00:00like that black sabbath mug zach sabbath oh zach sabbath okay a little bit of the glare i didn't
00:06see that got you when was last time you saw him it had to be recently right um it was
00:11about six
00:11months ago i was in fort wayne indiana and i was uh texting with uh nick bocott who works at
00:19the
00:19big uh sweet water water sure yeah place out there and i said hey i'm in town performing man
00:24if you want to come out you know i'll set you up on the guest list and he's like oh
00:28you know i'm
00:28going to see uh zach and the boys tonight and i was like what he's like yeah the exact sabbath's
00:34in
00:34town so uh i texted jd and i said hey what time are you going on they said nine my
00:39show was over by nine
00:4015 minutes away so you know i missed the first couple tunes but i got there and uh yeah just
00:45zach's face when he saw me standing on the side of the stage it's like why would my fellow jersey
00:51boy
00:51be in fort wayne indiana but yeah it was great man i love jd he's one of the few rock
00:57stars i'm taller
00:57than and a lot taller than as a matter of fact i like zach uh you know you go to
01:02zach's side of
01:03the stage the amps are all nice and clean there's nothing sitting on top of him jd has drinks all
01:08kinds of stuff on his i go zach what's up with that he goes we call that the low rent
01:12district
01:14and there's a there's a certain scent to jd's side too there is there's something um i don't know and
01:21it seems the same place everywhere they play i know i go there a lot because jd like yourself are
01:27big hockey fans and so whenever uh uh darren mccarty and i get together we always go and see
01:31the guys from uh zach sabbath and of course uh bls and whatnot but it's pretty cool that all these
01:37years later i mean you get to do comedy and stuff but you get to travel the country and see
01:43some of
01:44your friends and bands and and live this life that's that's pretty cool yeah and i get to i get
01:49to see you when i go on tour which is fun and um yeah it's great because you know what
01:54it is like
01:54being a comedian it's it's a very solitary existence right it's just me and on the road
02:02with the band you get that brotherhood of go all right we're going city to city you know we're going
02:07to kick kansas city's ass next week we're going to you know um and you get all that but i
02:12get none
02:12of the drama of being in the band because i'm just a comedian you know that's right so when they're
02:17brawling i'm just like yeah i'll see you guys later i'm going to go for a jog that's hysterical you
02:22say
02:22that because i just interviewed jim jeffries a couple weeks ago and i said normally i'm interviewing
02:26rock stars he's like yeah well i've got no one to argue with so you know and uh and it's
02:32the same
02:32type of thing like you just said that's it man it's you you're the band no matter how much you
02:37you love your bandmates you know on the road in those close quarters you know you're basically in
02:42a submarine you know that's it which is what zach calls it you know let's get in the sub um
02:47you know
02:48you know tensions flare you know what happens and especially when you're under pressure man you know
02:52those the road crew guys man they're the unsung heroes i mean they're you know first one's up last
02:57one's to bed so uh yeah it gets a little testy sometimes but that's just part of the gig yeah
03:02i can
03:02imagine so uh terrorizing uh telemarketers aid is out you know um i mean do you guys still get
03:09telemarketer calls or do you guys like how do you sign up for certain things you know they're going
03:13to call how does this work well yeah i mean you know um you know because of technology luckily you
03:20know uh we have the uh the do not call list so everybody's on the do not call list we're
03:25on the
03:26please call list so i think we got the only listed phone number that telemarketers can actually call
03:33now so they all they all call us yeah they recognize the number i think i've called this
03:38number oh that that is 100 true because the same the same like 20 companies call you know and we'll
03:46take a few years between doing these albums um you know and then you know it's actually a home line
03:53and so there'll be like two years will pass and we'll plug the phone in over a gym's house to
03:59the
03:59wall and within 30 seconds the phone will start ringing no kidding wow yeah so um how much is is
04:05has it changed since the first one you did because now it's like you you can put these little skits
04:10on
04:10you know with the animated skits on like the internet and stuff like that and it's not just a cd
04:15vinyl and it's like you know all over the place i mean it must have changed a lot huh
04:20yeah 80 percent of the sales are going to be streaming you know so you know people like you
04:25know prank calls and stuff like that um we have eight volumes of these calls and yeah it's great
04:31because you could just go on your phone and and click and and start streaming them right away um
04:36there's three animations from the new album that are up on all my social media you could check out
04:42so yeah it's a good way to um it's a good way to you know get the word out and
04:46spread it a lot
04:47faster you know we did these dvds uh hidden camera dvds called meet the creeps like in the early
04:532000s and we just sold them on dvd at our gigs but nobody buys dvds anymore so we've been recutting
04:59them and putting them on our social media and on our youtube and and people love them you know you
05:04just you couldn't get that kind of exposure back then so you know it's cool to like kind of recycle
