00:00All right, ladies and gentlemen, we're still here from Tampa Bay Comic Con 2019.
00:03Speedy Jr. here on the floor. I'm here with William Heisen. Welcome.
00:06Nice to meet you.
00:07Welcome to Tampa.
00:08Doing swell.
00:09Are you local or no?
00:09No, I'm from Bismarck, North Dakota.
00:11Oh, right. Well, I never been to North Dakota yet.
00:13Yeah, it's a good time. It's a pretty fun place to be.
00:16It's a lot warmer here in Tampa.
00:18Yeah, yes, it is. Yes, it is. It's a lot of rain in London.
00:22It's a give or take, you know?
00:24It's absolutely a little bit of a trade-off.
00:26Yeah, yeah. So, you are a writer and you have your own books, your own fantasy novels, right?
00:32That's correct.
00:33And right in your hands right here, was that the first one?
00:36Actually, no. I did it backwards. Yep, this is the first one.
00:39Okay.
00:39This is Warrior of Light.
00:41Warrior of Light, uh-huh.
00:42It's a medieval fantasy adventure about a group of refugees.
00:45They're trying to defeat an evil sorcerer.
00:47Yeah.
00:47A lot of magic, a lot of battles, a lot of monsters.
00:50Wow.
00:50And then this is the sequel to it, City of Darkness.
00:53It kind of picks up after Warrior of Light left off.
00:56Right.
00:56Same characters, they go on a new adventure.
00:59So, I grew up reading fantasy.
01:01I loved it.
01:02I loved the good versus evil battles, and so now it's what I write.
01:05Yeah, I was able to like Dragonlance, so...
01:07Yes.
01:08Marga Weiss, Tracy Hickman.
01:10Game of Thrones before it was cool.
01:12Yeah, it's true.
01:12Yeah, back in the day.
01:14Back in 19...
01:15I think it was 1996 or so.
01:17Martin published the first one.
01:18Yep, yep, yep.
01:19Wheel of Time, Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks.
01:22Thank you so much.
01:23Bulgarian by David Hittings.
01:25So, tell your story, your approach to your fantasy story.
01:30What can a reader expect?
01:32Yeah, so I really enjoy fast-paced adventure stories.
01:36And so, my stories are going to be adventure fantasy, first and foremost.
01:42There's definitely going to be a lot of heavy, usually a heavy focus on good versus evil.
01:47Magic, I like magic.
01:48It plays a fundamental role in the plot.
01:51And then, beneath the surface, I usually like to ask some philosophical questions.
01:55The very first book, while there's all the action going back and forth, it also has to
02:00deal with adjusting to power and adjusting to loss and growing up.
02:03And the second book really gets into free will and faith and destiny.
02:08And so, while there's all this action and adventure going on, kind of on the top of the
02:14surface, beneath the surface, I like to dig in and ask some questions that maybe the reader
02:18can walk away with after the fact.
02:19Very cool, very cool.
02:21All right, so if anybody's a fan of fantasy novels, where can they get your novels besides
02:28coming to Tampa Bay Comic Con this weekend, right?
02:30Other than Tampa Bay Comic Con, I'm on Amazon, I'm on Barnes & Noble, I'm on Nook, I'm on
02:36Kindle.
02:37My website is williamhinesen.com.
02:41It's just my full name.
02:43And then a .com after it on Instagram.
02:47That's a cool offer name.
02:48Thank you, I appreciate that.
02:51I go by Bill, but the full name's William.
02:54Instagram is whinesen, so I try to be really easy to find, and there's links to all my
02:59stuff there.
03:00Very cool, very cool.
03:01Thank you for your time.
03:02Thank you, I appreciate the opportunity.
03:04No problem.
03:05We'll come back for more here on the floor of Tampa Bay Comic Con 2019.
03:08Keep close to Congress.
03:09Speak to Judy.
