00:00Mandingo Road Princess Town is no stranger to devastating landslips which
00:06claim entire homes and threaten to cut off communities. In fact it's once again
00:12their current predicament. This was one of five landslip sites highlighted by
00:18residents on Tuesday during a motorcade protest through the rural communities
00:23home to thousands. Since 1970 I married and I was living here. And up till now my
00:32house has gone over two years now. No help from no one. What happened here is
00:39very heartbreaking. This is something I don't think that will ever get back in
00:43life again. So if the authorities could do things to stop this thing from
00:48happening to people it will be a good. Two families comprising eight people
00:53were displaced recently when these two houses collapsed within a month of each
00:58other and the main road is on the brink of a similar fate. Over in Sahada Trace a
01:05delayed and slow-moving project has removed all physical reminders of the
01:11massive home that stood here just a few years ago. Then it was on to Lengua Road
01:17near John Lendor Trace where residents say construction on about 200 feet of
01:23road has been stalled for over a year. A nightmare for hundreds on their daily
01:29commute as well as the homeowners who suffer more.
01:33My name is Shirlene Franklin and I reside in the house in the middle of the cave land.
01:39When the rainfall is mud and water coming down into my home. It's dust, right?
01:47I have no access to my property from the road.
01:51They are telling me that the government didn't pay them no money and they don't have the
01:57run out of funds and all this kind of thing. That is not my problem.
02:01You all are inconveniencing me.
02:04At each of the locations highlighted the impacted roads were reduced and remain single lane.
02:11We have gotten up this morning and we started to speak. We have been speaking about these issues for a number of years.
02:17We have written to all the ministers. We have written to everyone in authority.
02:22And the responses that we have gotten is little. And this morning we have taken to this protest.
02:27We have a peaceful protest. But that does not mean that we are docile people.
02:32That does not mean that we are going to sit down and take what we are getting all the time and sit back.
02:37And when you pair bad roads with families going weeks without water in their taps.
02:42Well, these residents say equality for all, as sung in our nation's anthem, has for too long not been the Princess Town experience.
02:53We are asking the government to have a heart. To have a heart and help the people.
02:58Help all of us in the community. Give us water. Water is life. Give us water.
03:03Give us a better way to drive, a better road to drive on. Not like this.
