that loves a color and just wants to wear it, own it, live it.
00:35 I love it.
00:38 People love it, like they're drawn to me.
00:41 I could just be sitting in a coffee shop and they'll come over and go,
00:44 "Gee, you just made me so happy. I just love looking at you."
00:50 This is Kitten. Her life is 100% pink.
00:55 My pink obsession started in 1981.
00:59 Pink is the prettiest color in the world.
01:02 I don't have anything that's not pink. Everything I have is pink.
01:06 I have my pink treadmill, my pink guitar, my pink throne, my pink bed.
01:13 It's all pink. Even my pup is pink.
01:18 My name is Ella London and welcome to my sunshine world.
01:23 Ella's yellow life started seven years ago.
01:26 My obsession with yellow is very obvious.
01:31 This is my year-round tree, no longer Christmas tree because it's yellow.
01:40 I absolutely adore my smiley face beach balls.
01:44 These flowers here, this was my way of having yellow on the wall
01:48 and creating yellow walls without my husband going crazy at me.
01:53 Because obviously when you're married, you have to compromise a little bit
01:57 and my compromise was not having yellow walls and instead having all yellow accessories.
02:02 But dedication to living the one-color lifestyle takes more than just a few accessories.
02:08 I'm making pink breakfast this morning with Pinkerbell.
02:13 Pink food tastes better than regular food.
02:15 One of the really nice things about being obsessed with yellow is there is a lot of yellow food in this.
02:21 All about the coloring. I'm very pinkticular.
02:24 Bananas! Okay, these have to be my favorite fruit.
02:27 Yellow on the inside, yellow on the outside.
02:30 I've been doing pink food since 1980. I've done lots of pink cooking.
02:34 I eat yellow food pretty much every day.
02:36 It's good, it's good, it's cooked.
02:38 That's definitely done.
02:42 Okay, look at that. Now this, my friend, is a pink breakfast.
02:46 Delicious. This is good. Cheers, darling.
02:49 But life as a monochromatic could become a lonely place.
02:54 So Kitten went in search of the rest of the rainbow.
02:58 I was on Instagram, I was looking all over and I started finding people that were like me.
03:06 I found Ella through Instagram.
03:11 So, really excited because I'm going to get to see Kitten today and have a bit of fun with her.
03:17 And I got her a couple of gifts because she just got her new pup who I cannot wait to meet.
03:22 Pinkerbell!
03:24 She's right there.
03:26 I just got Pinkerbell and she's about four and a half months.
03:33 Do people give you trouble about dying your dog?
03:36 Only if they don't know that I use beet juice which is totally safe and vet approved.
03:40 She can lick herself, she's totally fine.
03:43 You know?
03:45 People love Pinkerbell. They just think she's so sweet and cute and funny and she's got her own personality.
03:51 Ella's here!
04:02 Oh my gosh! I love your outfit.
04:06 Look, we matched!
04:07 I can't believe it. I know I have the best.
04:10 This is actually something I've been wanting to give you for a while and it's kind of just a funny gift that you can add to your pink collection.
04:19 Okay. Oh my gosh.
04:21 No. Wait, how did you get? I didn't...
04:24 I had to wear...
04:26 This is awesome!
04:28 Shut up! I would put it on but I have the highest bun.
04:32 That is amazing.
04:35 So I have an idea for us. Yes.
04:37 Because you've got me such great gifts and I want to take you somewhere and surprise you with something.
04:41 If there's one thing that these two know how to do, it's find the perfect accessory.
04:47 Come on in. Let's talk about what we're going to do.
05:03 We just got in this beautiful round oval yellow sunshiny chain.
05:07 It sounds really retro.
05:08 You let me know how long you want it.
05:10 Do you think that's a match, Miss Kitten, or what?
05:12 Oh gosh, yes.
05:13 Let's sit at our bar.
05:20 Look at that.
05:23 I love that. Oh, that's super fun.
05:25 You want yours up.
05:26 Oh my gosh, I love this.
05:29 I love it. Thank you so much.
05:31 You're so sweet.
05:33 It's great on you. It's perfect.
05:35 These monochromatics cause a stir wherever they go.
05:39 My future I hope holds more yellow.
05:42 You know, I do what I do because it makes people smile.
05:47 Because it brings a dose of happiness to their day.
05:51 I'm always going to be pink.
05:54 It's going to be pink. The future's going to be as pink as possible.
