08:05tracking that big story for us this evening.
08:07Srishti, give us an idea about what next for Satyendra Jain.
08:10I mean, he is the in charge of Punjab
08:12for the Ahmadinejee Party in the upcoming elections,
08:14which will be the real test really for the Ahmadinejee Party.
08:18But this time around, it does appear that the news is only tightening around.
08:22And what about the legal road ahead for him?
08:29Well, Sneha, today's arrest, yesterday's arrest by the ACB
08:32has definitely come in as a huge setback for Satyendra Jain
08:35because remember, he's been out of jail only for almost 22 months
08:39after being in jail for 18 months in another money laundering case.
08:42Now, he was produced today before court by the ACB
08:45where the court, where ACB has only sought his judicial custody,
08:49no police custody has been sought.
08:51The Delhi's Rouse Avenue court has yet to pronounce the order on whether
08:56he has to be sent into judicial custody
08:59because it's important here to note that
09:00Satyendra Jain's lawyers have opposed his arrest
09:05and any demands for judicial custody as well.
09:08When Satyendra Jain was brought to court,
09:11he, while speaking to the media, very clearly stated
09:13that this is only happening because of his involvement in the Punjab elections
09:16as the elections are coming up.
09:17His lawyers told court that they're challenging the arrest,
09:20the legality of the arrest,
09:21and they're also moving a bail plea.
09:22They're saying that 27 months after the case was registered by the ACB,
09:27he has now been arrested.
09:28There are no grounds of arrest.
09:29He was only called in for questioning
09:30and the ACB doesn't have enough material
09:32to justify Satyendra Jain's arrest before court.
09:36Now, ACB has told court that there were several,
09:39a huge amount of kickbacks and bribes
09:41which were given as part of this alleged scam
09:43as far as the entire tender process of these treatment plants is concerned.
09:485 crores total amount was mentioned in the court during hearing,
09:51which basically include all the bank transactions and hawala transactions.
09:55We also accessed the remand paper that has been filed by ACB
09:58which says that around 1.94 crore worth of financial payments
10:03have taken place, illegal payments have taken place.
10:07Around 75 lakh of money was floated around through hawala transactions.
10:12Their main allegation is that Satyendra Jain,
10:15who was a then minister and in charge of DJV,
10:18was part of this entire manipulation and the irregularities that took place
10:23as far as the tender process is concerned.
10:25We'll know in some time whether, what the court decides,
10:27whether or not Satyendra Jain would face any further custody in this case or not.

