00:01Hey guys, and welcome to the mention I'm Emily
00:05The Olympics but we are before we get started. We are sipping on some Perry a Jewish shop
00:15Drink at some of the after parties one which I will be attending which is the call me by your
00:20name cat party
00:21Okay, we'll be
00:22Of course Serena's like I'm attending I'll be on the guest list there. We'll see but cheers guys. I'm excited
00:30Cheers. All right. Are you guys ready for some champagne and hot tea because I have a lot here
00:35We have a lot of Oscars hot tea so first up
00:38We've been talking a lot about kind of red carpet politics this award season right everything from that what people
00:42are wearing
00:43To what kind of questions should be asked and E! News has kind of come under fire
00:47And there's a lot of guessing about what's gonna happen on Sunday because first of all
00:52E! Kind of came under a little bit of controversy earlier this award season when a lot of celebrities from
00:57Debra Messing and Eva
00:58Longoria to SJP
01:00Basically, we're calling them out for not paying Kat Sadler as much as the rest of the hosts were getting
01:04paid the male hosts
01:05So that happened and then there was also a moment where Tarana Burke the founder of Me Too was speaking
01:10and E!
01:11Instead panned to Dakota Johnson's dress which like who cares about what Dakota Johnson is wearing?
01:17We have the Me Too founder talking right now
01:18So E! has kind of been messing up this award season and on top of that now Ryan Seacrest has
01:23come under fire
01:24Because there were allegations from a former stylist who said that he sexually assaulted her and then a variety this
01:30week got a copy of a letter
01:32She wrote detailing what happened and it's pretty bad like it's pretty damning
01:36I have to say so there's a lot of questions about how he is gonna handle the red carpet on
01:40Sunday
01:41Right because as of right now Ryan Seacrest is still their point of contact
01:44But like you were saying a lot of celebrities are declining to do interviews
01:47There's even a report that the producer said they have no celebrities booked
01:50So it's a big thing and I think kind of what we saw with E! is you know obviously E!
01:55is a huge network and they want to be as politically correct as possible
01:58But when you pour so much time and energy into the wrong things and not focusing on really dedicating your
02:04time to answering those Me Too times up questions
02:06All people remember are like the Debra Messing moments where E! didn't step up and they didn't you know take
02:11control of the questions they were asking
02:12And as of right now E! does say that Ryan is still supposed to be hosting on Sunday which that's
02:16a bold call because if you read that letter
02:18I mean this girl's talking about how he was groping her in his underwear and this was ongoing from 2007
02:24until 2013
02:25But they said that they closed the investigation against him because of a lack of evidence
02:29But they've had this letter since November, so it's definitely a little sketchy on behalf of E!
02:34And obviously they've had you know they've had controversy with Juliana Rancic I know you love her
02:38Which they've had controversy with Juliana Rancic before for you know she said that Zendaya looked like she smelled like
02:44patchouli on a red carpet
02:45Like they have had they've come under fire a few times
02:48So I think E! needs to really step their game up on Sunday if they really want to stay in
02:52the red carpet hosting game
02:53Absolutely
02:54It's kind of crazy that they're still having Ryan do it
02:57Our celebrity is going to go up to him
02:59What do you guys think?
03:00Well actually The Cut did a big investigative piece yesterday that came out and some of their sources said that
03:06Some celebrities have talked about maybe just going and only speaking to Juliana which I think would be kind of
03:10weird
03:11I think it's like they're trying to make a point
03:13But I think if you really want to make a point just skip E! altogether because I'm sorry
03:17But I feel like they made the wrong call on this one
03:19You know what I also think though is I feel like we're seeing a lot of people being outspoken and
03:22using their place as you know
03:24Being able to speak and have this platform and I could see a lot of celebrities actually going up to
03:28Ryan and and asking about them
03:30Easy times at the right and really just asking straight let me tell you who's gonna be nervous on Saturday
03:33night Ryan Seacrest
03:34I can't imagine the prep that's going into that right now
03:37He knows it's coming
03:38Well, I thought that we'd see no more of Harvey Weinstein, but alas he is near the red carpet
03:44But not really luckily on Thursday a statue a gold statue of Harvey Weinstein appeared very close to where the
03:51Oscars gonna be on Sunday
03:52He's a robe swaddled on a casting couch
03:56Which is incredible because fans can literally go and sit next to him
03:59And he has an Oscar statue kind of placed strategically by his groin area
04:04Um, this is actually collab by street artist plastic Jesus who's best known for his annual Oscar season installations that
04:10aim
04:11Um at the dark side of show business and provide a lot of social camp commentary and he collabed with
04:16Joshua ginger Monroe who's this artist who's behind the infamous naked Donald Trump statues
04:21So I really love this piece
04:23I think it's so poignant and just like even though I don't want to see any more of Harvey Weinstein
04:28I think it's important to show that like just because maybe he's out of the industry doesn't mean his legacy
04:33isn't and that like we still need to continue
04:36hashtag times up
04:38But the piece was intentionally crafted so you could sit next to him and take a picture
04:42Which I thought was interesting because basically
04:44The artists were saying that to be able to knock a monster down and peg and poke fun and ridicule
04:49him helps remove its power
04:51Right, so I thought that was really really smart. What do you guys think about the statue?
