00:00Hello brothers and sisters, welcome. Let's begin our session for today. Now
00:19Let us consider the charisms within the context of their application. All charisms are an expression
00:27of the power of God's grace in the spirit. An obstacle to the fullness of grace.
00:34The limited availability of charisms in a Christian community is the limited availability to manifestations
00:41of the spirit and that can profoundly affect life and its experience. It can affect
00:50their public Eucharistic worship, the private prayer of their members, the way they proclaim
00:59the gospel and serving the world. If a community places limits on the manifestations of the Spirit,
01:08Certainly, the overall life of that local church is impoverished. Based on what is written in
01:17In the letter to the Romans, in chapter 12, verses 6 through 8, we see the following enumeration
01:24of gifts. Gift of prophecy, ministry to serve, charism of teaching, charism of exhortation,
01:36charism of giving with simplicity, charism of leadership, charism of mercy. In the first letter to the
01:47In Corinthians we see this first enumeration: word of wisdom, word of knowledge, discernment
01:56of spirits, faith as a charism, gift of healing, gift of miracles, gift of tongues, gift of interpretation
02:09of tongues. And also this other enumeration of charisms, apostles, prophets, teachers,
02:22miracles, gift of healing, of assistance, of governance, diversity of languages.
02:31And in the letter to the Ephesians, the apostle expresses only the following charisms: apostles, prophets,
02:43Evangelists, pastors, and teachers. So that we may reach the following great goals for
02:54the building up of the body of Christ, so that we may all reach unity in the faith and
02:59from the knowledge of the Son of God, to the state of perfect man, to the full maturity of Christ.
03:09Let's begin with the gift of prophecy. What is the gift of prophecy? It's one of the means that
03:16The means God uses to speak to us, his children, is prophecy. The prophet is the one who
03:24who speaks in the name of God. He is God's messenger who speaks at His command. Through
03:32From the prophet, the Lord can correct him, warn him, show him the punishments that his bad behavior brings.
03:41conduct, to announce forgiveness to him, to point out new paths to him. In a word, through the prophet,
03:52The Lord communicates to his people what they need in various circumstances and situations
04:00wherever we find ourselves. For this reason, we should greatly appreciate the gift of prophecy and ask it for help.
04:09to the Lord to communicate this to many people in his church. Saint Paul writes to the Corinthians,
04:19Strive to attain charity. Aspire to spiritual gifts, especially prophecy,
04:29For the one who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation, and consolation.
04:37And at the end of this chapter, he says again, "So my brothers, aspire to the gift of prophecy."
04:49What does it mean to be a prophet? It is the person, man or woman, through whom the spirit speaks.
04:59This is the person who receives a special calling to be at the service of infinite truth.
05:08and faithfully convey what God wants to communicate to others through his lips.
05:17Speak in the name of God.
05:18The message that the spirit transmits through the prophet has many forms and covers many aspects.
05:30Sometimes he corrects and admonishes, other times he encourages and comforts.
05:38He often threatens punishments to those who do not want to remain faithful.
05:43Others announce forgiveness and the cessation of punishments.
05:49It invites love.
05:52Correct the mistakes.
05:55It highlights the demands and empowers the prophet to make the necessary denunciations.
06:02without fear of persecution, even death.
06:06The prophet must be humble, devoted to prayer, and of great faithfulness so as not to adulterate God's message.
06:20Jesus is the prophet.
06:23He is the word incarnate, the teacher, the way, the truth, and the life.
06:29He received the fullness of the message and transmitted it with absolute faithfulness,
06:38with unsurpassed courage and with infinite love and power.
06:44He is the prophet par excellence.
06:48He is the eschatological prophet, the last one, unsurpassed in a later history of salvation and revelation.
06:57And in that sense, the prophet simply.
07:03This prophetic charism is in the church at the service of faithfulness,
07:10of the conversion and the update that is always necessary,
07:15but to a greater degree at certain times.
07:18True prophecy and false prophecy,
07:24an appropriate means of distinguishing true prophecy from false prophecy,
07:29It is the positive or negative effect it produces on those who listen to it.
07:35Let us always follow the wise rule of Saint Paul.
07:40Do not despise prophecies.
07:44Try everything and keep the good stuff.
07:471 Thessalonians 5:20
07:50There is a different performance, but with the same purpose of the stable gift of prophecy and the word of prophecy.
08:01We must appreciate the charisma of prophecy in its specific dimension.
08:07This is a prompting of the Holy Spirit at a specific time for a specific group.
08:16It is usually manifested in prayer meetings, in homilies, in prayer assemblies,
08:24in moments of intimacy with our God.
08:27In a message, in an interpretation of the signs of the times, and in acting accordingly.
08:35And it is directed to the same community, the local church, or it may have a wider reach.
08:43With due discernment, but at the same time with openness to him and to the spirit.
08:50To announce or denounce the kingdom or the absence of the kingdom in the concrete lives of those who receive this word of prophecy.
09:03On the other hand, there is prophecy as a stable gift.
09:08It is even offered to men as a lifestyle.
09:14And always not desired by the prophet.
09:16It is the zeal that the prophet Elijah felt.
09:22Let us look and remember in 1 Kings 19, verses 9-10.
09:28He went into the cave and spent the night there.
09:33Yahweh spoke to him.
09:35He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elias?"
09:39He replied,
09:41I burn with zeal for Yahweh, God of Sabaoth.
