The family of Vijayalakshmi, who tragically fell into an eight-metre-deep sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 23, conducted a final religious ceremony at the site before returning to India on Sunday (Sept 1).

00:00The family of G. Vijayalakshmi, the victim of a sinkhole collapse incident on Jalan Masjid,
00:06India, conducted a final religious ceremony at the site on Sunday before returning to

00:13Astro Awani reported that Vijayalakshmi's husband, son and sister performed the Hindu
00:19rituals by lighting oil lamps and ringing bells.
00:23They were seen taking a clump of soil, which they placed in a plastic bag, presumably to
00:28take back to India.
00:30It is understood that the family would depart for India at 5pm.
00:35Some passers-by were also seen performing prayers at the site, which has been cordoned
00:39off.
00:40The 48-year-old victim, from Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh, India, went missing after falling
00:46into the 8-metre deep sinkhole on August 23rd.
00:50Despite various efforts, including the use of scuba units and sniffer dogs, the search
00:55team failed to locate her.
00:58The government decided to call off the search operation on Saturday after considering safety
01:04issues involving the rescuers and the public, and the continuity of businesses in the area.
