00:03 - Okay, shocking news from our producer, Sam here.
00:06 He tells me that the Super Bowl betting is up.
00:08 This is shocking, I cannot believe it.
00:11 I'm kidding here.
00:11 I mean, this is like the most obvious thing ever.
00:13 22% sports betting volume.
00:15 How about sports betting accounts?
00:17 People that have signed up for accounts,
00:18 how far is that up?
00:20 - Yeah, you know what?
00:21 There were, okay, so since the beginning
00:24 of the football season,
00:26 we're looking at almost 14 million new accounts
00:28 from GeoComply customers.
00:30 GeoComply is the company that,
00:33 they're one of the companies
00:34 that does your geolocation in the US.
00:36 So every time you try to log in to make a bet, whatever,
00:41 usually you're pinging with GeoComply.
00:42 There's another company out there, XPoint.
00:45 So they have a lot of data that they threw out yesterday,
00:49 and it's a lot.
00:50 So there's 13.7 million new accounts.
00:52 In the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, Craig,
00:54 it was 1.77 million new users
00:58 that signed up with GeoComply customers.
01:00 And that nearly 14 million jump for the season,
01:05 that's a 28% from last season.
01:08 Now, yeah, this isn't all organic growth.
01:11 You're talking about new states, right?
01:12 You're talking about Massachusetts,
01:15 talking about Kentucky.
01:16 So you're definitely getting new states in there.
01:19 But as we know,
01:20 and as DraftKings has really been beating the drum,
01:23 we know that these older states
01:25 are still seeing really good business.
01:28 So I think you saw growth across the board here.
01:33 Notable for GeoComply.
01:35 Now, when they talk about transactions,
01:37 again, that's not always a bet.
01:39 GeoComply, geolocation companies are constantly pinging you
01:44 to find out where you are.
01:45 And they're gonna ping you if you're closer
01:47 to the border of an illegal state
01:49 than if you're in the middle of a state.
01:51 And so naturally, when you're in Kansas City,
01:53 you're gonna get a lot of pings,
01:54 but they saw almost 15,000 transactions a second
01:59 before kickoff.
02:02 That was pretty huge.
02:02 They have a really cool map
02:04 that they're able to break things down.
02:07 And it just, it breaks your heart.
02:09 For everybody in Missouri,
02:11 you just see all these red pings showing up
02:13 'cause they don't have the betting.
02:15 And meanwhile, on the other side,
02:17 it is just, it's green and luscious.
02:20 And it just shows how big of an event
02:25 the Super Bowl really is.
02:28 I mean, you think about events
02:30 that may produce a better number.
02:33 You think about March Madness, for example.
02:36 And on a whole, yeah, March Madness is more important
02:38 for these companies.
02:39 But a one-day event,
02:41 when you're trying to get eyes on a product,
02:45 when you're trying to maximize what you're doing,
02:49 I mean, these companies all work
02:51 for the Super Bowl, basically.
02:52 They work to get these customers up and running,
02:56 and then they'll try to string you through
02:58 until football season starts again.
03:00 So yeah, I mean, I'm not exactly shocked
03:03 to see an incredibly healthy Super Bowl betting market.
03:07 But one thing that we are looking at, though,
03:09 is just how these companies are going to do
03:12 from a revenue and profit standpoint, frankly.
03:15 Because obviously, the way that the game shook out
03:18 was really good for bettors.
03:19 So we're hearing, we're seeing different things.
03:22 There's some analysts that are saying,
03:24 there may be a negative hold, they may have lost money,
03:27 while others are saying, well,
03:29 when you look at the companies
03:30 that are really pushing the same game parlays,
03:32 DraftKings and FanDuel,
03:34 they may have had double-digit holds.
03:35 So we have some work to do
03:37 to find out what really happened.
03:39 FanDuel, by the way, more than 14 million bets,
03:42 $307 million in handle on the game,
03:44 that's a new record, too,
03:46 from 2.5 million active users.
03:48 So we're going to wait and see just how these companies did.
03:53 But at the end of the day,
03:56 if they lost a couple million dollars from the Super Bowl,
03:59 the FaceTime they get from the advertising,
04:03 the promotions that they're able to send out now
04:06 and try to keep those new customers from leaving,
04:10 you know, everybody's working on retention now,
04:12 you have to say the Super Bowl
04:13 was a win for everybody involved.