05:59 I'll be in the grave in pink.
06:01 I want to be unique.
06:04 I don't want to be like everybody else.
06:06 Why would I want to do that?
06:08 All the colors and the clothes that I wear, it's what I want to do.
06:19 It's not for other people.
06:28 Imagine if a rainbow was a human being, that would be me.
06:33 My personal style is basically a mashup of all the things that I love.
06:45 Mainly being rainbows, as you can see.
06:49 I love rainbows so, so much.
06:52 I wanted to embody the whole rainbow vibe.
06:59 Clothes aren't just material things to me.
07:06 They're also things that can change your mood.
07:11 Growing up, my style was definitely not very colorful.
07:17 Back when I was in Singapore, I was actually born and raised there.
07:20 We didn't actually move to America until 2010, so about 10-ish years ago.
07:26 That was when I found out that I had depression.
07:32 It was a really rough time in my life.
07:36 I wasn't really coping with it very well.
07:39 I was always just in bed on Tumblr all the time.
07:44 I would see all these pictures of people wearing Harajuku fashion,
07:50 and I would think, "Dang, I wish I could dress like that."
07:54 It kind of clicked in my head, like, "Why am I holding myself back?"
08:00 I have a son named Enzo. He's five years old right now.
08:07 He is just everything to me.
08:13 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Run, run, run.
08:16 Run! Keep running!
08:18 I can't run! There's too many of them!
08:20 Okay, we're almost there. We're almost there.
08:22 Go, go, go, go, go!
08:24 The birth of my son pushed me to wear colorful, extravagant clothing
08:32 because I thought to myself that I want to teach my future child
08:37 to not let anything hold him back from doing anything that he wants in life.
08:41 And then I just started collecting more and more pieces,
08:45 and now, five years later, here I am.
08:49 So right here we have my magically colorful closet.
08:56 And as you can see, there are a ton of colors over here.
09:01 Literally about 99.9% of my closet has some kind of color to it.
09:07 So as you can see, the difference between my side of the closet
09:12 and my husband Edgar's side of the closet is very, very different.
09:18 I've never really seen that style.
09:21 I didn't know what to think of it at first.
09:24 She did not tell me she was going to get rainbow.
09:26 She just got in my car with rainbow hair, and it kind of outshone.
09:31 Him and I, we match on an emotional and personal level.
09:36 Even if he doesn't really dress up as much as I do,
09:40 I still love him regardless.
09:42 So right now I'm getting ready for a photo shoot that I have planned.
09:53 [Music]
10:05 So this photo shoot kind of came together for this magazine called Girl in Real Life.
10:15 It's a London-based magazine.
10:18 And I love this magazine a lot because it basically is kind of just about empowering women
10:26 and just, you know, women being their own true amazing selves.
10:33 So basically the whole theme of the shoot is just rainbow.
10:37 [Music]
10:50 Are you wearing the glasses the whole time?
10:52 Yes.
10:53 You are? Okay.
10:54 I just wanted to make sure.
10:55 I have no good time.
10:57 Oh, shit.
10:58 I don't know anybody.
10:59 [Laughter]
11:01 When I first started dressing this way, I did notice a lot of stares,
11:07 and I noticed people laughing and people kind of pointing at me.
11:12 I just, you know, got to thinking, why do I have to care what these people think?
11:16 Yeah!
11:17 There we go.
11:19 This is me.
11:20 Like, all the colors and the clothes that I wear, it's what I want to do.
11:24 It's not for other people.
11:26 I think we are almost ready.
11:30 I think that's a wrap.
11:32 Thank you again.
11:33 Oh, no, thank you.
11:34 It was so nice to meet you.
11:35 It was nice to meet you, too.
11:37 I love your photos.
11:38 Thank you.
11:39 You're amazing.
11:40 I love you so much.
11:42 I think it went really awesome.
11:44 Like, before the shoot, I was really excited but also kind of nervous.
11:49 She got to show me some of the shots from her camera, and they looked really amazing.
11:54 [Music]
12:02 I always forget that I'm dressed this way because I get, like, stares when I'm outside,
12:08 and I'm like, "What are they looking at?"
12:11 And then I remember, "Oh, right. I'm wearing colorful clothing."
12:17 But, yeah, like, to me, this is kind of like my normal now
12:21 because I wear these clothes, like, every single day.
12:24 If I could sum up my style in one sentence,
12:31 it would probably be to not take life so seriously and to have fun.
