00:00It's a case that's unrivaled here in the Hunter Valley in terms of the number of fatalities
00:06in a single road accident.
00:08Now in June last year, a bus being driven by Brett Andrew Button, it crashed at a roundabout
00:14at Greta in the Hunter Valley.
00:16It was carrying wedding guests, 10 of those died, 25 people were injured.
00:22Now it was certainly a crash that sent shockwaves through the region and in the years since
00:27we've had various court attendances and now we're at this point where we're up to submissions
00:35and sentencing hearing.
00:36Now today Judge Roy Ellis set aside three days for a sentencing hearing.
00:41He noted that 35 victim impact statements would be delivered in court and that at least
00:4760 plus people would be in attendance to watch proceedings and that an overflow courtroom
00:53would be needed to accommodate the people attending.
00:56Now in addition we were told that essentially there'll be provisions to get people in and
01:01out of the courthouse given the sheer number of people who'll be here.
01:06Now Defence Barrister Paul Rosser KC today asked that Button be excused from attending
01:12in person on the first day of the sentencing hearing and that he appear via AVL.
01:17But Judge Ellis said that he couldn't see a reason why he shouldn't be here and ultimately
01:22said no he needs to be here as those victims deliver their statements in court.
01:28So essentially we've got the three days set aside starting September the 9th to September
01:33the 11th.
01:34Now today really has come at a time where it's been a harrowing week for families.
01:39On Tuesday they marked the one year anniversary of this road accident and they're campaigning
01:45now in the wake of that for some road safety reform to honour those people who have lost.