04:55I think that's really powerful and actually after I saw this article
04:58I went and looked up the artist plastic Jesus and he's kind of known for making these art installations
05:01Like you were saying that have some sort of deeper meaning or they you know deconstruct some social concept
05:06And so I really loved the fact that he does this and he even said that for this statue that
05:10he created it was a crowd source
05:12So he's like I want funds from that and so people actually supported it
05:15So I think that goes to show that people wanted this to happen
05:17Like you were saying to really claim that power and to have this sort of peace and almost like a
05:22laugh not a laughing moment
05:23But right some sort of where you can feel like you can grasp it and kind of take your own
05:26power back with it
05:27I agree, but I one thing I mean, I don't know
05:29I don't know about you guys, but I didn't even want to see his face like I have some kind
05:32of like another idea
05:33That's a good point
05:34And I think you know
05:35I think variety and or the Hollywood reporter one of the two of them did a story
05:39What if we made the oscar statue this year a woman and I think like something like that that would
05:43have been a little bit more empowering
05:44Could have been a more interesting way to kind of start that conversation of taking the power back
05:48So I got the intent behind that statue, but I didn't love the fact that it was like actually
05:53Harvey because I'm like I don't even want to sit next to that man see that man
05:56I wouldn't want that on my insta feed right. I don't want him here
06:01But it's kind of like he was such a huge part of this year
06:03You feel like you almost have to acknowledge it, right?
06:05Yeah, but yeah, I can see what you're saying there probably other ways to do it, but it seemed like
06:09it could yeah
06:09It definitely made a statement. Yeah, that's for sure
06:12And you guys remember last year the oscar switching gears just a little bit to another scandal was when the
06:18best picture was announced
06:20The most infamous moment where la la land thought they had won the best picture award
06:24It turns out moonlight actually had won and cue to the most awkward
06:2825 to 30 second clip on television people were scrambling no one knew what to do people were pointing fingers
06:35It was a huge thing and honestly, I was cringing at home. Do you guys remember watching?
06:39Oh, absolutely
06:39I was here in the office at refinery and all of us literally were just like what's happening?
06:43Like it took a minute to really figure out what had happened because we were all just screaming and I
06:47was like I can't hear
06:47What are they saying? Like it was it was the craziest moment? I've ever seen on ever
06:51And it was why and so many people were pulling for la land some people pulling for moonlight
06:55So the fact that those two up against each other
06:58Crazy, so this year the Oscars are not taking any chances and I thought this is really interesting
07:03They've actually implemented six new rules. Oh, are you guys ready for them?
07:08The first one the celebrity presenter and the stage manager will confirm they have been giving the correct envelope
07:13Which to me is a no-brainer
07:14Why was that not happening already?
07:17I am confused why that's a new rule being implemented, but okay the second
07:21EWC partners are prohibited from using cell phones or social media during the show
07:25I guess they could get distracted or it's just that's what happened
07:27He was taking a selfie the guy that messed up last year
07:29Taking a selfie he wasn't supposed to be doing that because oh here's the card
07:34I got to take a selfie and like that's what happened
07:37Yeah, no, no cell phones at all
07:39Right there one job
07:40The pwc accountants who actually do the show will have the memorize the winners list before you know
07:46It's always you open it up and they're surprised to they already know so there's no no chance
07:50So a third balloting partner in the control room also has the list memorized
07:54So if something happens they're going to cut away the control room will know so all three accountants will attend
08:01rehearsals and practice
08:02If anything goes wrong, which again another one shouldn't they already be in rehearsals and practice?