12:38 [Music]
12:41 [Laughter]
12:43 Did I do it?
12:49 Oh, yeah. You got it.
12:50 Wait.
12:51 My name is Jillian Vessi, also known as PixieLoxx online.
12:56 I'm 21 years old.
12:58 My style is very bright and colorful.
13:01 I love just rainbows and parties and anything fun and kitschy.
13:06 My style has changed a lot over the years, but it's almost always been Japanese street fashion.
13:15 I do dress this way pretty much every day.
13:18 I'm running groceries, running errands, going to school.
13:23 Yeah, this is me.
13:25 This is my wardrobe.
13:28 I love it.
13:30 Of course, you got to organize it in rainbow order.
13:34 What's a really fun one?
13:36 Oh.
13:38 Pocket full of crayons. What else do we need?
13:41 Absolutely nothing.
13:43 This sort of, kind of.
13:45 This one.
13:46 Oh, a little bit.
13:47 One of the biggest inspirations for my style is anime.
13:53 Specifically, Magical Girl anime.
13:56 It's just these strong women with magical powers that save the world.
14:02 And that inspires me so endlessly that I just kind of wanted to look like them.
14:09 [Music]
14:12 So, welcome to my place.
14:15 This is our main level.
14:17 I definitely like to keep my house just as bright and colorful as my overall aesthetic.
14:22 Just because I think it's very important to surround yourself with things that make you happy.
14:28 So, right when we walk in, we have some of my favorite things on this shelf.
14:32 [Music]
14:37 I originally moved here on my own in August, because I was coming here for my design school.
14:42 And when I found out I could paint, I just lost my mind.
14:47 And the whole place just became like a rainbow.
14:51 Fantastico.
14:52 Coffee table.
14:54 Pink.
14:55 Couch.
14:56 Pink.
14:57 Rug.
14:58 Pink.
14:59 Covering our bases.
15:00 The peeps candle to make sure we are always smelling fresh and sugary AF.
15:05 [Ding]
15:06 [Music]
15:10 I have some cosplays on display here.
15:12 This one, actually I recently made myself.
15:15 And I kind of like having them there, because it's like I can pretend that I'm going to put this on and like go to Sakura's school.
15:21 And then kill some clow cards.
15:23 Probably not kill them, capture them.
15:25 Nerdy jokes to myself.
15:26 Okay, let's tone that down.
15:28 [Music]
15:34 I started YouTube about five years ago.
15:36 Hello Confetti Club, it is Pixie.
15:40 [Music]
15:42 And it has become my main source of income.
15:45 In this first look, I wanted to do pure and cute.
15:49 My main goal has always really been just to spread fun and cuteness and art and just things that make me happy.
15:58 If anyone's wondering if it's hard to like keep the rainbow hairs out of the pink part and the pink hairs out of the rainbow part, it is.
16:06 I hope you guys enjoyed this video. I love you so, so, so, so, so much.
16:09 [Music]
16:10 I met Steve about a year ago.
16:12 We met at a My Chemical Romance tribute show and he had blue hair.
16:17 And I thought that was pretty cool.
16:19 I was with her with a friend and I was like, God, this girl's gorgeous.
16:24 Like head to toe, she was wearing just this crazy outfit and I was like, oh, I love it.
16:30 I dress fairly like business casual most of the time.
16:34 So when the two of us are together, it's like, are they even a couple?
16:39 [Music]
16:42 So we're going to go out today. We're going to shoot some photos.
16:45 [Music]
16:48 Hopefully we're going to get some really nice shots.
16:50 The weather's looking pretty good and maybe some things for Instagram.
16:54 [Music]
17:06 I sometimes feel nervous taking photos in public.
17:09 It depends on how like bustlingly busy the area is.
17:13 Romantic like, ah.
17:15 [Music]
17:31 I think it's really important to have good social media photos.
17:35 It's so fun to take and just choose exactly how you want it.
17:38 It's like a little baby art gallery.
17:41 Oh, my hair cooperated.
17:43 Yeah, there were a couple where your like hair did.
17:46 Here, let me, I can favorite those ones.
17:48 Why do people judge others for the way they dress?
17:51 That is the million dollar question.
17:53 I don't know. I can't even fully wrap my head around it.
17:57 But I think the world would be a much better place if we did not judge others for how they choose to appear.
18:03 [Music]
