06:32Even the Minto Bridge that was often a point of controversy for the Delhi governments before
06:38has been cleared off by the newly formed BJP government in Delhi
06:42and remains to be seen whether the rain actually ends up exposing more of the civic problems
06:49that the Delhi government is now on a steadfast path to solve for the citizens of Delhi.

09:47of national capital. Delhi connects
09:49different paths, not just of Delhi
09:51but other enjoying cities as well.
09:53Look at the waterlogging here.
09:55It's risking the life of people
09:57as much. But the focus
09:59clearly yesterday evening was
10:00Gurugram. Not the first time for the city
10:03in Haryana, but the kind of visuals
10:05that have been coming in from different areas.
10:07Regular complaints
10:08by the residents as well.
10:11Some of these areas, remember,
10:12have the most expensive real estate.
10:15And yet, the roads outside, look at that.
10:18A couple has to walk through a knee-deep water.
10:21You just don't know if there's an open
10:23pothole around you.
10:25What are the politicians, the bureaucrats
10:27are doing about it?
10:29We are paying heavy taxes.
10:30We are ensuring to be good citizens.
10:33And yet, this is what we are getting
10:35in return. Something to think about.
10:38But if you go out,
10:39you face this.
10:40You think you're safe inside.
10:43And then this morning,
10:44strong earthquake tremors
10:46were felt one and all
10:47by people in Delhi NCR.
10:49The tremors hit at 9am,
10:51specifically, lasted barely
10:52for about a few seconds.
10:54According to the National Centre
10:55for Seismology,
10:57it was 4.4 magnitude earthquake
10:59that hit Haryana's Jajjar.
11:01And because the epicentre
11:02was so close,
11:03that was the reason that
11:04parts of Delhi NCR,
11:05despite 4.4 on the Richter scale,
11:07managed to feel strong tremors.
11:08It's part of the NCR region,
11:10located nearly 60 kilometers
11:11from Delhi.
11:13Now, why again?
11:14If you would have noticed,
11:15and if you're a resident of Delhi,
11:16in the past few years,
11:17we've faced tremors regularly.
11:21And the reason is,
11:22Delhi is prone to earthquakes
11:23and falls in zone 4
11:24of the seismic active zone
11:26of the country.
11:27It's the second highest zone.
11:29Now, this was a shallow quake,
11:30so to say,
11:31did not cause any damage.
11:32Thankfully,
11:33we have not had any reports
11:34of casualties as well.
11:35But Delhi has not recorded
11:37an earthquake,
11:38even though above magnitude 5
11:39in the last 10 years.
11:41And thank God for that.
11:42But it reminds us
11:44the risk that is here involved.
11:46Some of the visuals

