The Ministry of External Affairs press conference addressed recent developments in India-Pakistan relations. The MEA spokesperson clarified that Pakistan initiated the ceasefire after effective Indian strikes on key Pakistani Air Force bases. He rejected claims of US mediation, stating that the ceasefire was arranged directly between the DGMOs of both countries. The spokesperson reiterated India's stance on bilateral resolution of Kashmir issues and emphasized that India's military action was in response to terrorist attacks.

00:00The Ministry of External Affairs, press conference is set to begin.
00:05I basically talked about a solution on Kashmir, talking about India and Pakistan, your reaction to this.
00:10And secondly, sir, my other question is, on India, Pakistan, ceasefire or understanding,
00:17the conversation between which all countries led to this ceasefire, what was India's view on that, on mediation,
00:23and what did India convey to these countries?
00:26Okay, Jessica.
00:30Hi, sir, this is Jessica Taneja for DD India.
00:34Now that both sides have agreed for stoppage of firing and military action,
00:38what will happen to the Indus Water Treaty?
00:42Because Pakistan has said that stopping of water will be considered as an act of war.
00:46What are your views on this?
00:49Kadambini.
00:49Kadambini Sharma, Independent Journalist.
01:13So, Sidhan, I'm Sidhan from CNN News 18.
01:22Sir, in a reaction to a statement which came from Pakistan's foreign ministry on Prime Minister Modi's speech at the front line Adhanpur airbase.
01:30Okay, let me take these questions and then we'll come back for more.
01:35So, Sidhan, regarding your question.
01:39Your question.
01:42As you are aware, we have a long-standing national position that any issues pertaining to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir
01:51have to be addressed by India and Pakistan bilaterally.
01:56That stated policy has not changed.
01:58As you are aware, the outstanding matter is the vacation of illegally occupied Indian territory by Pakistan.
02:06And people like Panish, I'm a Hindi member of Pakistan.
02:14As you are aware, we have a long-term relationship between Pakistan and Pakistan and Pakistan.
02:15So, our long-term relationship between Pakistan and Pakistan is the same way.
02:19But this 11 year and Pakistan is the same way.
02:25So, we have knowledge of Bhask非lich is a Nation of Statesarium.
02:26So, that's the one liabilities on Afghanistan and Pakistan.
02:27The sales of ISFR started to deal in Pakistan as well.
02:35There is no informação in Pakistan.
02:36That's why you know the opposition results areami.
02:40You had another question regarding ceasefire and what sort of role other countries played, etc.
02:57See, the specific date, time and wording of the understanding was worked out between the DGMOs of the two countries
03:06at their phone call on 10th May 2025, commencing at 15.35 hours.
03:14The Foreign Secretary had made a statement in this regard, as you would be aware.
03:17The request for this call was received by MEA from the Pakistani High Commission at 12.37 hours.
03:27The Pakistani side had initial difficulties connecting the hotline due to...
03:34...connecting to the Indian side due to technical difficulties.
03:40The timing was then decided based on the availability of the Indian DGMO at 15.35 hours.
03:47You will, of course, appreciate that early on 10th morning, we had mounted an extremely effective attack on key Pakistani Air Force bases.
03:59That was the reason they were now willing to stop firing and military action.
04:04Let me be clear.
04:08It was the force of Indian arms that compelled Pakistan to stop its firing.
04:14As regards conversations with other nations, the message from India was clear and consistent.
04:20And exactly the same message that we were conveying from public platforms was the one conveyed in private conversations.
04:31It was that India was responding to the 22nd April terrorist attack by targeting the terrorist infrastructure.
04:40However, if the Pakistani armed forces fire, Indian armed forces will fire back.
04:50If Pakistan stops, India will also stop.
04:54This was also the message that was conveyed to the Pakistani side at the time of the commencement of Operation Sindur,
05:01which was not heeded to by the Pakistani side at that time.
05:07It is natural that many foreign leaders who heard this from us would have shared it with their Pakistani interlocutors.
05:15Jessica, you had a question on IWT.
05:19The other day, you saw that after the CCS decision, this Indus Water Treaty has been put in advance.
05:28I would also like to take you back a little.
