00:01Iran struck a tanker transiting through the Strait of Hormuz as the United States fired
00:06at Iran for a tenth consecutive night. U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on
00:14most Canadian goods, citing unfair treatment on American cars, alcohol and dairy products.
00:20Britain's new Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledges to set out new measures to help tackle
00:25the cost of living before setting out a new 10-year plan for the country later this year.
00:31Iran said on Tuesday it struck U.S. military assets in Bahrain and Kuwait, targeting air
00:37defense systems and a radar at different U.S. outposts. Iran's armed force also attacked a
00:43tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, forcing the crew aboard to abandon the vessel. The IRGC said it
00:49had stopped the tankers that were transiting through what they called an unsafe southern
00:54route of the Strait after explosions caused fire on the vessels. On its end, the United
00:59States military announced it completed its tenth consecutive night of strikes against Iran,
01:04targeting sites in an effort to counter Tehran's ability to attack ships passing through the
01:09Strait. In recent weeks, fighting has intensified significantly between the two sides, bringing
01:16traffic through the waterway almost completely to a halt and pushing oil prices up.
01:21On Monday, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momemi arrived in Pakistan for official talks.
01:27His visit comes as Pakistan continues its mediation efforts to end fighting between the U.S. and
01:33Iran, although the intention of Momemi's trip remains unclear.
01:41U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 50 percent tariffs on most Canadian goods in retaliation for
01:47what he called unequal treatment on American cars, alcohol and dairy products. The White House said
01:54Canada was one of the two countries, along with China, to retaliate against Trump's previous duties
01:59in 2025. The new tariffs would include a range of goods, including everyday items, but would exclude
02:07energy products, potash, fish and critical minerals. The White House said the tariffs would go into effect
02:13in 30 days. While Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said otherwise prepared to negotiate with the Trump
02:21administration, the move could trigger a new wave of economic chaos. It risks leading to higher inflation
02:28and further straining the relations between the two nations that had long been closely connected
02:32before Trump's return to the White House. Also for Trump, the new tariffs carry serious political
02:38and economic risks ahead of the November midterm elections.
02:46Andy Burnham became the U.K.'s new Prime Minister on Monday, becoming the seventh premier to preside over
02:52the country in 10 years as the U.K.'s political turmoil continues.
02:57Starmer, who announced his stepping down just one month ago and speaking for the final time in his tenure of
03:03two years before tendering his resignation on Monday before the King, said his work is done and wished Burnham
03:10well in his mission to lead the country. Burnham was appointed by King Charles later the same day, inviting the
03:16former
03:17Greater Manchester mayor to form a government. Speaking for the first time as Prime Minister, Burnham said he wants
03:24to usher in a new era for the U.K.
03:27Later this year, I will bring forward a new plan for Britain, a 10-year plan. Laying out a path
03:37from where we are now
03:39to where I believe we all want Britain to be, wherever we're coming from, whatever party we support.
03:47But I can do something to give people some breathing space now, some help with the cost of living and
03:57I will set
03:58out some of those measures starting tomorrow, including how we pay for them." Londoners, who've become accustomed to
04:07high Prime Minister turnover as of late, have expressed hope that Burnham will turn the tide and even optimism
04:13that he could overturn the very thing that has divided the nation.
04:17Well, I think he seems like a nice man from what I've seen from his campaigns over Manchester,
04:22but I'm hoping that maybe I did hear that Andy Burnham might maybe bring us back into Europe,
04:27so you never know. That would be a good thing for the country, I think." Burnham has been widely
04:32credited with positively transforming Manchester in his nine-year spell as mayor, a feat many are hoping
04:37he can replicate nationwide. Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, the newly appointed Premier said his
04:44government aims to overhaul the education system, build more social facilities and drag the UK out of
04:50economic decline.
04:58The European Commission fined AliExpress 550 million euros for failing to adequately assess and mitigate
05:06risks linked to the sale of illegal, unsafe and counterfeit products on its e-commerce platform.