11:50I was feeling
12:20so of course i do not intend to sound alarming at all but it's important to understand that even a
12:474.4 on the richter scale managed to feel as such a strong tremor the reason is the national capital
12:52delhi and the ncr region are prone to earthquakes and because it falls in the seismic zone 4. this
12:57is the fourth highest risk category what does it mean it's near active fault lines like delhi
13:04muradabad delhi haridwar fault systems as that is called it's also in collision zone of the indian
13:11and eurasian plates it's a high tectonic stress that is felt and that is why there have been
13:17some of these tremors that we have felt even though not a massive earthquake look at the yamuna flood
13:22plains it's the soft soil that sometimes according to experts amplifies tremors as well raising a
13:29structural risk and therefore urban development will also as much have to be very cautious
13:35especially in delhi ncr region you must know about not just delhi but what are these earthquake zones
13:41across india and that's why we have prepared this graphic for you there's a zone 2 which is called a
13:45low risk area what are the states in these are zone 2 karnataka tamil nad kerala and madhya pradesh as
13:52well then comes in a zone 3 moderate risk mumbai pune states like andhra pradesh and udisha then comes
14:00in a zone 4 these are high risk this is where delhi jammu and kashmir which has also faced massive
14:07earthquakes in the past panjab as well uttar pradesh and bihar come in that plate and then there is zone 5 this
14:15is called very high risk areas you must have guessed it assam nagaland manipur arunachal pradesh
14:22the northeastern belt but also gujarat specifically gujarat's kach and there was reason when we saw the
14:28earthquake in bhuj and the kind of impact that it had so be cautious be safe of course there are
14:35constant drills that are being done as well but it's important to understand the belt in which india comes
14:40in but amid all of this remember like we talk about double whammy i just want to take you back
14:46to the issue of civic infrastructure not natural disasters but when it comes to for example the rain
14:52mayhem the water logging a delhi resident is known to pay about 40 000 crore rupees in total to the
15:01government what is happening then to our tax when it comes to civic infrastructure and development if
15:07income tax is about 47 000 crore rupees and i'm quoting from the 22 23 data so that was when arvind
15:13kejriwal government was in place nevertheless to help us understand the numbers property tax around
15:182 000 crore rupees this was uh financial year 23 24 there's a motor vehicle tax about 2 000 crore rupees
15:26this was financial year 24 25 as of february so we have tried to bring out data as much as possible
15:32which was the latest unconfirmed then comes in gst and vat in total everything about 40 000 crore rupees
15:39consumers and businesses considering it's delhi and ncr cosmopolitan business tech hubs again about 40
15:47000 crore rupees i'm quoting for 2025 24 data this is the latest that i am trying to bring to the viewer

16:26after the morbi bridge collapse then this collapse happens of the bridge in badodara and in 24 hours 16
16:33lives lost including children amid allegations of negligence india today traveled across the street
16:39tracking the status update of the bridges we found alarming situations surat to amreli bridges have fallen
16:47in disrepair in surat look at that that's what our colleagues found the bridge over the taapi river is
16:53severely damaged a seven foot wide iron plate was installed for years as a temporary fix thousands of
17:00vehicles including heavy vehicles cross daily on this bridge but the plate bounces causing fear and
17:06sometimes accident as well what are the experts saying about it now despite the complaints national
17:11highway authority hasn't made a permanent repair that should come in as well even gujarat's education
17:16minister visited a month ago the iron plate we were told was replaced but much more needs to be done
17:22and there are residents who fear if an accident is imminent across the amreli belt as well the reality

17:34traffic still that is allowed on this it's dilapidated look at the situation the condition of the bridge
17:40drivers fear if the vibrations increase more than usual it may collapse india today recorded broken railings
17:49makeshift bars on the bridge this is basic public infrastructure that the administration of gujarat
17:55needs to look at this bridge