05:32The IWT, the Indus Water Treaty, was concluded in the spirit of goodwill and friendship, as specified in the preamble of the treaty.
05:42However, Pakistan has held these principles in advance by its promotion of cross-border terrorism for several decades now.
05:51Now, as per CCS decision that I referred to of 23rd April, India will keep the treaty in advance until Pakistan,
06:02credibly and irrevocably, abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.
06:08Please note, please also note, that climate change, demographic shifts and technological changes have created new realities on ground as well.
06:21And then we had a question regarding trade matters.
06:30From the time of Operation Sindur, commenced on 7th May, till the understanding on cessation of firing and military action on 10th May,
06:44there were conversations between Indian and U.S. leaders on the evolving military situation.
06:55The issue of trade did not come up in any of these discussions.
06:59Siddhant, you had a question on the latest statement issued by the Pakistan Foreign Office.
07:12We have seen the statement made by the Pakistani side,
07:15that a nation which has nurtured terrorism on an industrial scale should think that it can escape the consequences is fooling itself.
07:28The terrorist infrastructure sites that India destroyed were responsible not only for the deaths of Indians,
07:36but of many other innocents around the world.
07:39There is now a new normal.
07:44The sooner Pakistan gets it, the better it is.
07:50Shall we take more questions?
07:51Mr. Jaiswal, I have two quick questions.
08:07One, that some of the Indian diplomats who have given interviews abroad have said that
08:11India has electronic intercepts and gathered intelligence linking to Pahelkam attackers, to the handlers,
08:18and they have been planning more attacks.
08:20So, have you given any kind of this evidence to the foreign attachés and diplomats that were briefed today,
08:27and in the context of ambassadors also that were briefed earlier?
08:31And, yeah, that's about it.
08:36Megha.
08:37Good evening, sir.
08:43Megha from Newsax.
08:45My question is that India, it's being reported, is going to be sending a team to the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.
08:55The meeting is going to be held later in the week,
08:57and the purpose for it is to declare the TRF as a globally designated terrorist organization.
09:05If you could shed more light into this.
09:06Mr. Jaiswal, I have two questions here.
09:19Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishakdar has given an interview to CNN,
09:24and where he has claimed success and suggested that India was keen to have the ceasefire.
09:30Your comments on that.
09:31Also, there is a lot of buzz on social media as well as in various international media about nuclear leakage in Pakistan.
09:40Can you shed some light on that as well?
09:42Manas?
09:53This is Manas from BTI.
09:55So, U.S. President Donald Trump, again, he claimed yesterday that he stopped a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan,
10:03and, you know, he stopped escalation and saved millions of lives through, you know, by reaching out to both capitals.
10:13He even said that, in fact, he pressured India and Pakistan to just come forward for the cessation of hostilities,
10:21saying that if you don't do that, I will stop trade with both the countries.
10:26So, can you please clarify whether he just reached out to us and asked us to stop?
10:32You have been maintaining that, in fact, the resolution was arighted by two DZMOs,
10:38but have you just protested at the U.S. side for making these claims, which we consider our best list?
10:44Okay.
10:45Let me take these questions.
10:47First, Aditya, your question.
10:49You know, we have had several rounds of briefings,
10:52and in these briefings we have also shared with you the kind of linkage we see
10:56between the perpetrators of the attack of Pahlgham,
10:59in particular the resistance front.
11:05Foreign Secretary in his statement also made very clear the kind of evidence that we see.
11:13And investigation is going on in this particular matter.
11:17You would have seen that TRF had taken responsibility,
11:20and then second time again, second day twice they had taken responsibility,
11:25and thereafter, possibly at the behest of their handlers, they rolled it back.
11:29But TRF is one organization which is a front of the Lashkar-e-Taiba,
11:33and you would understand and perhaps be in the knowledge of it
11:38that we have been pursuing listing of TRF in the United Nations,
11:44by the United Nations Security Council, by the Sanctions Committee,
11:48UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.
11:51I'm not privy to what was shared two hours back,
11:57but for sure we'll update you on as to how the investigation progresses in this matter.
12:04Mega on UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.