05:09some of our old stuff yeah i guess that's kind of what the point i was getting yeah it's different
05:13now
05:13uh how long does it take you to to make one of these records i suppose it it kind of
05:18it all hinges
05:19on how many calls you get right but i mean is this like a two three four year project what
05:23is it
05:25what are we building spacex i mean it's it's prime calls dude we just and i thought they called you
05:33don't you have to wait for these people to call yeah but they call all the time and the thing
05:37is
05:37when you pick up it registers as a live line and then they all sell that information you know to
05:4510
05:46other telemarketer firms so they all share information that's why we'll get calls a lot
05:51where the telemarketer will come on and say you know is this uh james or don and we're like yeah
05:55and
05:56they're like um yeah it's it looks like in the notes you talk to somebody there was some kind of
06:00problem we're like no we didn't have any problem you know so so you know the old telemarketer leaves a
06:06new one comes in but you know like the song says uh new boss same as the old boss so
06:11how long did
06:12this one take to make this one i mean it took about a year only because you know we like
06:17uh the
06:17first few months we were rusty and we you know we just couldn't you know we just couldn't um quite
06:22get the edge that we wanted and then uh you know you just got to get one and then they
06:27all kind of
06:27fall into place after that but you know we're never in a rush you know it's kind of it is
06:32like being
06:33in a band in that sense too is like i go to jim's house and it's like we're a band
06:37recording in the
06:38studio you know so i go there spend the whole day sometimes we get one call sometimes we get three
06:42or
06:42four yeah and then of course you got your uh your solo uh record coming out comedy is killing me
06:47and obviously i see the uh you know the the album cover behind you it looks reminiscent of
06:53something i can't quite put my finger on it um it's typo negatives least favorite album
07:00but i love this album and i think it's brilliant uh their album's called life is killing me which is
07:05which is such a clever title uh mine is called comedy is killing me and um you know it's my
07:11tribute to them you know i do all my albums as a tribute to the bands that i love saxon
07:15and thin
07:16lizzie and priest so yeah this one's for typo and um i recorded at typo negatives favorite metal bar
07:24in brooklyn so it's got a whole theme to it and at the end i die so for people who
07:29don't like my
07:30comedy they'll be psyched guar comes out or something uh how does this work i've been killed
07:36by guar twice on stage but uh now i go i go into the electric chair at the end of
07:40this one so you get
07:41awesome you get to watch me suffer so how long did it work how long did you work up this
07:45set for this
07:46record it took a couple years you know to really hone the set and um you know i'll be like
07:52every
07:53other band and say it's my best album ever but it really is and i love where i did it
08:00you know
08:00duff's in brooklyn if you've never been man next time you come to east coast i gotta take you man
08:04it is a museum to hard rock and metal the most mellow band on the jukebox is slayer
08:11it's just one of those places the walls and ceilings are just covered with memorabilia and
08:16all kinds of you know glendanzig's jock strap i mean everything in that place and when it's all lit
08:22up it just looks so cool on camera so um i'm just psyched that i did it there and thanks
08:27to typo for
08:28you know letting me use the artwork and all that stuff because uh i was you know that's a big
08:34part of
08:34it for me the packaging right yeah i was going to ask you so did any of these bands ever
08:38push back i mean
08:39you kind of you know the saxon guys and i'm sure you know johnny kelly and those guys you don't
08:43know
08:43to whatnot so they ever push back or they say no go ahead or you got to float them a
08:47few bucks or buy
08:47him a dinner or something what do you got to do um you know maybe i should buy him dinner
08:55um no listen i you know i i asked permission you know and and i've been lucky you know everyone's
09:00said yeah you know my last album was a parody of motorhead no sleep till hammersmith so
09:06you know i got the actual original original artwork that they let me use and i photoshopped
09:13myself onto the cover with lemmy and the boys so no it's been great man um everybody's been super
09:18cool about it you know even you know biff from saxon insisted i do an album and so i did
09:24denim and
09:25laughter so you know um that was a direct request yeah great name for an album by the way you
09:31should
09:31you should take one of the kiss records and and see how that works yeah i got dressed to kill
09:38with
09:38would lend itself to comedy right because if you if you kill and that means you did good so um
09:43you
09:44know i could do something with that i just don't own a suit so i don't know i have to
09:48rent a suit for
09:48the cover that's great so everything comes out on the 18th correct september 18th yeah terrorizing
09:54telemarketers volume eight that's prank calls with me and jim florentine and then my live stand-up
10:00comedy album and special so the audio and video both be out september 18th and uh they're all
10:09available for pre-save or pre-order or whatever the right terminology is as we speak now uh you also
10:16host a podcast called a jockstrap and uh tell me about uh that podcast uh i mean you've done obviously
10:22a lot of the stuff in the past but um you know what what's kind of surprised you about talking
10:26to
