00:06Oh, hi. I'm just trying mom on for size. Turns out, not ready. Hi, I'm Laura
00:13Wilcox and this is Fem-Ed. This is what having it all looks like. So today on Fem-Ed, we
00:22are
00:22going to explore the mystical, exciting world of technology for babies. Now I'm
00:31some very years old, so according to science, the ideal time for me to get
00:35pregnant would be like three years ago. Cool. But technology is changing pregnancy
00:43and it's changing the way we parent. So I'm going to conduct some experiments
00:47today to better understand what it means to be a baby of the future. So come
00:55step into my very scientific laboratory as I find out if you can raise a healthy
01:00baby using a telephone. Hello. It's for you. Babies can't talk on the phone. It's just a goof.
01:12Now I'm also hoping that these experiments will help me decide if I am in fact ready
01:17to start popping these guys out. Or if maybe I should get like a plant or
01:24something. Cute, right? So let's throw my biological clock up there. Why the hell
01:29not? Come, let us experiment. Away! Put my baby down here. So wow, this is a lot of baby
01:40stuff, huh? Baby industry is a billion dollar industry. So let's talk about this
01:44thing. The Hatch Baby Smart Changing Pad, which back in my day, changing pads didn't
01:51know shit. So what's this? Well these know shit because they measure shit. Literally.
01:57Oh god. So this is a changing pad with a scale built in. So it is for neurotic parents who
02:05want
02:06to know exactly how much breast milk or formula their baby took, pooped, and reweighed their baby
02:12to see how much possibly between when they fed, how much that feeding weighed, or how
02:18much that poop weighed. So they can know exactly at that moment in time what their baby weighs.
02:23I'm just wrapping my head around that as someone who's not a mother yet. It's just like a lot
02:28of poop. A lot of the time. So this looks low-tech. What's this thing?
02:32Well, it's deceiving because the fabric is NASA designed. Oh my god. Get out of here.
02:39Didn't they get defunded? But the Little Lotus actually has a nice background. So this is a baby
02:42swaddle, which is like a wrap with velcro to keep your baby snug when they're a newborn.
02:49With NASA technology. With NASA technology. So the price point is very high for this product. It's
03:02a baby. It better teach it how to read. It better teach it how to walk if I'm paying $99
03:07for a blanket.
03:08Let's talk about this thing. The baby pod. What is the baby pod? So the baby pod is a speaker
03:16that a pregnant
03:17woman can insert into her vagina. Oh wow. Wasn't expecting that. Yep. She attaches this to her phone
03:23or her iPod and she's supposed to play music to help her baby's brain development. Do I think it's
03:31necessary? I think it's complete nonsense. Okay. Good. Because this feels like utter bullshit.
03:36This is a toy by Fisher-Price that comes apart into different pieces and every way you assemble
03:44the colors with the arrows, your caterpillar will crawl in a different way. Okay. So they market it
03:51as early coding and an early coding toy because kids figure out patterns. This is coding. This is like
03:57a coding toy to trick your toddler into learning how to code. This is coding 101 for a two-year
04:00-old.
04:01Yeah. So this is a toy developed for those like parents who worry about getting their kids into
04:05Harvard when they're like six months old. Exactly. They're going to be geniuses. Right. This is a
04:08little baby genius toy. Yeah. Okay. Wow. I used to play with like cereal boxes and markers when I was
04:15little. What is this? This is the Mimo baby monitor. Okay. Mimo baby monitor. It looks like a little onesie
04:22to me. It is a onesie and I believe there's two parts to it. I believe there's a monitor on
04:28this
04:28shirt and I believe that this is also a monitor that goes onto your baby's sheet in the crib. It
04:33will send messages to the parent's phone or the caregiver's phone if the baby's not moving for how
04:39long they haven't moved. We're trying to like sneak out. We're trying to sneak out. This is kind of like
04:44the NSA but for babies. Exactly. In onesie form. The Starling. You're supposed to put that onto your baby and
04:49it
04:49measures how many words your baby hears in like a 24-hour period. Okay. So we need to know how
04:58much
04:59they're pooping, what they're pooping, how much milk weight they've gained, if they've moved up or down,
05:05if they know how to code and now we need to monitor how many words your baby hears. I need
05:11a nap just from
05:13thinking about being a baby. Oh yeah. She loves it. She looks sedate. She looks calm. That's all the time
05:23we have for
05:24today. So until next time, come back next time. What's up YouTube? I'm Laura and if you want to watch
