00:02Earlier this month, Nedlands MP Jonathan Huston was...
00:06He's a great talent. He's got a lot to offer.
00:08And we're only early into our journey together.
00:12He was the opposition spokesperson for deregulation
00:15and campaigned fiercely against a ferry terminal opposed by locals.
00:19We must stop this jetty from coming to Matilda Bay.
00:24His journey with the party now at an end.
00:26The key sticking point, his desire to raise mining royalty rates
00:30to fund a policy he says will better share the state's riches.
00:34We can in harmony reduce
00:37and then eventually abolish payroll tax in Western Australia
00:39which would be an amazing competitive edge for Western Australian businesses
00:43and then also create a sovereign wealth fund
00:46for future generations of Western Australians.
00:49The Liberal Party will not compromise on some of its fundamental beliefs
00:52especially in the policy position around mining royalties.
00:55It's understood Mr Huston's departure wasn't really a surprise to some within the party
01:00and that on at least one occasion previously
01:02he had raised the idea of quitting the Liberals.
01:05It is though one of the first major tests of Basil Zemplis' leadership of the party
01:10and his ability to maintain a united front.
01:13If that means accepting the resignation of one of our team members
01:18if they are unable to operate within the team structure
01:21then that's what good leadership looks like.
01:23When he cannot lead this team, how can he lead the state?
01:27The pair say there's no bad blood but there is some frustration.
01:32I'm mostly disappointed for the Liberals in Nedlands
01:36who send him into the Parliament of Western Australia
01:39and they have every right to be disappointed.
01:40I'm going to have to work very hard to retain the support of those people
01:45and that's another reason why I need three years to do it.
01:47The Liberals plan to contest the seat at the next election in 2029.
01:54it's amazing to see everybody who's searching for an active mission in asking a modern Formula desk
01:56but it should even be a commotion!
01:56who has been doing new societies for thinking different people
01:56so they take a moment for all – thank you very much for being here.
01:56like may I keep feeling like you haven't been thinking this video
01:56or like you haven't done related things or even after designing a new meeting
01:57there are not true.