08:06I don't know all right
08:07And then this year the pwc chairman tim ryan will personally be involved with oscars operations this year
08:12So I feel like tim was project last year. He's like you guys are all screwed up. I'm taking it
08:16over
08:16Yeah, yeah, he was probably at home eating popcorn
08:19He was like ah damn next year. I gotta actually go to this show the team make sure they do
08:23it like no
08:24I mean the thing about last year
08:25It's like okay the right person that ended up winning the right movie
08:28But at the same time like I was upset because because it was a live show and it had to
08:32end
08:32I feel like moonlight didn't get there the speech that they got to make like it was like oh like
08:37craziness
08:38Like they almost got robbed of their moment
08:40And the next day I mean there was a lot of memes about that and a lot of people who
08:44were outraged and that's why a lot of people thought it was maybe
08:46Conspiracy like it was like oh, we're finally going to give this amazing black movie this moment, but right not
08:51really though
08:51So I mean, I I hope that that's not true. I mean, I wouldn't put a pass anybody
08:58Comment below. I also do feel bad for la la land 2 because you rewatch that clip and they're all
09:03just like rustling around the stage
09:04They look so scared afterwards like that has to be like a
09:08starring moment also also the memes of everyone in the audience like meryl street like like yeah
09:13Those were reactions wild wild well guys there's even more oscars controversy this year
09:18It's like there's a lot happening actually the shape of water now y'all know this was I loved the
09:22shape of water
09:23Like I was so excited about this movie like it was so romantic and like fantastical but there's a little
09:29controversy surrounding it
09:30So basically uh this man who named paul zendel says that guillermo del toro who
09:38Directed the movie which by the way it was nominated 13 times for an oscar this year
09:43So it's a big oscar movie. It's in the running for a lot of different categories
09:46It's won so many other awards too. Yeah, yeah, and it's already getting a lot of love
09:50but paul zendel basically accused the director guillermo guillermo of
09:54Plagiarizing the script from a play that came out in 1969 so paul zendel's father david wrote a play
10:01About a woman who is working in a science lab who falls in love with a dolphin
10:06Now that may sound similar to the it does to the shape of water
10:10Which is about a mute woman who's a cleaning lady in a research lab and falls in love with an
10:13alien
10:14So doesn't this all the plot sounds very similar however there are I mean there are some big differences and
10:20guillermo is saying that he
10:23Never ever heard of this play before that all of his collaborators
10:26We have only deny ever having heard of seen read a script for the play anything
10:30Okay, but guys when I watched the movie I was like this is beauty and the beast
10:33Well there I mean there's similarities to a lot of those like a woman falls in love with another species
10:39I didn't think it was that original either
10:40I will say though art imitates art like everything is inspired by something
10:44And I sort of have I feel like that he created this beautiful movie
10:48And he probably was inspired by lots of other things he's seen before
10:51An interesting thing though was that this movie came out last fall and they didn't actually
10:56Come forward about the plagiarism claims until january and so fox in their statement very shadily was like
11:01I think that they just want money out of us because they waited until award season to say anything
11:06And now they're trying to get us to settle but we're not backing down
11:08We're we're standing behind guillermo and his claims that he didn't plagiarize this is his project
11:14No one has ever collaborated on anything with this play so
11:17I mean it was interesting timing like this movie's been out for a hot minute y'all waited till award
11:21season to say anything
11:22And you know that's a really interesting fact that I read yesterday researching the oscars is that typically in the
11:26past oscars year
11:28The winner of best picture their like revenue and sales of people seeing the movie goes up by at least
11:33three million
11:34Yeah, of course right you will make sense right the best picture
11:37But it's yeah, you'll watch it and then they actually go see it which so it's funny
11:40It's like you're right a fox would be like what the heck
11:43Yeah, like they're like you guys are just trying to get the money out of us now
11:46So I don't know
11:47I still love the shape of water and I hope that it gets a lot of love during award season
11:50But there's also so many other great movies nominated, so I guess we'll see did you love shape of water?
