The government is embroiled in an argument over prison security after 21-year-former soldier Daniel Abed Khalife escaped from HMP Wandsworth. According to reports, Khalife went missing at 8am on Wednesday morning dressed in his cook’s prison uniform. Passengers have been warned to expect delays as security checks have now been ramped up at major transport hubs across the country.
Following the incident Justice Secretary Alex Chalk said in a statement to the House of Commons that several urgent reviews would also take place regarding the categorisation and placement of all HMP Wandsworth prisoners and all those in custody charged with terrorism offences. Labour has said that the prison escape is part of a much wider problem within government and that grave questions must be asked over what went wrong.
Police have asked members of the public to come forward with any information relating to the whereabouts of Khalife who they believe will attempt to flee the country.

00:00 A nationwide police hunt is underway for escaped terror suspect Daniel Abed Khalif.
00:05 The 21-year-old former British Army soldier went missing from Wandsworth Prison in southwest
00:09 London at 8am on Wednesday morning, wearing his chef's uniform.
00:13 The manhunt has prompted extra security checks across transport hubs, with passenger delays
00:18 being reported at the port of Dover and Manchester airport.
00:23 The government has acknowledged public concerns over the incident, with the Prime Minister
00:27 insisting that prison escapes were incredibly rare and that the matter was being fully investigated.
00:32 "I know people will be concerned about this news.
00:35 The first thing I wanted to say is thankfully these incidences are extremely rare.
00:40 I can't give too many details because there's an ongoing police operation.
00:44 I hope people will understand that.
00:45 But I want to reassure people that public safety is of course our paramount responsibility
00:50 and that's what we're focused on."
00:51 Meanwhile, Kirstana has slammed the instability and inconsistency of the Ministry of Justice,
00:57 suggesting the prison escape was part of a much bigger problem at the heart of the government.
01:01 "When you have chopping and changing different justice secretaries, ten in ten years, ten
01:05 justice secretaries in ten years, then you introduce instability and inconsistency and
01:11 decisions that should be made are not made in the way they should.
01:14 So there's a lot to look at here."
01:16 Police have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information on the
01:20 whereabouts of the escaped prisoner.
01:21 "I would say, as in any case like this, don't approach Daniel Khalif.
01:26 Call 999 as soon as you have any information or you see him.
01:30 But please be reassured, he presents a low risk to the public and we're doing everything
01:35 we can to find him."