20:27And can we afford to really have another bridge collapse in a country that's trying to become a world power?
20:34Let me now take you from Gujarat to Jammu Kashmir.
20:39What has unfolded in Jammu Kashmir in the past few days is very interesting.
20:43One of the big hill stations or tourist destinations is climate change impacting our hill regions too.
20:50Kashmir Valley is reporting a heat wave and how this time?
20:53At this year's Amarnath Yatra, which began on the 3rd of July under tied security arrangements,
20:58devotees are reporting that shivling appears to be smaller than ever in 2025.
21:02Is global warming to blame or something else?
21:05The naturally formed ice shivling of Baba Barfani, an iconic symbol of Lord Shiva,
21:10appears to be melting faster than ever before.
21:12India Today's reporter, my colleague Jitendra Bahadur Singh, is currently on the yatra.
21:17He undertook the yatra with the first batch of pilgrims and noticed a comparison, a stark contrast,
21:22compared to previous visits in 2018 and 2022.
21:25Back then the shivling stood tall at nearly 12 to 15 feet.
21:29This year, he says only about one and a half to two foot formation was visible
21:34and that appeared to start to melt already to a certain extent.
21:38Now there is intense heat even in Kashmir Valley, where people actually throng because it is a cold station.
21:45Particularly around Srinagar, where the situation appears to be worsening with the melting of snow and ice.
21:51Dust clouds have been reported from the yatra.
21:53According to weather experts and local officials, rising temperature, lack of snowfall in recent years
21:59have significantly reduced ice retention across the years.
22:02Nevertheless, amid all of this, remember, because the cave of course still stands, the shivling still stands,
22:07the excitement and enthusiasm for the pilgrims is still high.
22:11Batches of pilgrims with the chanting of Harar Mahadev and Bambam Bhole are heading and are on the trek toward the Amarnath Key.
22:19And our colleagues on the ground constantly putting out these reports as well and will give you updates as well.
22:27Now moving on from that to the state of Bihar.
22:31It is a major relief for the election commission from the Supreme Court.
22:34The revision of the electoral rolls will continue after the top court did not give any stay in the matter.
22:40That's the big news that's coming in from the court.
22:42The court urged the poll body to consider Aadhaar and voter ID as a valid document.
22:47But the top court asked the election panel to inform people for the reason of removing their names from the electoral roll.
22:54This is important.
22:55The court also told the election body it does not have the right to decide the citizenship of people
23:00and should not enter the domain of home ministry.
23:04The court has questioned if the process could be completed within three months,
23:08those whose names are being excluded will be given a chance for hearing.
23:12The poll body has assured none of the names would be removed without proper reasoning.
23:16During the proceeding, the Supreme Court acknowledged that there was practicality behind the move
23:21but at the same time questioned the timing of the decision considering elections are approaching.
23:26Even the petitioner have urged the election commission to include even Russian card as a ballot proof
23:31and that it should be considered.
23:33After listening to both parties, the Supreme Court has a notice of the election commission.
23:39It will be the next 28th July.
23:42And it was the third unit of the July ma
23:52and that is the option.
23:55So remember there's been a concern because in Bihar there was this exercise that already
24:18became a political showdown, especially electoral roles that need to be possibly revised.
24:24How will the court intervene on this?
24:26And right now there hasn't been a clear order, but what did the court hear today in the afternoon
24:31and what did the court say?
24:33India Today's legal correspondent Anisha Mathur joins me.
24:36Anisha, let's take three key takeaways of what the top court said because eventually it
24:41will be about, can Aadhaar be our top identity card when it comes to whether citizenship or
24:47any document you're on?
24:48Well, see Pooja, if you look at the key takeaways from today's hearing, these are specific to
24:56the SIR exercise itself.
24:58First, that can the election commission go into the question of citizenship when it comes
25:04to voter verification?
25:04Second, can this entire exercise be delinked from the upcoming Bihar election, especially
25:12since the timeline that is required to give a due process, ensure hearing, ensure objections,
25:20ensure that the paperwork and any, if somebody is disenfranchised, then they have their appeal
25:28process.
25:28All of that has been questioned by the court.
25:32Thirdly, what the issue has come up is of what exactly is proof of identity and proof
25:38of citizenship and residence in India.
25:41The Supreme Court, in fact, made a very pointed comment that most people in this country may
25:46not have birth records or matriculation certificates.
25:50In fact, one of the judges pointed out that I'm not sure if I have my birth certificate either.
25:54So, the question really comes in is when we are talking about verification, when we are
25:59talking about since the EC's initial argument and the initial notification said that they're
26:05trying to ensure that illegal immigrants, foreign illegal immigrants are not included illegally
26:12in the voter list.
26:15What exactly constitutes citizenship, residence and identity?
26:19The court, in fact, pointing out that most of the documents in your 11 document list are
26:23not, in fact, proof of identity or proof of citizenship.
26:28They're simply proof of residence, such as a property paper or a rental agreement, etc.
26:35So, court is asking these very pointed questions about how do you define citizenship and identity
26:40in the country?
26:41When Aadhaar is a proof of identity, particularly with biometrics and connected to multiple government
26:47schemes and access to schemes, then how exactly are you saying that we will not accept it in
26:53this voter verification?
26:55Additionally, court asking why not include ration card and voter card, both of which are documents
27:01issued by the government after verification.
27:04Why aren't those being used for this SIR process?
27:08A lot of questions have been asked effectively by the court today, Pooja, and we'll have to
27:13wait and see on the 28th.
27:15Once the ECI responds to all of these questions about its powers, about its timeline, about its
27:21process, about protecting the right to vote, about protecting citizens and people of the
27:27country, we'll see how this goes forward.
27:29But for now, the SIR exercise will continue.
27:31However, as the court did say, that we can issue a stay on the publication of these voter
27:40rolls.
27:41Anisha, tell me also about, let's talk about the hearing.
27:43What did the side say?
27:45How, when the hearing was on, what was really the defense about it?
27:50And why is it that there is opposition to it?
27:53See, if you look at, see, we had a reasonably long hearing, almost two and a half hour long
27:59hearing, but a lot of it was taken up by the petitioner side and the questions that were
28:04asked by the Supreme Court.
28:05If you look at what the EC has said, EC is saying, we have no intent to delete voters.
28:11We have no intent to deprive people of their right to vote, but we are looking into an exercise
28:15of verification to ensure that everybody who has a right to be on it is there and anybody
28:21who should not be, whose names should be deleted, persons who have died, persons who
28:26are not eligible, are removed.
28:28ECI also saying that Aadhaar is only proof of identity, not a proof of citizenship.
28:34Thirdly, what the ECI is saying is that, well, this is an exercise of voter roll revision,
28:39which is well within the power of the election commission as a constitutional authority.
28:44On the other side, of course, the court saying that, well, we accept and we appreciate what
28:49the ECI is trying to do.
28:51We understand the ECI's roles and powers under the constitution as the authority.
28:56However, we are questioning why you are going into citizenship, what process you are following
29:03and particularly since the petitioners have said that the documentation that the ECI is
29:09asking for, these 11 documents that the ECI is asking for are documents that are not within
29:14the rules that are prescribed under the representation of the People Act.
29:18I understand, there are many layers coming to it, whether ECI can really take the call
29:23on the citizenship issue one and importantly, Aadhaar, remember for many of us, is that prime
29:28document, but is that the document to define citizenship, especially when Bihar is facing
29:32upcoming elections and is this as much about citizenship or about illegal infiltration as
29:39well that's happening in the country.
29:41Several layers here that will be analysed by the court.