12:09Yes, over the last two years or so, 23, 24,
12:15we have been sharing information with the United Nations Security Council,
12:19the monitoring team of the Sanctions Committee as to why the terrorist TRF,
12:29which is the front for Lashkar-e-Taiba, should be listed as a terrorist entity.
12:34We will be also, in a few days' time, we will be sharing more details in this regard,
12:39and hopefully, Security Council 1267 monitoring team will take strong note of what we present,
12:48what we file, and take due action against that is required.
12:57Rishabh, on your question regarding the interview that the Park Foreign Minister gave.
13:09In the last week, as a result of Operation Sindur,
13:14Pakistan has seen its terror centers in Mahabalpur,
13:18Murudke, Muzaffarabad, and other places destroyed.
13:24We have been informed of it in several of the briefings that we've had.
13:29Thereafter, its military capabilities were significantly degraded
13:33by us, and key air bases effectively put out of action.
13:38If the Pakistani FM wishes to project these as achievement, obviously, he is welcome to do so.
13:47Where India is concerned, our stand was very clear and consistent from the start.
13:51We would target terrorist infrastructure operating out of Pakistan.
13:59If the Pakistani military stayed out, there would be no problem.
14:03If they fired on us, we would respond suitably.
14:07Till the night of 9th May, Pakistan was threatening India with a massive assault.
14:16Once their attempt failed on 10th May morning,
14:20and they received a devastating Indian counter-response.
14:25Their tune changed, and their DGMO eventually reached out to us.
14:33I just referred to the timings, etc., as to when they reached out.
14:36In essence, India's position remained the same.
14:41Pakistan's position changed on 10th May morning,
14:45after its air bases were effectively put out of action.
14:51All you have to do is to look at who called who
14:54to negotiate the terms of the cessation of firing.
14:59By the way, you know, we are living in a day and age
15:03where you have satellite pictures available commercially.
15:10I urge you to look at the satellite pictures of the sites
15:14which Pakistan says or claims to have attacked in India.
15:20Contrast it with the sites and places which we successfully targeted and destroyed.
15:27But that will give you a clear answer.
15:29You know, claiming victory is an old habit.
15:32After 1975, this happened.
15:35This happened.
15:37In 1999, the Khargil Ball was the same.
15:40The result of Pakistan's existence of their roots,
15:43it's the root of their roots.
15:45The root of the roots, the root of the roots are also roots.
15:48Go to the root of the roots, but the root of the roots.
15:51Rishabh, you also had a question regarding
15:58on that
16:04I think
16:05I think
16:14there is some
16:15there are two, three things there
16:19you know, there's talk of some
16:21we saw some social media post about
16:23Egyptian, American
16:25aircraft, etc
16:27but those questions are for them to answer
16:30not for us
16:30but on the nuclear
16:32in the defense briefing
16:35if you remember, our side made things
16:37very clear as to
16:39what was the target, etc
16:41as far as your particular question
16:43I think the Park Foreign Minister
16:45also has made some comments
16:47on that
16:48Manas
16:51about
16:57nuclear issue that you pointed out
17:01see the military action
17:04from our side was entirely
17:06in the conventional domain
17:07this was also made very clear
17:09in the defense briefing yesterday
17:12there were some questions also
17:13which were asked
17:14there were some reports however
17:16that Pakistan National Command Authority
17:19will meet on 10th May
17:21which we saw
17:21but this was later denied by them
17:24Pakistan
17:25has himself denied the nuclear angle on record
17:30so Rishabh that also answers your question
17:32as you know India has a firm stance that will
17:35that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail
17:39or allow crossword terrorism to be conducted
17:42invoking it
17:43in conversations with various countries
17:46we have also cautioned
17:48that their
17:49subscribing to such scenarios
17:51could hurt them
17:52in their own region
17:53can we take more questions
17:59okay
18:01good evening sir
18:13good evening sir
18:13good evening sir
18:13from Sputnik sir
18:14just a clarification
18:15thank you
18:17that India and Pakistan
18:19had agreed to ceasefire
18:20as well as start
18:21talks on a broad range of issues
18:23at a neutral site
18:24so would it be possible
18:25to get a clarification on this