05:12The Chinese platform's product compliance checks were also found to be vulnerable to abuse,
05:18with malicious traders allegedly misclassifying products to exploit less stringent requirements.
05:24According to the European Commission, large volumes of illegal products continue to circulate on AliExpress,
05:31despite moderation efforts.
05:33The company itself reported that almost 15 million illegal products were recommended last year to users
05:41in the European Union. We were mostly speaking about unsafe and counterfeit products,
05:46such as cosmetics, toys, clothes or gadgets, to name just a few."
05:51The final is the latest development in formal proceedings, launched in 2024,
05:56over a potential breach of the EU's Digital Services Act. AliExpress now has until the 20th of October 2026
06:03to submit an action plan outlining how it will address the Commission's concerns.
06:12Ukraine launched over 400 drones toward Moscow overnight on Monday, reportedly hitting an oil depot
06:20and a logistics center. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces also struck
06:27two Shadow Fleet tankers and four cargo ships in the Black Sea. Russian authorities claimed most of
06:34the drones were downed far from the capital and 85 were intercepted near Moscow. Russian officials said 10
06:42people were wounded by Ukrainian drones and several residential buildings and civilian infrastructure
06:48were damaged. The attacks followed a weekend of escalating exchanges between the two sides,
06:54with Russia targeting Kyiv with ballistic missiles on Sunday and Ukraine hitting warehouses
07:00forces belonging to one of Russia's largest online marketplaces, wild berries, outside of Moscow on
07:07Saturday. Russian media reported that another fire was reported at a warehouse belonging to the Russian
07:14online retailer in Ukraine's latest attack. The growing escalation indicates no ending sights in the war,
07:21but Kyiv has said its strikes on the Russian capital are intended to damage Russia's offensive capabilities,
07:28and pressure the Kremlin to negotiate.
07:34At 5.30 am local time on Monday, air raid sirens sounded in all cities of the Republic of Cyprus,
07:41marking the 52nd anniversary of July 20, 1974, when Turkey launched its invasion of the island. An initial
07:49ceasefire agreement only lasted a few days after the initial incursion, which saw Turkey take control of
07:55roughly 3% of the island in its opening offensive. In August 1974, the second phase of the operation
08:02known as Attila II followed, during which Turkish forces expanded their control to the northern part
08:08and with it seizing over a third of the Mediterranean island. Between 4,000 and 5,000 people were either
08:14killed or gone missing from the invasion. International organizations, including the UN, have on numerous
08:20occasions pointed towards violations committed by Turkish forces against Greek Cypriots, including
08:26violence and displacements. The island nation is currently the only European Union member state with
08:32part of its territory under occupation, and the Cyprus issue has remained unresolved for over half a century.
08:39Cypriot President Nikos Kristodolides paid tribute to those who died resisting the invasion.
09:12Cypriot President Nikos Kristodolides'
09:14We want to be able to help our country,
09:16and we want to be able to strengthen our country.
09:19We want to continue these strategic works
09:23as well as well as from the head of the European Union
09:29which has a more political role,
09:32ready to represent the political role.
09:35And we hope that when we are here
09:37there will be positive concerns
09:41for the situation that we have.
09:43The anniversary comes amid a potential revival of UN-led peace talks between the island's
09:48Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot communities, which are aimed at reunifying the island.
10:02Spain's national team marked a historic day of World Cup celebrations on Monday,
10:07starting the festivities at the Zarzuela Palace, where the king and the queen welcomed the world
10:11champions. The team also met with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez before parading through Madrid
10:18in an open-top bus. An estimated two million supporters filled the streets of the Spanish
10:25capital. From the bus, the players waved to the crowds, lifted the World Cup trophy and celebrated
10:31with the supporters lining the streets.
10:37Today is a party, but well, yes, it is a party.
10:40You have to be calm because tomorrow you have to work, it's bad.
10:43You have to be calm until the 7 of the morning, with a couple of cups and for lunch.
10:47Until the office.
10:48Here with all the world, so we have to celebrate.
