00:00Driving with your hazard lights on in heavy rain.
00:05Ah, I hate people who do that.
00:06You know that's illegal.
00:07Yeah.
00:07With some of the heavy Florida downpours that we get, people will put their hazard lights on,
00:15but Florida is one of a handful of states where driving in the rain or with low visibility with your hazard lights flashing,
00:24fog, rain, it's illegal in Florida.
00:27But as of July 1st, it is going to be legal to drive in bad weather with your hazard lights on on the interstate or on roads.
00:38Here's the deal.
00:39Beginning July 1st, I saw this in the Tampa Bay Times.
00:42Beginning July 1st, unless Governor DeSantis vetoes this, Florida drivers can use hazard lights on roads with speed limits at or above 55 miles per hour
00:55when the conditions create extremely low visibility.
00:58I actually think I support this.
01:01You should be able to put your hazard lights on in pouring rain.
01:04What?
01:05Are you nuts?
01:06Yes, absolutely.
01:06I think if you're in a bad mood in your car, if you have a fight with your wife in the car,
01:11I think you ought to be able to put your hazard lights on.
01:13I want the rest of the people around me to know that I am pissed at my old lady right now.
01:16Yes, Rox.
01:17Fight lights.
01:18Aren't the people who put their hazard lights on people from up north who don't know how to drive in the rain?
01:24They're afraid.
01:25You know what?
01:25I'm going to task you with an assignment.
01:27Okay.
01:27The next time in really bad weather, when you see somebody with their hazard lights on,
01:32I want you to pull next to them, and I want you to give them the pull over.
01:37Pull.
01:38Pull over.
01:38It is in the rest.
01:39Pull over.
01:40Give them the pull over or give them the roll down the window sign.
01:44In the rain.
01:45Got it.
01:45In the rain.
01:45Torrential.
01:46And I want you to ask them, are you from up north?
01:50Look, you guys are way off base on this.
01:52Listen, if it's raining so bad that you have to slow down to 45 miles an hour,
01:56there's still that guy who thinks it's okay to drive 80,
01:59and he's racing and weaving in and out regardless of what the weather's doing.
02:02So put your hazards on.
02:03Be a little more visible.
02:04In the Tampa Bay Times, it says the law rebuts years of messaging by state traffic officials
02:09who have been telling drivers on social media, on highway signs,
02:13and the news stories not to use your flashers in the rain.
02:19Don't they know best?
02:20If driving in rain is too dangerous, pull off the road, warned the Florida Department of Highway Safety
02:25and Motor Vehicles.
02:26That was in a tweet back in 2015.
02:29Yeah.
02:29Pull over to the side of the interstate in a pouring rainstorm, morons.
02:33Just stay on the dry spot.
02:35For years, the Florida Highway Patrol has warned motorists that using hazard lights while driving is confusing,
02:41that troopers look for the flashing lights to see if a driver needs help,
02:45and that the hazard lights can override the car's turn signals.
02:49I love this.
02:50So in the Tampa Bay Times article, it says this.
02:54For drivers who have trouble finding their car's signaling devices,
02:58the hazard lights are activated by the button with the red triangle,
03:02usually found on the center console.
03:07That's not right.
03:08Thank you, Tampa Bay Times.
03:10Thank you for telling me where the hazard lights are.
03:12How many people don't know where the hazard lights are?
03:14I thought that was the ejection seat.
03:16Well, you know what?
03:16That's a stupid question.
03:17There are people who don't even know how to open up their gas tank.
03:20There are people who don't know how to turn their lights off when they come into work in the morning.
03:23That would be you, Roxanne.
03:24Have you figured that out yet?
03:26Have you figured out that if you just leave it in the A, in the automatic position,
03:32your lights will come on and off?
03:33I got it.
03:34It only took her seven months, but she got it.
03:37This is actually not a bad thing.
03:38I support this law change.
03:41I think you're a weenie if you drive with your hazards on,
03:44and you're afraid of driving the rain.
03:45Just drive, man.
03:47Interestingly, Florida's law was an outlier.
03:49Just 10 states prohibit using hazard lights while driving.
03:54I bet you those other states were some of the highest illiteracy rates in the country.
03:57All right.
03:58So July 1, you can drive in the rain.
04:00If it's really bad visibility, 55 miles an hour and over,
04:03you can use your hazard lights beginning on July 1st.
04:06That's right.
