00:00With my history, I always tell you, when you have a lot of injuries, one year somewhere,
00:05they don't repeat itself the next year.
00:07Agreed.
00:08For the most part.
00:09And I believe this is like that little, like they went a little harder this year,
00:15they're getting a little bit more Knicks.
00:16I believe they're going to be a little calloused up to be able to go through a season.
00:21And that's probably the point, right?
00:22And that's what I'm waiting for.
00:25Like, I know they've gone harder.
00:28However, I still seem harder.
00:31You know what I mean?
00:32And I just think that it's hard for me when I see guys out to believe they really are hurt
00:41or this is just that way of getting a break without saying I gave somebody a veteran day off.
00:46100%.
00:46You know what I'm saying?
00:47Yeah.
00:47I'm with you.
00:48I'm not saying I'm super concerned.
00:50I'm just – my point is for Quinn to not play people, I can understand the process.
00:59I can understand how he lands there.
01:02Let's let the callers weigh in.
01:03800-636-1067.
01:05Don is in Ashburn.
01:06What's up, Don?
01:07What up, Don?
01:09Hey, what's up, guys?
01:10You know, I think, like, with Jaden even playing a couple series, I don't see that it's worth any risk.
01:17It just takes one play for a season-ending injury.
01:20And if he plays 15 snaps at the beginning of this game, he's not going to play at that level
01:25again for three weeks.
01:26And, you know, when he comes out for the first game, it's going to have zero impact, in my opinion,
01:31on what he did in the 15 snaps of a preseason game.
01:34So I don't take that risk.
01:36And same with these other guys.
01:37And you just made a great point.
01:39Like, they're going after it harder this year.
01:41These guys that are nicked up, they're pros.
01:42And if they need the rest to heal up over the next three weeks, then that's what they've got to
01:46do.
01:46And I wouldn't start anybody that stopped feeling it.
01:49So that's where I'm at, man.
01:51Like, the Eagles – are the Eagles having joint practices with the Patriots, maybe?
01:55Yeah, they've got a lot of people out, too.
01:56Right.
01:57Like, I think this is entirely normal for training camps across the country.
02:02Yeah.
02:02Like, I'm not suggesting – my slighter, greater concern is that they spent a lot of money on the defensive
02:08line
02:09and now you've got a bunch of those guys not practicing.
02:11I don't think any of that impacts week one, which is what matters, right?
02:15I just – I think –
02:18I mean, it's time at this point.
02:21I mean, like, I hear you, I hear fans.
02:25It's time to just say, hey, show up and accept him and play.
02:29I think – I think most fans want Jaden to play.
02:33I don't know.
02:35You don't think so?
02:37I think a lot of the semi-hater fans would, oh, he got to play, he got to play.
02:43But the people that really care about the team, they don't want him to get nicked.
02:46They want him to be ready for the season.
02:49Jeff, where are you, Johnny Commander?
02:52You want Jaden to play?
02:55A little bit.
02:56I'm in the middle.
02:58He got to get some real reps.
03:01I don't care if I see him too serious.
03:02I just want him to get some reps in.
03:06Here's my question.
03:07Does him getting 10 reps make an impact for week one?
03:13I would say, in my eyes, yes.
03:16Yeah.
03:16Because if he goes – he's been going against his team.
03:19Right.
03:21In super control situations where nobody better touch him.
03:24Right.
03:25So he doesn't even have to worry about somebody falling by his foot.
03:28When he goes against the joint practices, it's damn near the same thing,
03:33where both coaches make sure they guys know, don't get close to the starting quarterback legs.
03:39The first time he would see full speed, per se, when somebody could hit him, would be in September.
03:44Jalen Carter.
03:45And you mean to tell me you don't think him going full speed this weekend is going to help more
03:53than him not going completely at all?
03:56Yeah, I think you got to shake some of the frost off.
03:59That's just like where – listen, man.
04:01I understand where football has gone.
04:03But still, if I go out right now and I run 18 plays full speed,
04:10and then I don't run again until September 13th, and I don't go out here and run none at all,
04:17I'll be more prepared after doing 18 plays full speed than I would be if I don't do nothing at
04:22all
04:23until the first time I go out there in September, it has some level of effect.
04:29It may not be as much as many people think or want, but it gives you some level.
04:33Phone lines are open, 800-636-1067.
04:37800-636-1067.
04:40Busy day for the commanders today.
04:43Practice just wrapped.
04:45Pads heavy.
04:46Two hours?
04:47Yeah, that was a legit practice today.
04:49Vince is in Akakeek.
04:51What's up, Vince?
04:52What's up, guys?
04:53What's happening?
04:55Definitely didn't play football at the highest level.
04:58My brother Vic, who y'all speak to, often played D1 football.
05:02But as a guy who did play football in high school, who coaches the sport,
05:06I'm totally on the same page with B-Mitch.
05:09You only get better doing what you do by doing it.
05:12JP, you constantly talk about how you were the king of, I guess, the blog space or something,
05:20the space that you used to be in.
05:21So you get the whole thing.
05:23Still in it.
05:23Follow me on Substack, man.
05:25Right.
05:26You got good at it and you became the king at it because you did it.
05:29Like, it is a difference between practice and live bullets.
05:33That's true.
05:33And as a quarterback, when you know you can't get hit, it's just you can't get hit.
05:40Your body just doesn't brace for the contact.
05:41But when you know you can get hit, it's something that just speeds it up.
05:45I can't explain how every time before that whistle blew, I had a certain level of nervousness.
05:50But when that whistle blew, something snapped.
05:53Like, it's just a different feel.
05:54So I'm not saying keep them out there all day.
05:56I'm not saying put them out there with the wrong people.
05:59But not just Jaden.
06:01Clearly, everybody needs some bump.
