00:00What surprised my friends and family? The handcuffs under my bed? No, I'm just kidding.
00:05Hi, I'm Cynthia Papp. I'm here at Refinery29. Fun fact, my bedroom is
00:10actually my living room. Before I show you around, make sure to subscribe below.
00:15Welcome to My Sweet Digs. I live in Culver City, California and I pay $17.50 for rent.
00:22I moved into this studio two months ago. My style is very mid-century and boho. I
00:29like to pull elements from my hometown in Newport. A lot of my colors are very
00:34neutral and very just earth tone. So the great thing about my studio is it's
00:40really broken up into rooms, so you probably won't catch me cooking in my
00:45bedroom. That'll be in the kitchen. So when you come in, you get to my entry table.
00:51This table actually is a multi-functional. It's from World Market. It can be used as
00:55a little mini desk. It can be used as an entry table. It can also be used to hold
00:59your food on top of your bed if you want, just like a lazy sundae in your bed.
01:02I am very guilty of eating food on my bed, especially after a long day. I just want to
01:09zone out. So yes, very guilty of eating in my bed. And right on the wall, I have two of
01:15my favorite prints from my travels, Paris and Barcelona. I absolutely love them. Every
01:19time I travel, I try to get an artist's print. I have a ton of quirky items that I've saved
01:24throughout the years. One of them being that I love to collect old alcohol
01:28bottles, most notably my little tequila bottle with my floral arrangement inside
01:32of it. Take a few steps and you get to my music center, which features my record
01:36player and my vinyls. I do have a few items that were passed down to me, and
01:40those would be the records that came from my dad. He loves vinyl, so he gave me a
01:44few of his favorites. And on each side, you have my pompas and my vases, which were
01:49some of my favorite finds for this place. And I also have this beautiful graphic
01:54design print of Hank. My dog Hank is an eight-month-old corgi puppy. He is my best
02:00friend. He is the sweetest dog. He's also very energetic. I have a ton of toys
02:05scattered around the room at almost all times, so he can play and get his energy
02:09out. I cannot wait for him to get a little bit older, so that goes away. I love to
02:14listen to my records. It opens up to my entertainment center. I think the thing
02:20that would surprise my friends and family the most would be my TV. I'm a very avid
02:23reader. I don't really watch it much, but before I moved, my mom, she said,
02:28the one thing you might need is a TV, and I caved and I bought one, and she
02:33still likes to say she was right every time she comes. From when I moved in, I
02:38have made some updates. I actually only got this couch a few weeks ago. I thought
02:43that I could do everything in my bed, and then realized very quickly that that
02:46was not going to work. So up here I have my shelf with some of my favorite items
02:50on it. One of them in particular is this watercolor print that this fashion
02:54illustrator did of me in Palm Springs. She did it in five minutes, and I think
02:58it's just so pretty. And then over here I have Post Malone's Rosé. So my Post Malone
03:03Rosé bottle that's sitting on the shelf is because I am probably his number one fan.
03:10All my friends know that it's a serious obsession, and it has not gone
03:14away. So if I was to live in a space on my own without something Post Malone
03:18related, I think that would surprise my friends and family more than anything
03:22else. So over here in my dresser, I have my plant. I'm an aspiring plant
03:25mom, so I'm really trying to green up the space. I have some of my favorite
03:30books right below. And something that I did with all my pieces of furniture is
03:34that I changed the knobs, these gold knobs, so it matches everything. And I also just
03:38love the look of gold hardware. Some of my favorite design tips, especially when
03:42putting my space together, is to create a cohesive color palette. So I made sure
03:46that mine was filled with neutrals and gold. I really advise against mixing metals
03:51in a space. My white and gold bar stools ties in everything with my bedroom. So I
03:57made sure that if I had any metals, even my picture frames, if they were gold. So I
04:02wanted to make sure that I added my own little flare to this. And here's my puppy. So speaking of
04:08my
04:08puppy, Hank, he sleeps here in this crate at night. And then during the day, he
04:13sleeps under this bed, which is this memory foam bed that I got him. It
04:17perfectly matches the pillowcases that are on my bed. So it really helps to make
04:21sure that everything in my space matches. I also have a balcony. I do work from home
04:31in my bedroom. I am also very guilty of working on my patio. Then to my bed where I like
04:38to get
04:38all cozy and go to sleep. My favorite part of my room would have to be my bed area. I
04:44think it's super cute and it's just the coziest part. So one of my favorite pieces I
04:50carried with me from year to year is this print on this piece of wood from Lugano. I studied abroad
04:55there. It's a little tiny city in Switzerland and I absolutely fell in love with the people and the
05:00culture and just the whole scenery of the place. So I love having this as a memory of my time
05:05there.
05:06So I have this wine bottle that looks like a cat that my best friend got me with that frame.
05:10And I put it next to this pretty little plant. It's from Ikea. It's not real, but I just love
05:16the idea of the gold going throughout the room. So one of my favorite movies is the Dead Poets Society
05:22with Robin Williams. And one of my friends for my birthday got me this beautiful print from Etsy
05:27which is Robin Williams standing on the table giving that iconic speech about Carpe Diem
05:31that really just struck a chord with me in high school. These nightstands are also that mid-century
05:36modern look that I've carried throughout the room with the gold fixtures and the gold
05:40knob that I put on there just to keep that gold going. So here we have my bed. What I
05:45really love
05:46is that these pillows perfectly match Hank's day bed that's out on the floor. So when you walk in
05:52and you see it, there's consistency all throughout. Another pro tip I have, always get a blanket
05:57that's a few size bigger than your bed. So when you're laying in bed and you want to cuddle up
06:01and watch a movie, you can get all cozy under a giant blanket. And then finally, to my office.
06:08The desk itself is from Target. It was about $100 from absolute steel. I wanted to make sure
06:12that I had that same mid-century modern look as the rest of my furniture. I put a gold knob
06:17on it
06:18to create that gold cohesiveness that you see throughout. I'm such a fan of cycling. So when
06:23all the studios closed down, I knew that there was something I had to do so I can get my
06:27cycling fix in.
06:28So I got myself a Peloton. I had to put it away from my bed because if it was near
06:33my bed, I think
06:34that would give me a little bit of FOMO because I'd want to lay in my bed instead of riding.
06:40Honestly, one of the best purchases I've made the last few months, I wake up every morning,
06:45I walk my dog, hop on for a 30 to 45 minute ride, and then I go about my day.
06:49It helps me mentally
06:50and physically get ready for the day that I have in front of me.
06:54Living on my own for the first time during a global pandemic has been a little difficult and challenging
06:59because you are really forced to be alone. But honestly, I love it. I never expected to like living alone.
07:06I was always very afraid of it. But once I got the hang of it and got my routine down
07:10and I got settled,
07:11I realized that it's such a blessing to be on my own with my dog and to have my own
07:16freedom to do whatever I want
07:18whenever I want without anyone telling me what to do.
07:26Thanks for watching my bedroom tour.
07:30Bye.
07:31Thanks so much for watching Refinery29.