11:56Um, no
11:57I know
11:58And I argued about this
12:00It was so funny because after I was gearing up going to see it
12:04I was like yes can't wait like ari loves it the next day I came in and I was like
12:07ari listen
12:08I think maybe I just missed something. I was like I'm so confused. I was literally just like I I
12:14mean
12:14Yes, it was beautiful and then after that. I really did want to learn sign language, but other than that
12:18That was
12:19The takeaway the whole thing I was like I felt like it was overhyped
12:23I did like the art direction, but I'm kind of like
12:25Yeah, I would think I didn't know
12:27I disagree on movies sometimes
12:28It wasn't a disney movie. I get it
12:31Do you guys like shape of water? Oh the shade throwing
12:35If you guys like shape of water, I want to know comment below because I liked it too
12:39I like I thought it was very stylized on to the next guys
12:42There's an oscars category that I should start and it's called break out stars
12:47And if we should say just like that, but anyway
12:49I want to recognize the actors that literally appeared out of thin air
12:54During 2017 and number one. I want to give it to well. I want to give it to
12:58Tiffany Haddish our girl yes, absolutely and timothy chalamet my future husband who is like the he is like the
13:04it person right now
13:05Oh, so sexy
13:062017 was the year of tiffany haddish though and it sucks that girl's trip got snubbed and it was nominated
13:12for zero awards
13:13I know how around it feels about that because it grossed over a hundred and forty million dollars
13:18Worldwide and it was also considered one of the top films of 2017
13:21And I thought that having regina hall queen latifah and jada pinkett smith was like having the trifecta
13:26And then all of a sudden comes this newcomer tiffany haddish out of and i'm like hold on where have
13:32you been?
13:33Yeah
13:33I mean tiffany she didn't really come out of thin air because she's been on the stand-up scene for
13:37a hot minute
13:37Yes, that's true her thing
13:39But it really put her like on the mat for sure so it was really a bummer
13:43But I will say tiffany has gotten some amazing opportunities. She's hosting them to be movie awards
13:48She's going to be doing voicing an animated character. She's the first look now
13:52She did snl she's got she got a first look deal with netflix. So I feel like with for her
13:56She's like oscars who like i'm fine with the eye. It's all good
13:59We actually have a video to show you her best moments of 2017. Take a look
14:04You can't get no infection in your booty ho
14:07It's a booty ho
14:17I want to be somebody when I grow up. I always want to be i want to be i want
14:21to be a huge star
14:22I grew up in foster care anybody else grow up in the system make some noise if it was in
14:26the system
14:30I'm the only special here, huh?
14:33I used to work at an airline
14:34Okay, yeah, yeah, let's get to this story real quick
14:36As soon as I seen you I upgraded you to first class right because your seat was in the back
14:40and so
14:43I asked you for your autograph
14:46And you was like i'm not really in the mood to sign any autographs and i was like i'm not
14:50in the mood to get first class upgrades either but
14:53I want to get my own place one day work with jada pinkie smith have my own stand-up comedy
14:58set special
14:59Sit across from you one day and you googly eye me like yeah
15:07You selected boo boo jeffries
15:10Knock knock who's there boo boo jeffries boo boo jeffries who if you don't know you stupid
15:18They tell you you're not funny they tell you if you do this i'll give you this if you do
15:21that i'll let you open up for me
15:23Uh-uh i'm gonna use my talent i'm gonna use my know-how and i'm gonna use my work ethic
15:27to achieve and then one day you're gonna
15:29Be asking to open up for me
15:30And that's what happened
15:36Many of these
15:43I will not allow no man to shut down this dream i have because it keeps coming to me and
15:48it's like god
15:49Keep telling me you got to do this you got to share your story you got to spread this joy
15:52you got to spread love like you got to do it
15:54That back i'm obsessed with her i mean she is truly my favorite breakout star of definitely and we got
16:01to give some love to tiffany chalamet
16:03He's from new york he went to la guardia high school so i feel like we're like connected somehow and
16:07anyway
16:07I thought he had an amazing performance in call me by your name he's been in homeland like he's been
16:11around as an actor too
16:12But like this was really his breakout movie and he's nominated for best actor so i'm really hopeful for him
16:18that being said the youngest person
16:20Ever to have won best actor was 29 years old and that was adrian brody when he played the pianist
16:25in the pianist
16:25So i feel like the academy isn't about giving really young people awards but i think if anyone were to
16:32do it it would be timothy for sure
16:34I mean that scene at the end of that movie when he looks into the camera like
16:37Crying for five minutes has been talking about that scene i've never seen a movie like that in a movie
16:42ever
16:42Everything i mean i think you don't see him reading acting you don't see you don't see him like okay
16:47This isn't the script like sometimes you can catch up with that like it just he is the role
16:51He played it so beautifully and i just i don't know i really i'm hoping for it
16:56You know what i want to watch call me by your name tonight