29:44It's a developing story.
29:45I'll keep coming back to you.
29:47Let me now take you to the top story coming in from Maharashtra.
29:50The sitting Sena MLA Sanjay Gayakwad, when asked by India today about his behaviour, if
29:56he wants to put out an apology, even a clarification and why shouldn't action be taken against him,
30:01added in fact a shameful, divisive twist.
30:05Instead of apologising, he says only Marathi speaking or Marathi contractors should be given
30:11these tenders and that he's against South Indians for some reason.
30:16Let's listen to what happened.
30:17He didn't think twice before slapping a defenceless canteen staff member, even knocking him
30:33down to the ground.
30:34And now, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Gayakwad has decided to take his hateful bigotry a step further.
30:47The same MLA who assaulted a canteen contractor after allegedly being served stale food is now
30:55shaming the contractor for being from the southern part of India.
30:59accusing someone of poor service is one thing, but Gaikwad is now insulting an entire region
31:18of our country.
31:48His remarks have triggered massive outrage, but ironically, it's the canteen contractor
31:55who's paying a heavy price.
31:58The Maharashtra government has now suspended the canteen licence.
32:03While the government has condemned the act, it has remained silent if any direct action will
32:09be taken against the MLA.
32:11The opposition continues to mount pressure on the Devendra Fadnav's government to arrest the
32:18MLA.