10:41In other news today, let's shift focus to another high-profile case
10:45and this has got to do with Samajwadi party leader Azam Khan.
10:50The enforcement directorate has now conducted searches at 10 locations linked to jailed Samajwadi party leader Azam Khan.
10:58EDI has waited sites linked to Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar Trust and Muhammad Ali Johar University in Uttar Pradesh in
11:05Delhi
11:05as part of a money laundering investigation.
11:08The searches were carried out in Drampur and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh in Jamianagar in Delhi under the PMLA.
11:14In fact, that's the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
11:16The EDI suspects that contractors who benefited from government contracts
11:20subsequently diverted part of the money to the trust and university
11:24through substantial donations and payments for construction work.
11:28The EDI's investigation into matters linked to the Johar Trust and University dates back to 2019.
11:34The latest EDI searches come amid a separate controversy involving the university.
11:39In July, the Rampur Development Authority directed
11:41the demolition of 38 of the university's 40 buildings,
11:45alleging that they had been constructed without approved plans
11:48under the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act.
11:53I'm going straight across to Munish Pandey for more details on that story.
11:57Munish, talk to us about what the investigators by far have found since this is an ongoing case.
12:04Well, Sneha, you rightly pointed out the enforcement directorate is investigating Azam Khan
12:10and the premises linked to him since 2019.
12:13Remember, in 2019 also, EDI had launched a case against Azam Khan.
12:18The university linked to him and the trust linked to him.
12:21And at that point of time, enforcement directorate even went on to question Azam Khan
12:25in connection with this case.
12:27Now, the new searches, as far as Azam Khan is concerned,
12:31are in connection with the public money, the government money being diverted
12:35for the assets of Zohar University, which is connected to Azam Khan.
12:40As of now, the enforcement directorate is claiming that during the searches,
12:43they have found enough concrete evidence on the said allegations.
12:48But as far as this case is concerned, Sneha, remember, this will also take a political turn
12:53because UP will be going for elections.
12:56Azam Khan is a prominent political face in the state.
12:59And now with the EDI searches against Azam Khan, again, it will take a political turn.
13:06But as far as EDI is concerned, they are claiming that based on evidence,
13:09they are conducting these searches.
13:11There are overall 10 premises in Rampur, Saharanpur, and in Delhi,
13:16which are being searched as we speak, Sneha.
13:18I'm going to thank you, Munish Pandey, with the very latest on that story,
13:21tracking the EDI for us and telling us about how things are only getting
13:25more and more difficult for Azam Khan.
13:28And this assumes a lot of significance viewers.
13:30Like Munish pointed out, Azam Khan is a key face of the Samajwadi party,
13:34though has had a fallout with Achilles Yadav.
13:36But remember, this is a state, Uttar Pradesh is a state that goes to polls next year.
13:43We're shifting focus, viewers, at this point in time,
13:45telling you about Maharashtra's food safety crackdown,
13:48which only is intensifying with the state FDA suspending licenses
13:53of six establishments in Mumbai over hygiene and food safety violations.
13:58From Bandra's Auto Club, it's well-known, to a Zepto dog store in Shempoor,
14:04regulators have flagged off some serious lapses,
14:07including the use of prohibited analog paneer.
14:11It's been banned in Maharashtra.
14:12This action has received backing from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as well.
14:16But the crackdown has also faced legal scrutiny with the Bombay High Court,
14:21ordering the FDA to pay 5 lakh rupees to a pune sweets shop over a license suspension.
14:27Here's the report.
14:35The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration has stepped up its crackdown against food villains.
14:44Tukara Munde-led Maharashtra FDA has suspended the licenses of six hotels,
14:50restaurants and other food establishments in Mumbai over food safety violations
14:55and cleanliness and hygiene issues.
15:00The most prominent of the six establishments is the Auto's Club in Bandra,
15:05where FDA inspectors reportedly found multiple hygiene and food safety shortcomings.
15:13Regulators also found that the club was serving analog paneer
15:16that was recently prohibited across the state.
15:22The FDA also suspended the license of a Zepto Dark store in Chambur
15:27after inspectors found significant storage and hygiene deficiencies.
15:34Prince of Ways restaurant in Khar,
15:36Cafe Sifarish in Andheri East
15:38and Daily Fresh Bakers and Cakes in Dahisar
15:41are also among the establishments facing action.
15:46The FDA's crackdown has received backing
15:49from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
15:52Fadnavis has praised the FDA action
15:55and said that strict measures will continue
15:57against those violating food safety regulations.

16:50for banned Paan Masala with a Bolo Zuban Kesari tagline and has asked the actors to respond within 15 days.
17:03Maharashtra FDA Chief Tukaram Mundi has warned that legal action could follow if the responses are found unsatisfactory.
17:13The charges are in the first stage until 10,000,000 people will be in the first stage.
17:15If there is no case, then it will be in the first place as an act.

