00:00A white Christmas in the middle of summer.
00:05Look at it.
00:06It's not to be expected, but we're loving it.
00:11At this altitude, in Tasmania's Kununyi, Mount Wellington, it's low temperatures and
00:17high spirits.
00:18It's unreal.
00:19I can't believe it.
00:20It's nuts.
00:21It was the opposite in Western Australia, as an oppressive heat wave left Perth residents
00:29copping 40-degree weather.
00:32Nearly 3,000 kilometers to the northwest, Cocos Keeling Islands faced the brunt of Cyclone
00:38Grant, which brought down trees and caused minor flooding.
00:41Around sort of like 2 or 3 in the morning, it was just ferocious, about 100-kilometer-hour
00:46winds.
00:47It was a more traditionally Aussie Christmas for this English family on the Gold Coast.
00:54We're outside.
00:55We've got our hats on.
00:57It's sunny.
00:58We're having...
00:59We've already had champagne.
01:01And we're not cold.
01:02And it's not great.
01:03It's beautiful.
01:04And now we're going to go and swim in the surf.
01:06Family have just come over, and we're going to spend it next to the beach.
01:09Can't get any better.
01:10In Sydney, the prime minister joined the Bill Cruz charity lunch.
01:14Hundreds also showed up for the Wesley Mission annual free Christmas lunch.
01:19The day started with carols, singing, and a special performance just for children.
01:26And I give gifts for children.
01:31Souls were filled with the spirit of Christmas before bellies were filled with this holiday
01:37feed.
01:38It was so emotional.
01:39I was crying.
01:40Because it's so beautiful.
01:41I remember what enjoys this day.
01:43Despite the hopeful spirit, many were still feeling the ripples of the Bondi attack.
01:48People are feeling quite heavy.
01:49Just thinking, praying for those who are suffering right now.
01:53There's no question that our city has been unsettled and changed irrevocably of what happened
01:57at Bondi 10 days ago.
01:59And that's why connection is so important.
02:01Why committing to who we are as a community, that is a rich multicultural city made up of
02:09just this wonderful diversity.
02:11And there is strength in that when we come together.
02:15In Melbourne, Santa visited sick kids at the Royal Children's Hospital.
02:19Even animals were roped into the holiday spirit.
02:28At Adelaide Zoo, they eagerly tore into their species-appropriate goodies, bringing the Christmas
02:35cheer to all.