16:57Me too
16:58Let's have a movie party
16:59You know in titanic like there's something about him that's so captivating
17:04I feel like he's like a little young leah where like and now everyone's obsessed with him he's on the
17:08cover of gq
17:09He's got all these new movies books jennifer lawrence is like i'm waiting to marry him and i'm like girl
17:12get in line
17:13But i really feel like i don't like that pairing honestly i feel like if he doesn't win this award
17:18season
17:19He's going to be around for a very long yeah i mean he's also in lady bird which came out
17:23like i think he this is really just the start for him
17:25I think you're going to have an amazing career absolutely so if he doesn't get an ostrich on sunday
17:30i think he's going to get it but i am rooting for him i love him i've got our favorite
17:33moments to timothy
17:50i don't know who i fooled to let me into a category with someone as talented as mary j blige
17:55but i will take it the ease with which you are able to traverse across so many mediums with such
18:00skill miss blige is a tremendous inspiration and i'm simply honored to have been included in the
18:05category with you tonight and i'm serious about that
18:27you're not sick of me yet well i just i just wanted to be with you
18:35i'll i'm gonna i'll go
18:47hey i i like your band uh with jonah ruiz len fance new and alfonso new
18:56uh well i i saw your thanksgiving show my name's lady bird it's weird you shake hands yeah
19:28and lastly since i am a new york guy i thought i'd take a moment to thank some new york
19:33artists
19:34that have inspired me edie falco mary j blige greta gerwig josh safty cardi b al pacino martin
19:40scorsese kid cuddy and my mom who's sitting right there peace and love thank you
20:00all right guys so it is now time to pack a punch i wanted to talk about a movie that
20:04really packed a
20:05punch this year get out do you guys remember when get out first came out and it was just everywhere
20:09it
20:10was like everyone was talking about it it was like it really took over the zeitgeist 100 right
20:14yep so get out really actually made history this year for a few different reasons the first reason
20:19was it was one of the rare movies to get a hundred percent rating on rotten tomatoes which was at
20:23the
20:23time since then like ladybird and a few other movies have gotten the same rating but get out was the
20:28first movie to really ever do that that was a big moment and i think it kind of was an
20:31underdog
20:32movie where you heard about it a ton but then once it was like a hundred percent rotten tomatoes
20:35everyone's like wait what is this right and director jordan peele who you guys may remember from keyan
20:40peele he's a comedian he's been doing his kind of funny thing for a long time so this very unique
20:45kind of combination of horror satire social commentary that was a really it was like something totally
20:51unexpected concoction that he whipped out exactly and we hadn't really seen anything like that um you
20:56know in movies before so jordan peele actually made history as the first director to get best screenplay
21:03best director and best picture nomination and he's a black man so just saying like that is a really
21:07big moment in history for sure um and he also made history because he um is now kind of he
21:14started
21:14this new genre so he's going to be releasing a lot more like social commentary satire horror genre mixed
21:20movies and he's already making a movie which is coming out next year he hasn't confirmed what it's
21:25about but imagine all the things that he could talk about that were kind of like get out but in
21:29a
21:29different way yes that was the big thing is i remember when my roommates and i sat down to
21:33watch a movie one to watch a scary movie a horror movie but i think he does so well as
21:36he mixes this
21:37like sort of thrill of watching you know a thriller or a scary movie but there is such a more
21:41deeper
21:42social construct within the theme of the movie yeah and he did that so effortlessly and then obviously
21:47it appealed to so many people yeah it takes great writing to do that it's all about the subtext it's
21:51right on your on the nose you know drama and scary which we see in all these horror movies recently
21:56like
21:56the fact that he really created a genre which it feels like he did is so sick and also he's
22:03funny
22:03too like right well that's the thing i think the most history making thing that he did with this movie
22:07is he really showed like this was a movie an indie movie about an interracial couple that was like
22:12horror slash comedy that does not sound like it's going to break box office records right and it did so
22:16it just goes to show that like if studios can take a chance on a movie regardless of what it's
22:20about that
22:21will really it could resonate with anyone you don't have to necessarily like see yourself in the movie to go
22:26see it
22:26totally and i'm glad you mentioned that already because last year obviously we saw hashtag oscar
22:32so white sorry not last year but we remembered the oscar so white scandal and the social media outcry
22:37and so this year the academy has changed things a bit as obviously last year there were six black
22:43acting nominees but i have to say i am a little hurt because as a latino woman and i'm sure
22:48you can feel
22:49me on this it sucks that we're not seeing more latinos being represented in the academy or in hollywood