09:45Because the Israelites have abandoned your covenant.
09:50They have torn down your altars and put your prophets to the sword.
09:57It is the total disposition and openness to the will of God of the prophet Jeremiah.
10:04And the price of persecution he suffered for proclaiming the message of Yahweh.
10:10In Jeremiah 18:18.
10:15We heard the following.
10:17Then they said,
10:19We're going to plot something against Jeremiah,
10:22because the priest will not lack the law,
10:26the advice to the wise man,
10:28nor the word to the prophet.
10:30Let's slander him and ignore his words.
10:34In Jeremiah 20, verses 1-4,
10:38We also see the following.
10:40The priest Pazhur, son of Ymer,
10:43who was an inspector, chief of the house of Yahweh,
10:47He heard Jeremiah prophesy those words.
10:50Pazhur had the prophet Jeremiah beaten up
10:54and ordered him to be put in the dungeon at Benjamin's high gate,
10:59the one that is in the temple of Yahweh.
11:02The next day,
11:03Pazhur got Jeremiah out of the dungeon.
11:07Jeremiah said to him,
11:08Pazhur is not the name that Yahweh has given you,
11:11but terror all around,
11:13because this is what Yahweh says,
11:15I'm going to turn you into a terror to yourself
11:18And for all your loved ones,
11:20who will fall by the sword of their enemies
11:24And your eyes will bear witness.
11:28It is the clarity of the message of John the Baptist.
11:32An example of this can be seen in the Gospel of Mark,
11:36in chapter 6, from verse 17 to 20.
11:40We are talking about the death of John the Baptist.
11:43Herod had ordered John to be arrested.
11:46and had chained him in prison because of Herodias,
11:50his brother Philip's wife,
11:52whom Herod had married.
11:55For John was saying to Herod,
11:57You are not allowed to have your brother's wife.
12:01Herodias hated him and wanted to kill him.
12:04But I couldn't.
12:05For Herod feared John,
12:07I knew he was a just and holy man,
12:10and protected him.
12:12When I heard him speak,
12:13He was very perplexed and listened to him with pleasure.
12:16In them it was not an ephemeral or fleeting gift,
12:23but rather he brought the stable mission given by God.
12:26to signal,
12:28sign and reference for his contemporaries.
12:32But also for us,
12:34that we read the word of God,
12:37It is the prophet speaking to us again.
12:39I want to make a special mention
12:44to a prophet of our time.
12:47I am referring to Pope Paul VI.
12:50In the encyclical Humane Vite,
12:53It is the best-known encyclical of his papacy
12:55on birth rate
12:57in the midst of a familiar context
13:01like the sexual revolution
13:03during the 1960s,
13:04in which the use spread
13:07of the contraceptive pill,
13:10Paul VI established the position of the church
13:13regarding this matter, which he has maintained ever since.
13:18According to Adrián Martínez,
13:20Those who wanted to were vetoed
13:22that the church should support the use of contraceptives.
13:27In the words of this historian,
13:29The encyclical caused him more conflicts.
13:33inside the church that was outside.
13:36Karol Wojtyla,
13:38then Archbishop of Krakow,
13:41He even went so far as to say that Paul VI
13:43It was a sign of contradiction
13:45in reference to this matter
13:48and supporting the official position of the church
13:51despite the numerous members
13:53who advised the opposite.
13:57Among his main messages to men
14:00The following are the ones.
14:01Life does not belong to man.
14:05It surpasses her because it has been received from God.
14:09It is sacred.
14:11No man can dispose of her as he pleases.
14:16Another beautiful phrase.
14:18Never again war.
14:22Never again one against the other
14:24or one on top of the other.
14:28But for each other,
14:31with each other.
14:33But this pope wasn't just about phrases,
14:37but he was convinced
14:39which was best for the church,
14:42despite the lack of understanding of many
14:44and he expressed it in concrete actions
14:48which he performed while driving
14:50from Peter's boat.
14:52His preaching about the devil
14:56It was also the subject of criticism,
14:58but he expressed his existence with great clarity
15:01and revealed who he is.
15:04Let's listen to what he said at the general audience
15:07of November 15, 1972.
15:11What are the greatest needs of the church today?
15:17Don't let it sound simplistic to you
15:19or just as superstitious and unreal
15:23our response.
15:25One of the greatest needs
15:27It is the defense of that evil
15:30that we call demon.
15:33Evil is not merely a deficiency,
15:36but efficiency.
15:38A living, spiritual being,
15:42pervert and perverter.
15:45Terrible reality,
15:47mysterious and terrifying.
15:50It goes out of frame
15:52of biblical and ecclesiastical teaching
15:55who refuses to acknowledge its existence,
16:00or whoever plays the part
16:02a principle that exists on its own
16:05and that it does not have, like any other creature
16:09its origin in God.
16:12Or,
16:13He explains it as a pseudo-reality,
16:16a conceptual personification
16:19and fantastic
16:21of unknown causes
16:23of our misfortunes.
16:25The problem of evil
16:27seen in its complexity
16:29and in its absurdity
16:31regarding our rationality
16:33unilateral
16:35It becomes obsessive.
16:38It constitutes
16:38the greatest difficulty
16:40for our understanding
16:42religious of the cosmos.
16:45Not without reason
16:47She suffered because of it.
16:48for years Saint Augustine.
16:52He said,
16:54I was looking
16:55where did the evil come from?
16:57and I couldn't find it
16:59explanation.