10:26these rock stars or you know as as there any is there any challenges with that podcast uh well the
10:32first challenge is getting uh djs from detroit to call it the right name rockstrap oh what did i call
10:38it oh jockstrap my bad i'm sorry yeah well that's not get it because you know it's the jocks okay
10:45my
10:45bad all right this is going to be cut out in post okay go ahead don't you dare um we
10:50we go we go
10:51and raw meltdown come on yeah sorry no it's all good uh jocks right now i'm there you go there
10:57you
10:57go um rockstrap because obviously you know we talk to rockers about their love of music and sports
11:04um and vice versa although we don't get many athletes uh but we've had a few um love to have
11:11mccarty on to talk about you know music and his love of music because i know you know what a
11:16rocker he
11:17is yeah but that you know you get i think it just gives fans and also us a different you
11:24know um side
11:25of their favorite people you know when we had blackie lawless on you know him him telling stories
11:30about you know taking the subway up to yankee stadium with his dad to see mickey mantle play and
11:36and and you just hear it in his voice just like you know how much that meant to him as
11:41a kid you know
11:42that he did that with his dad or you know i mean it could be any kind of memory of
11:48um you know you
11:50know growing up playing sports or you know a lot of people we interview have played sports arenas and
11:56they're friends with with big sports athletes so um that's been fun man you know like i said i think
12:02it gives people another rather than the regular interview you get a little something different
12:07yeah i listened to an episode with blackie and it's funny because it's like sometimes i think
12:11these guys you know they have to talk about their projects and their tours and blah blah blah but when
12:15they get out of their box and they start talking about other things like sports especially if they're
12:19big baseball fans like that you should get getty leon to talk about baseball my god you wouldn't get
12:23him off the line yeah i i don't know i've heard i've it's been buzzing on the internet that he's
12:29a
12:29little busy recently but um have you have you seen any of those shows i know i did i haven't
12:34been
12:34able to get to one but uh i mean it's it's amazing i mean i have not seen one bad
12:40comment so uh god
12:41dude this show is i saw two weeks ago here in detroit it was the best show i've seen all
12:45year
12:45and it's not even close it was unbelievable that's great well yeah obviously when when when and if he
12:51has time after this because who knows what they're going to do if they're going to make more music or
12:55whatever but his home literally is um categorized as a sports museum in canada he has so much
13:05baseball memorabilia in toronto his house is a museum yeah he's got a autographed baseballs there's
13:11a guy here in detroit next time you come into detroit you got some time i want to take you
13:14to this guy's
13:15place he has autographed baseballs but not from sports he's got like an autographed baseball from
13:20all four the original you know all four beatles um you know president stuff like that he's got he's
13:25got this unbelievable collection of wild autographs on baseballs well that and that's tough because
13:31you know you got to carry baseballs around everywhere you go you know so if a band has five members
13:36you gotta yeah i guess you gotta wear cargo shorts everywhere you go yeah i guess he's got a
13:41millions of dollars worth of stuff so what else you want to plug you got a lot of things happening
13:45when are you coming to come back to detroit oh that's a good question um damn uh do i have
13:51anything on the books there um i don't think until next year but no just you know just uh you
13:57know not
13:57just one comedy album meltdown you know oh you could have fancy jim jeffries oh sure he gets he gets
14:04uh
14:04you know in the double digits in audience members at his show you know you maybe even triple
14:12maybe even triple um you know jeff uh jim is phenomenal uh but does he have two comedy albums
14:19at the same time i don't think so i doubt it i highly doubt it so yeah but um yeah
14:25really excited
14:26man you know that it's uh god bless uh in my 50s and uh making prank calls and telling dirty
14:33jokes
14:34on stage for a living god bless america and uh before we before we cut you off here um you
14:39have to tell
14:40everybody about tony's uh truck stop that i took you to and you you were nice enough to buy me
14:45uh
14:45lunch that day but have you ever seen so much bacon in all of your life i did not realize
14:52that was a
14:52thing in michigan that's tony's that you drove all the way up on your motorcycle uh for to just you
15:00didn't even have the bacon we we just went there to look at giant stacks of bacon that's pretty much
15:06what we did that place for people that don't know they they serve you a pound of bacon with
15:11everything and don's eyes were like holy christ look at that because the kids next to us you know
15:16they they were at some hockey tournament or whatever the case wasn't just a stack of bacon like this
15:20it's literally a pound of bacon that's a lot crazy yeah well listen man good luck with the with
15:27the records not one but two uh comedy is killing me and of course terrorizing uh uh terrorizing
15:32telemarketers eights and a good luck with a rock strap and we'll see you here in the motor city
15:37coming up soon say hi to say hi to the motor city madman for me later i will i can't
15:42wait another
15:42guy who couldn't retire i love it man uncle ted we'll see him soon and uh great talking with you
