00:00I believe one-on-ones with your direct reports are valuable.
00:02The frequency depends upon the employee and their charter.
00:06I do host one-on-ones with my direct reports.
00:09I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of one-on-ones
00:11because I find that people over-prepare
00:13and I really want genuine discussion.
00:14Yes, I definitely host one-on-ones with my direct reports.
00:17I think communication is still very important.
00:18I like doing short one-on-ones but also making them optional.
00:22So is there anything to cover this week?
00:23And if so, we go over it.
00:24And if not, we actually skip it.
00:25I definitely host one-on-ones with my direct reports.
00:28It's one of the better uses of time.
00:31I think in terms of like an efficient way to get work done,
00:35I'm not a fan.
00:36But honestly, a lot of it for me is just like checking in
00:38and sometimes having some of those free-flowing conversations.
00:42They unearth things that you wouldn't otherwise know to ask
00:45but that are actually really important.
00:46Not always regularly on the calendar,
00:49but I definitely have one-on-ones with everybody.
00:52We have formal weekly one-on-ones
00:54and then I'm talking to them constantly.
00:55We're in lockstep.
00:56I do, but not with all of them.
00:58I used to do it with all of them,
01:00but some of them prefer ad hoc interactions.
01:02So with some, I'm regularly scheduled
01:04and with some, I'm ad hoc and we call each other up.