18:26if we agreed to that
18:27and sir
18:28the second question
18:29is about India-US trade talks
18:31India has formally notified
18:33the WTO proposing
18:35retaliatory tariffs
18:36against select US imports
18:38over Washington's tariffs
18:40on steel and aluminium imports
18:42would it be possible
18:42to get a clarification on this
18:44and does it affect
18:45India's negotiating position
18:47vis-a-vis the bilateral trade agreement
18:49thank you
18:49okay
18:53Smita
18:54Smita Sharma here
18:56I mean you know
18:57the US State Department
18:58actually in the press statement
19:00of 10th May
19:00it was in bold
19:01and headline
19:02that mentioned
19:03US brokered ceasefire
19:04between India and Pakistan
19:05I am just trying to understand
19:07if New Delhi
19:07actually rejected it outrightly
19:09raise it with Washington DC
19:11then
19:11that this framing
19:12was incorrect
19:13or is it only now
19:15that India is making it clear
19:17that there was no US role in it
19:19and just a quick question
19:20on whether there is any update
19:22on P.K. Sahu
19:23the BSF constable
19:24who has been in Pakistan
19:25captivity for more than 20 days now
19:27or he has been arrested there
19:28because he inadvertently crossed
19:29Swazri
19:32Mr. Jaiswal
19:35this is Sahasni Heather
19:36from the Hindu
19:37in continuation to Smita's question
19:40about whether India
19:41has raised with the US
19:43these are clearly
19:44what you are calling
19:45false statements
19:46made by US President
19:48Donald Trump
19:48that India did not broker
19:50the US did not broker
19:52a ceasefire
19:52that trade was not discussed
19:54these are all things
19:55that have been said now
19:55on the record
19:56in camera
19:58so have you raised this
19:59at any level
20:00and similarly
20:02yesterday
20:03at the MOD briefing
20:04we heard them speak
20:06about
20:07the Chinese
20:08equipment
20:08hardware
20:09support
20:10to Pakistan
20:12I wanted to ask
20:14if this is something
20:15that is going to be
20:16taken up with China
20:17in terms of
20:19India and China's
20:20own bilateral relationship
20:21so both of them
20:23are these
20:23two things
20:24going to have any impact
20:25on India's relations
20:26with either the US
20:27or China
20:27Serg
20:47in
20:48foreign
21:16Okay. Dher, first regarding your question about Secretary Rubio's comments, on that I've already spoken.
21:26I've told you how the understanding between India and Pakistan was biologically reached
21:33and what was the conversation that we had with other countries.
21:38On trade matters, I do understand that there is a proposal which has been made in Geneva.
21:43It has been made very recently, so I don't have further details on that.
21:48But for sure, we'll update you with the matter as we progress with those negotiations.
21:59Smita, again, I've already answered those questions of yours when I talked about the question of ceasefire
22:06as to who decided, what were the terms, when it happened, etc.
22:10So I would urge you to look at those comments of mine.
22:16I already have told you that we have conveyed our position.
22:19I conveyed our position here on record, so I will request you to look at that.
22:25On the matter of P.K. Sahu, I don't have an update, so possibly we'll get you an update.
22:30But these are matters which pertain to the Ministry of Defence, and they're looking into it.
22:35Again, Suhasini, on ceasefire, I've made India's position very clear, where we stand.
22:43So I would urge you to look at my comments.
22:47On the other question that you had, and possibly it had come up in the conversation of the press conference yesterday,
22:54there, we have, I would say that we have obviously taken note of this.
23:02I direct your attention to the comments in the Defence briefing
23:05about the extent of their effectiveness or otherwise.
23:10Thank you very much.
23:40The ban on the Avami League without due process is a concerning development.
23:46As a democracy, India is naturally concerned at containment of democratic freedoms and shrinking political space.
23:58We strongly support the early holding of free, fair and inclusive elections in Bangladesh.
24:05Live briefing there by the MEA spokesperson.
24:27Several big takeaways where clearly he's mentioned as far as the question over America's role is concerned.
24:34He said there was no mention of trade with America, and clearly ceasefire happened because Pakistan initiated it.
24:40He's reiterated India's stand that there is no question of a third-party intervention on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