22:54at all right so all latinos are the minority group that hollywood excludes the most latinos make
23:01up 18 of the u.s population and 23 of them are frequent moviegoers that is a huge chunk but
23:07according
23:08to a recent study only three percent of characters in films speaking parts are latino yeah that is
23:14incredibly crazy imbalance that i think that we need to fix so the only one hispanic man has ever won
23:20best
23:20actor and no hispanic woman has ever been named best actress and the last hispanic actor to win an
23:26oscar was penelope cruz for vicky cristina barcelona which is one of my favorite movies but it was for a
23:31supporting role and although latinos were nominated this year it was for all things um behind the camera
23:38not in front of the camera and i don't know i'm bummed i'm really over it i think that you
23:42know i have
23:43seen obviously we've progressed i think that a lot of african americans were nominated but we need to like
23:47where the latinos were the asians let's keep it going what do you guys think about this i mean
23:52what's interesting is i actually last year for the last oscar season wrote a really big deep dive
23:56reported feature about how oscar so white does mean that we also need latinos and asian americans
24:01in hollywood as well we've made a little bit of progress for black folks but now like we also need
24:06to look at what diversity means across the board that was last year and then looking at this year's
24:10nominees things are literally exactly the same so we actually republished my story from last year
24:15and all of those statistics because nothing has changed so one of the things i think is interesting
24:19is we're focusing a lot on me too and time's up this year but we're all of a sudden forgetting
24:24about oscar so white and i think we can talk about all things we need more women we need more
24:27brown
24:28people period that's it preach are i mean i think that absolutely sums it up it's like you they don't
24:33have to you don't have to just focus on one cause because that is a problem you know the fact
24:37that
24:37there is no more diversity than last year when that was goko was my favorite movie of all times
24:41so i hope it takes some yeah speaking of another favorite movie that i love that didn't get any
24:47love this year was the florida project out of all of the movies that i've seen nominated it was one
24:51of my absolute favorites what did you guys think of it yeah i liked it i liked it yeah it
24:57was my favorite
24:57movie i agree that i thought it should have gotten more love but i but i wasn't like blown away
25:02by this
25:02i think it was very independent film yeah i think i did like the social commentary i did like what
25:07i
25:07talked about poverty and right but the acting was incredible but did you know is it going to knock out
25:13get out or shape of water i don't think so i do have to say i just thought it was
25:17so beautifully done
25:18willem devoe is actually nominated for um best actor and so he was the only one from his cast though
25:23but the other cast we have little brooklyn prince who's the most adorable little girl and then
25:27alongside um bria venate who's a newcomer and she's actually typecasted for this role so she's
25:32her first ever acting job was this movie so i just thought the the whole movie that everything
25:36was so good it was like very documentary reality style and i just really liked it i thought very
25:40beautifully done so that's another one that i think should have gotten a little more love fair enough
25:43my unpopular opinion is about lady bird i know that everyone really loved this movie and i liked lady
25:49bird i thought that it was it was like you know everyone can see a little bit of themselves and
25:52their
25:53mothers in this movie but all of the love that lady bird got this year i thought it was a
25:56little bit
25:57overhyped like the direction was not the greatest i love that it was a woman director love that it was
26:02mostly female cast that's great but i just like all the hype was like a little bit extra for this
26:06movie because i i don't know like also like the storyline between her and her mom like i wasn't
26:11allowed to talk to my mom like that and like just a lot of the different things like i like
26:14was like
26:14this is a cute movie but i wasn't like oh my god like this is me which a lot of
26:19people were i think it
26:19just came at a really good time for sure times up and me too and it was it's a good
26:24moment for a female
26:25director do i agree with you do i think it was the best directing ever no i think like get
26:29out
26:29had some of the best directing i've seen for sure that being said i thought it was a good feel
26:34good
26:34movie but to be honest with you like it hasn't drawn me back i haven't like want to go see
26:38it
26:38again yeah call me by your name on the other hand like get me to the theater now that's what's
26:42funny
26:42is we were talking about this the other day is when i think about lady bird i do have fuzzy
26:45feelings
26:45like i love it but i can't really remember exactly what happened in this movie actually but you know
26:50you know what i think is so special is what i was going to say is the cast and i
26:53think you can tell
26:54they have a very special relationship and that kind of showed on screen so i think people were more drawn
26:57to like
26:57the very specific characters yeah ronan is like yeah exactly one interesting thing about lady bird