33:48Over 24 hours, there's been no action taken against the MLA for the assault, which means
33:54for slapping, thrashing, beating him, all of this caught on camera.
33:59He's been defied.
33:59And he has in fact said to India today, we'll hit again if needed.
34:04We'll set a bigger example if needed.
34:07Give canteen contract to a Marathi.
34:09And you'd be surprised to know there appears to have been some action that is taken against
34:14the contractor, against the canteen, not with regard to the MLA.
34:19Political clout, if nothing else.

34:24Divyesh, tell us specifically about what Sanjay Gaikwad is now saying.
34:28What is the reason of his defiance?
34:30Because I'm generally surprised the manner in which he's made a comment about a certain
34:34group that's running dance bars and only Marathi contractors should get all the tenders.
34:42Well, yes, Sanjay Gaikwad has again started controversy as he made statements regarding a particular
34:48community from the country who run hotels and restaurants in Mumbai.
34:54Mostly the restaurants and hotel bars are run by a particular community from the country.
35:03And these people, now Sanjay Gaikwad has made controversial statements stating that people
35:09from this community do not cook good food.
35:12And that is why he targeted this particular community.
35:15Sanjay Gaikwad again goes on to bring out the Marathi issue over the state, said that the
35:21contract for running these canteens and restaurants should be given to a Marathi manus.
35:28There's been action against the contractors.
35:31There are 16 samples taken from the canteen of the MLA hostel by the Food and Drug Administration
35:39after the video of Sanjay Gaikwad went viral, where he's seen punching and slapping a canteen
35:48employee over allegations that the dal that he's been served there before yesterday night
35:55was stained.
35:57And that is why he and his accomplices, Sanjay Gaikwad and his accomplices, slapped and punched
36:02the canteen employee.
36:04So, there's been no police complaints besides speaking to my colleague Vidya, speaking to
36:09the canteen employees.
36:11And they said that they haven't filed any complaints.
36:15But some of the employees also said that this place always sees some or the other controversy.
36:21There's been this canteen.
36:22I'm willing to take that point.
36:24That there could be genuine issues of food safety, food regulation, adulteration, not
36:29being served good food.
36:30And yet, can a sitting MLA go on a thrashing spree?
36:33Divyesh, I have this question.

36:36I understand Devendra Fadnavez did as a CM.
36:39But neither with the MNS carder that went on a slapping spree, neither did this MLA have
36:43faced any action.
36:44And I wonder if that's because of upcoming elections, politics, political clout.

36:57a Suomoto case.
36:59There's a video which is in public domain.
37:01But there hasn't been a case registered against Sanjay Gakwar.

37:32The concern here is, will other MLAs, other leaders, someone who's simply a member or a worker
37:39of a political outfit, could take inspiration from this behavior and go around punching.
37:45And we're talking about a city like Mumbai, which is one of the biggest cosmopolitan cities

40:21played a key role in reshoring, manufacturing to the US and to India recently as well.

40:39A huge moment and perhaps a reminder that Sabi Khan joins a growing league

42:38definitely marks a historic moment for Indian origin talent in the global tech industry.
42:44Remember, under Sabi Khan,
42:46what we will expect is that Apple will strengthen its supply chain resilience
42:50with India as well.
42:52Remember, you know, in the last couple of years,
42:54Apple has been cozying up to India,
42:57launching two flagship stores here,
42:59you know, also raising the number of sales of India-made Apple phones from here.
43:05And this could just be something that India would also want to see
43:09as to how Apple will further India as a plus one from China
43:17or create more opportunities that we can expect.
43:20It's incredible to say the least and wishing him success.
43:23And it's come, I'm sure, after a lot of hard work
43:25under inspiration to not just Indian Americans,
43:29but young Indians as well,
43:31who plan to have possibly explore better shores,
43:34whether in India or abroad.
43:35So Sabi Khan is now the CEO when it comes to Apple.
43:38There was this one industry,
43:39one organization that was missing,
43:41and he's made a mark there as well.
