I-DIY: Easy, Embellished Sunbursts To Dress Up A Blah Oxford

By Chloe Daley, Photographed by Sarah Balch

We love our basic oxford button-up as much as the next girl, but sometimes, it can feel as inspired as an empty office cubicle — business-casual blah in the most boring of ways. Inspired by J.Crew's jeweled medallion sweater and countless other embellished tees this season, we grabbed our needle and thread and quick-stitched some silver bugle beads on for our own star-studded look. Watch the video for the easy step-by-step.

00:00You say sunburst, I say starburst.
00:07Hi guys, I'm Chloe with Refinery29 and today on iDIY we'll be taking this basic Oxford shirt and doing a
00:14starburst embellishment.
00:16We've been seeing a lot of it this season, so let's get started.
00:20What you'll need is a basic Oxford shirt, a pen, needle and thread, some small silver beads, crystals and glue.
00:28So for the first step, I'm going to take these small silver beads and start arranging them on the shirt
00:35to see what kind of a pattern I want.
00:38And I'm going to do three beads per starburst, probably about five per side.
00:43And once I've laid them out, I'm going to take my pen and just do a tiny dot, that way
00:50I'll remember where I am when I'm sewing.
00:52And I'm just going to start by taking one and I'm going to go under the shirt, very close to
00:58the dot, and go up, thread the bugle through.
01:02Just hold it against the shirt while I go back in.
01:06Then I'm going to go back through the bugle and secure it a few more times.
01:10And then I want to go ahead and do that with the other two.
01:14So once you've finished that starburst, you'll want to do just the same thing all down the shirt.
01:19So once you've sewn on all the silver bugles, you'll want to go ahead and take the tiny pink crystals
01:25and put just a dab of glue on the back and stick it into the center of all the flowers.
01:32So once you've finished gluing all your crystals on, you're all set.
01:35This is such a great project for adding a little bit of a twist to an old oxford that you
01:40haven't worn in a while.
01:41And I don't know what you look for me.