06:03You get better playing football playing football.
06:06That's just the best way I can say it.
06:08I hear you.
06:09What he said, and I saw something out there today.
06:13They were going 11-on-11.
06:15He dropped back.
06:16And it was instant.
06:18So I say, great move.
06:19He didn't sit in the pocket and pat, pat, pat.
06:22He immediately took off.
06:24And then when he got to the point where he might have gotten hit, he just did this with the
06:28football.
06:28You know what I'm saying?
06:31You're not doing that in the game.
06:33You're going to be bracing or you're going to be trying to get down.
06:36And right there at that moment, I say, see, that's why he probably needs to play.
06:39And so when it was Vic, not Vince, who just said it, that's exactly what I was thinking when I
06:46was watching that play.
06:47You know what I'm saying?
06:47Because I'm like, bruh.
06:50You know, and then another time, he's going to the sideline just like if he would be scrambling.
06:56And he let it go.
06:57Throw it out of bounds, but he kept moving out of bounds.
07:00If he had thrown it and just stopped, I'd have been concerned too.
07:02You know what I'm saying?
07:02Because in the game, you're going to throw it.
07:04It's going to continue.
07:05Because if you stay in bounds, somebody's going to try to tap you.
07:08Let's let Jonesy weigh in.
07:09Jonesy in D.C.
07:10What's up, dude?
07:12What's going on, JP?
07:15What's going on, B-Mitch?
07:16Happy birthday, my good friend.
07:18Thank you, man.
07:18Listen up.
07:20He don't have to play Jaden.
07:22He does not have to play for me a whole quarter or whatever.
07:27Just a few series, just to let us know, you know, he's there and he's ready, prepared,
07:31and ready to roll.
07:33No.
07:34But, yeah, he don't have to do nothing outlandish out there to get himself hurt.
07:38But, I mean, Philly's in a few weeks, folks.
07:41Got to get ready for that game.
07:42Because how many times have we have seen through the years where the team went on easy streak,
07:48you know, with people like, you know, we don't have those coaches no more, like Jay, you know,
07:53just soft cornering, and then we get inside the regular season.
07:56They are ill-prepared.
07:58They're not ready.
07:59They play flat and wound up losing game ones of the first season, no matter who it is.
08:06So, yeah, just a few series and get them on out of there.
08:09And that is what I have to say, fellas.
08:11Y'all have a great day.
08:12Love you.
08:13You too, brother.
08:13Appreciate you, Jonesy.
08:14The Eagles currently five-and-a-half-point favorites hosting the Commanders in week one.
08:22Like, if Jaden plays, does that line move?
08:27Like, I just don't know what the impact is.
08:31You know what I'm saying?
08:32I don't care about the line.
08:34If we win by one point in every game this year, I'd be cool with that.
08:38As long as we win.
08:40I don't care if it's five-and-a-half.
08:42I don't care if it's two-and-a-half, 20-and-a-half.
08:45Only thing that matters to me is after the game, you find out who he won or lost.
08:49Still, the line may not move because, you know, Vegas have their thing that's been working for them for years.
08:56They're not going to change that up.
08:57But my thing is, when we start this season, the teams we have for the first three weeks, we better
09:06damn well be ready to go if we want to have any chance to try to figure this thing out
09:10by the end.
09:12Because you don't want to start 0-3.
09:14Sure.
09:14And then travel to London.
09:16I totally agree.
09:19I guess my question is, like, almost philosophical in a way.
09:26Like, I feel like the NFL, I feel like there's one thing I blame the union for and one thing
09:32I blame the league for.
09:33I think the union, by allowing these off-season workouts to be voluntary, the union has kind of screwed players.
09:44Because if they're truly voluntary, they don't have to go.
09:47But if they don't go, everybody gives them all sorts of grief.
09:51You know what I mean?
09:52Yeah.
09:52But, like, that's one thing about it.
09:54Who cares?
09:56If it's voluntary, you can give me grief all you want.
09:58I don't have to go.
09:59But when I show up, finally, for the mandatory stuff, or when I got a report, I better be in
10:04shape.
10:05So, players, when they don't show up to a voluntary two- or three-day weekend, don't mean they're not
10:11working out.
10:12You know?
10:13And I think that's the whole thing where the people that give them grief are not the people they got
10:19to answer to.
10:20So, don't worry about it.
10:22But, in turn, the league keeps these preseason games primarily as a function to sell season tickets.
10:32And you have to buy the preseason with your season tickets.
10:36Now, does it help coaches and scouts fill out the back third of their roster?
10:41Yeah.
10:41You get to see what these guys are.
10:43Some guys, this is their opportunity to prove they can do it.
10:46And it matters to a lot of folks.
10:48But by diminishing the value of the preseason, you put these players in this super awkward position where, what are
10:57you going to do?
10:58And I would say McVay really pushed the gas on it when he's like, nobody's playing.
11:03Like, when he got to L.A. running his own program and nobody played, I think really pushed the gas
11:08on it all.
11:08But, it's like this impossible decision.
11:13But, the thing I keep going back and forth with McVay is McVay had a veteran-laden team.
11:19Right.
11:20And he can do that with them.
11:24He had a team that had a bunch of guys that were five, six years and going forward.
11:29We got a team now.
11:31We're trying to get guys started up, acclimated.
11:33And most of those guys are not where the level was with McVay.
11:38So, I understand what he did.
11:41It's not the same recipe for every team.
11:45I think that's right.
11:46Some teams got to add some cayenne pepper to it.
11:49Some got to run away from it.
11:50Some people may want to put a little bit more, some turmeric or some damn whatever.
11:55You know, the other guys might just want to put a little garlic powder.
11:59You got to figure out what works for you.
12:02And if it works, cool.
12:03If it doesn't, then you got to adjust something next time.
