00:00Hi guys, I'm Neanne. I am the editorial assistant on the beauty team here at Refinery29.
00:04I am here with three contouring versions and also simultaneously R29 staffers.
00:16To what extent is contouring almost like a physical Photoshop?
00:22Because if you can sculpt your face and make your face look thinner,
00:26isn't that what everyone says is wrong about Photoshop and people looking thinner on magazine covers and things like that?
00:33But also, I feel like I agree with, if that makes you feel good, go ahead and do it.
00:37On Photoshop, you can completely alter someone's face.
00:41You can completely eradicate blemishes and makeup.
00:44I mean, contouring isn't any different from putting on mascara.
00:48It's still defining what you already have.
00:50I mean, when people put a darker color in the crease of their eye, that's in a way that's contouring
00:55as well
00:55because you're creating a shadow there and giving more dimension to that area of your face.
01:00I think it goes along the same line of expressing yourself through clothing.
01:05Yeah, it's so fun.
01:06What's the difference between changing what you put on your body than what you put on your face?
01:10You might love how you look without makeup, but you can also love yourself with it.
01:13I started wearing makeup in, like, ninth grade, I think.
01:16And, like, I hated the way that my face looked.
01:18And then I started wearing makeup.
01:20And for a while, I think I did wear it as a mask.
01:22But after I started to, like, learn what I could do with it,
01:26I actually became more comfortable with my face without makeup.
01:29And I think that learning about makeup helped me get there.
01:32I see all the time on, because it's huge, it's everywhere.
01:35I feel like they'll post, like, this is why you can't trust women anymore.
01:38And it'll be a girl who has, like, a blank face, like, whatever, no makeup on.
01:42But then there'll be a girl, like, totally glam, like, working it with contour on.
01:46And they'll be like, this is dishonest, or something like that.
01:49And obviously, I feel like that's not the case.
01:51I don't think it's the case at all.
01:52Did those dudes really think that that girl had pink cheeks, red lips?
01:56Like, that's how she just, like, woke up, like, that's it.
01:58That's ridiculous.
01:59Kim Kardashian being so open with the amount of makeup that she wears,
02:03I actually really respect her for that.
02:05Yeah, that was awesome.
02:05Because a lot of celebrities are just like, I don't wear any makeup.
02:08But, like, come on.
02:09You do.
02:10Contouring is really fun.
02:12Every part of makeup is really fun.
02:14I didn't do it right.
02:14We have?
02:15Yeah.
02:16I don't think I just personally could do it every day.
02:19I mean, I'll stick to, like, a tinted moisturizer, and, like, I'm good to go.
02:23But I think I look kind of good.
02:25So maybe...
02:26You do look pretty good.
02:28Someone tell her.
02:29She, I think she put more on than you two did.
02:32I put a...
02:33Like, I see a shadow there.
02:35I put a lot on.
02:36Probably more than I should have.
02:38I like this little shadow here.
02:40I'm glad you like it.
02:41And you can use, like, a blender right?
02:42A little blending right here.
02:43You're not supposed to bring it down, like, for, like, a shade like this.
02:47You're supposed to just keep it to this, to, like, just under this, your jawline area,
02:51because then, like, this demarcation happens.
02:55Demarcation!
02:57That vocab.
02:58Yeah, honestly.
02:59I didn't do that vocab, though.
03:01SATs.
03:01This was as hard as SATs, though, for me, so...
03:04That's so true.
03:05Like, I was like...
03:05I will say that if it were me, I would have done a little bit more.
03:10What?
03:10More?
03:11Just because, like, I can't really see any, like, shadows.
03:15Contouring, like, any other makeup technique is really, like, up to you whether or not you want to do it.
03:20You know, everyone looks beautiful with or without makeup.
03:23Like, makeup is all about, you know, having fun and enhancing your features if you want to,
03:27and it's, like, a confidence...
03:28It can be a confidence booster, but it's totally, like, you do you.
03:32Like, if it makes you feel good, you should do it.
03:34If it doesn't make you feel good, then don't.
03:36That's a wrap, and thank you so much for watching, guys.