27:02too is that um there is a movie with america ferrera that came out in 2000 called real women have
27:07curves
27:07love this and there was a writer who actually pointed out that there's a lot of similarities
27:11between that movie and lady bird and it's not exactly the same plot and maybe this is another shape
27:16of water situation but it's really interesting that greta gerwig never really acknowledged any
27:20inspiration from that movie and there was never really talks about how this latino movie came out a long
27:25time ago and it was actually kind of like a catalyst for a movie like lady bird and no one
27:29really ever
27:29was talking about it and it's also weird that she never even acknowledged it once a writer pointed it
27:34out for sure sketchy all right but guys you know what we're talking about all of these great oscar
27:39nominations and i think it's time to quiz you guys on your oscar knowledge so it is game time baby
27:45i know that we're already gonna beat me up i didn't know that we're gonna be taking shots and i'm
27:49gonna be
27:50drunk and like this is how it's gonna go so the game is called a hot shot lucky number seven
27:53edition and we have our
27:54lovely assistant ally who's gonna bring in a couple of our hot shots so it's funny oh my god what's
28:02happening so with the oscars historically they they kind of follow a pattern which is really interesting
28:07doing some research about it they all go in years of seven are a lot of the really great movies
28:11so 1987
28:121997 2007 2017 have just had a lot of really good nominations sorry so we're continuing our lucky number
28:20seven streak today so i have ten questions five for each of you okay you have seven seconds to answer
28:26on your own and ally will actually be keeping track of time so if you don't know the answer you
28:30can have
28:31two facetime of friends you guys have your friends selected yes we do okay and so if you don't know
28:35you can face yeah i have to face seven seconds do i save within the seven seconds if i want
28:39to phone
28:39a friend yes you have seven seconds to answer and or decide you want to phone a friend okay got
28:43it all
28:44right so so then if neither of you you or your friend know the question or if you don't know
28:48the
28:48question you have to take a hot shot now this isn't what you think it's a mix of everything so
28:55it can
28:55be it some are alcoholic some are not some are different interesting okay some are not i'm gonna win so
29:02it's fine okay so and ally will be keeping track of the score too so are you guys ready no
29:08but yeah all
29:09right here we go it's barely it's not even 1 p.m yet not even 1 p.m get insert

39:15foggy car seven seconds serena prepare to take that shot oh my god thank you i just want to say

39:42unclear poor serena you don't remember the scene when they're in the back of the car and she's like
39:49that looked like that was mixed with something yeah what was that serena gets to go home
39:54serena serena's going to take a little a little time after this wait it was orange juice and tequila
39:59so a nice mixture of things can i have a do you have some water all right i do have
40:05to say that i am
40:06very impressed i thought that was gonna be a little tougher for you guys so just ready next game it
40:09is going
40:11down thank you guys for playing all right so now that that torture is over with i am very excited
40:17because we've been talking about nominations but we haven't talked to fashion yet so i found just the
40:21right girl to come talk to us about fashion she just so happens to be my real life bestie but
40:25she's
40:25also our fashion news writer welcome channing her welcome thank you you look ready for the oscars
40:34already you look so cute you guys look ready for the oscars with your times up pin oh yeah
40:38does serena look a little different to you a little tipsy perhaps from our game i mean girl
40:43i don't know that i could have done that oh so channing we are going to pour you a little
40:48drink too why
40:49tell us a little bit about what we're talking about all things fashion so it's interesting this award
40:54season we really saw fashion move into like the front light as like a form of protest like a real
40:59form of protest um why thank you strong we're there oh well did you just get our game here's the
41:06fashion get on our level girl serena serena okay
41:13so he's like tell us go on so we watched our favorite celebrities like walk the red carpet and
41:21they didn't do it in their typical like fancy gowns they like made a statement every single
41:25time they showed up at an award show so for the golden globes everyone wore black to show solidarity
41:32with time's up and like to just bring awareness to the i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm here oh yeah the
41:38sexual
41:38assault allegations oh no this is not funny the sexual assault allegations um and then for the sags they
41:45did not wear a particular color but everyone like you ladies wore their times up pins at the grammys they
41:50wore their red roses and so on sunday at the oscars we don't think there's going to be any particular
41:55color but we do think that the pins are going to be like a major focus point just to remind
41:59people to
42:00donate to the legal fund associated with time's up and to draw awareness to their cause i don't know do
42:05you guys think that pins are enough i've been going back and forth on this like i think pins is
