00:07after a 35-year-old woman's body was found in a home just before 6.30 this morning. A child

00:13also found injured about 600 metres away along a busy highway. WA Police have given a press
00:20conference this afternoon where the Detective Acting Inspector of the Major Crime Division
00:25has confirmed police are investigating this as a suspected family violence homicide. She said
00:31a 16-year-old boy is in police custody and there is no ongoing risk to the wider community. She
00:38said
00:38the 16-year-old was the son of the deceased woman and the brother of the injured 12-year-old
00:43girl.
00:43Now that girl has been confirmed to be still in hospital receiving medical treatment and the
00:49inspector said the 12-year-old was able to flee the scene and called emergency services before
00:54members of the public helped her. Police say the girl and her mother's injuries were both
01:00consistent with stab wounds. The inspector has described this incident as tragic. Here's some

01:11significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved as well as the broader
01:18community. Our thoughts are with them all, particularly the 12-year-old girl who remains in hospital
01:24receiving treatment. Recognising the confronting nature of this investigation, WA Police Health and
01:31Welfare Support Services are in place for all officers involved in the response.

01:44Police say the matter is still actively under investigation, Lorna, and no charges have been
01:50laid. The inspector said police did not believe there was any other person involved and she said
01:56the suspect is known to police and they will explore any interactions that person has had with police.
02:03Now multiple police officers and detectives are still at the scene and police are encouraging any
02:09neighbours or witnesses with any information to come forward through contacting Crime Stoppers or
02:15approaching police officers at the scene.