42:09like
42:09it's a little nice touch but it's not as much of a statement as wearing all black but you know
42:13what i
42:13will say is i love red carpet fashion is probably one of my favorite things about award shows so i
42:18kind of do like the fact that you can still you know showcase designers and and showcase you know
42:22your personal style but still you know come together in unity and i think being like kind of like what
42:28we were talking about earlier channing is being able to still have that platform to talk about things
42:31that matter but again still having one piece of your whole outfit represents something bigger that
42:35being said i feel like because they're wearing a pin it maybe won't be as much of a topic of
42:40conversation compared to at the golden globes when everyone was in black right that was at what
42:46everyone was talking about and i love that too you could still see people's self-expression personal
42:51style but it was really cool like how are they going to wear black how are they going to take
42:55this
42:55theme it's kind of like the met gala vibes right like it's like doing that and i don't know i
42:59think
42:59that i hope that it comes up as much on the carpet in conversation as it would if they were
43:04all wearing
43:05one but i do think it's possible to love fashion love style and still talk about things that are
43:09important so i think that the emphasis needs to be on the celebrities and the people who are asking
43:13the questions to make sure just because i'm wearing this fabulous dress doesn't mean that i can't still
43:18talk about what's happening and already that brings us full circle to what we're talking about earlier
43:21with the way e covers and choosing to still have ryan seacrest cover which it's just a whole interesting
43:25conversation of how we are going to discuss it i also think though it's so important to acknowledge the
43:29designers and the stylists who bring it's a big night for them too i don't think it's fair to just
43:34be like
43:34oh we're going to bypass this this sort of the industry to punish one person great i agree yeah
43:39what do you think about when people say that wearing something whether it be a pin or a color
43:45or a flower isn't enough is not enough to do it's just like kind of like a way it's almost
43:51a passive
43:51thing to do in terms of continuing the new i see that argument and i do think there's some validity
43:57validity there but i still think that fashion is a very strong form of protest and even if it's just
44:02to draw awareness to what it is that your pin or whatever the color that you're wearing represents
44:07that too is important yeah i agree and so channing just on a fun note a lighter note are what
44:14trends
44:14do you think that we're going to see on this red carpet because oscars is one of the biggest nights
44:18that we see in fashion one of the biggest and i think we're still going to see a lot of
44:21pantsuits
44:21fashionist protest mermaid dresses and then the sheer like beyonce gowns everyone still loves to wear
44:27those it will be interesting to see however if anyone wears marquesa this is a brand that harvey
44:32weinstein co-owned with his wife georgina chapman and a lot of times he would dress leading ladies
44:36of his films in this gown like in marquesa and so we saw it a lot on the red carpet
44:41and there's been
44:42rumors that he bullied specific people jessica chastain has come out and said that he's strong
44:46on care a few times carrie washington also so it'll be interesting to see if anyone
44:50fills solidarity with georgina for kind of being punished for his actions but then again maybe are
44:56we just all taking a step back which i was shocked to hear that i i didn't realize like because
45:01you always
45:01just heard of people wearing marquesa on the red carpet but i never would have put the two and
45:05two together oh yeah and i'm not i'm not shocked i mean it sucks but like yeah right with all
45:10the
45:10things that he's done with his power and abusive power i'm sure he was like wear my wife's gown
45:14like you're doing that i got you this movie agreed that doesn't surprise me at all but i don't know
45:17if
45:18i feel bad for georgina right in some ways i do but it also makes me wonder like did we
45:22even like
45:22was marquette marquesa even a great brand before this like would it have been or become what it was
45:27without harvey wines probably not right she got it funded by and then again that takes away from
45:32every other designer who has worked to be in that place who wanted to be represented but instead it
45:35was again an abusive power exactly definitely like a weird construct like it's complicated right because
45:41on one hand like i want to support her as a woman right and as a designer she is talented
45:45but then it's
45:45like well is she who she is because of him right yeah you never want to put the blame on
45:51the woman or the
45:51wife before the man's actions because we don't know what her involvement was what she did or didn't know and
45:55really he has to take ownership for what he did but at the same time that's kind of like blood
46:00money
46:00that was funding her yeah so it's a little it's definitely very complicated yeah it really is
46:06anyway thank you so much shannon for having me thank you for my champagne guys
46:09of course we'll be watching you guys can't wait to see all their fashion coverage it's going to be so
46:14great three nut chin up