18:42What's on the radar really of the FDA next?
18:55Tukaramunde has come here for a meeting with the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra.
19:12He also met CM Devendra Fadnaves in the early afternoon today.
19:17And it's not just surrogate ads, it's not just adulterated food, but the crackdown is going to extend to many
19:27more things in the coming days is what we can sense.
19:31But right now, the issue which was noticed to the celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Tiger Shroff and Ajay Dehugan
19:39on 11th of August,
19:40now we've learned that 15 days extension has been given and 30 days will now be given them to reply
19:49and they are awaiting response from their legal team.
19:52Meanwhile, Tukaramunde, the Commissioner of FDA has categorically, he has said that as much as 10 lakh rupees fine will
20:05be levied upon to these actors if they do not comply.
20:09I want to come to that because that is a grey area, isn't it?
20:12Given the fact that advertisements for products which don't contain tobacco or alcohol is something that is allowed.
20:19These are surrogate ads at the end of the day for which notices have been issued.
20:23But I have a different question.
20:25It's got more to do with the jurisdiction issue when it comes to the state FDA.
20:29This does fall within the view of the Consumer Affairs Ministry and also the Union Health Ministry.
20:35We've seen these ads continue over a period of time.
20:38It happened in 2025 as well when Health Ministry had to write to IPL saying that paan masala ads which
20:46are surrogate ads can't be played when the matches are on as far as IPL is concerned.
20:51But we've seen the loopholes and the manner in which the advertisers escape, isn't it?
20:59Yes, absolutely.
21:00And for that very reason, BJP MLA Vikram Pasapute, who is also the complainant in this issue, has now extended
21:11and he has shot a letter to FSSAI, that is Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
21:17And he has appealed and he has demanded in his new letter that such surrogate ads, they are not just
21:25surrogate, but they are also misleading ads is what he is mentioning in his letter.
21:29And he is demanding that these ads should be banned across the nation.
21:36Absolutely, these ads should be banned.
21:38But what can the government really do at this point in time, given the kind of loopholes that we just
21:42mentioned about promoting these products?
21:44These products that are technically not banned or technically they are not something that fall within the purview of the
21:50rules.
21:50It's not alcohol or tobacco that is being promoted, but other products that, of course, distinctly remind us of the
21:56brand name.

22:06While the Maharashtra FDA cracks down on restaurants, violating food safety standards, cases are surfacing from Bihar and Gujarat.
22:16There are very serious questions.

22:23in Surat.
22:25These, in fact, these midday meal, in fact, in Nalanda in Bihar or a midday meal really in Bihar and

26:05Where 40 children fell ill after being served detergent powder instead of salt in their midday meal.
26:13A teacher said the children rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe stomach pain.
26:17Many of them had started to throw up.
26:19The detergent and salt containers are reportedly kept side by side, leading to this bizarre, callous mix-up.
26:28The incident raises serious questions over negligence in food safety at a school.
26:33This was a school where midday meals was being given.
26:36Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar later met the students at the hospital and said they were being monitored.
26:43He has directed the hospital to ensure proper treatment and assured strict action against those responsible.

29:21and withdrawn the 100% claims from their products and advertisements.
29:25Below listed FBOs have removed the 100% claims and these viewers are products
29:32that have been named by the FSSAI.

29:44When it comes to what we are eating, this is a popular brand, viewers.
29:48This is Mustard Chop Foods Private Limited and also Apples India.
29:52Essentially, the kind of claims that is made in many of these products,
29:56for example, if you say you're 100% pure, you're 100% vegan,
30:02all of that is something that will not be allowed by the FSSAI.
30:07And hence, these orders have gone out to these products you see on your screens right now.

33:55But this is something that needs to be conveyed to them properly and in a language that they do understand.

34:48Well, the quickest way to erode any Gen Z goodwill is to start using it as a threat
34:53at the slightest perceived affront.
34:56According to reports, the woman was stuck near the Minimal checkpost in Draas
35:01after being stopped by local police.

37:02with tourists.

37:05has gone viral on social media.
37:06People are commenting on this,
37:08and also showing how,
37:09after Jantar Mantar,
37:11people in such situations
37:12are trying to invoke
37:13the Gen Z protests,
37:14and trying to galvanize
37:16support around them
37:17so that they can take on
37:19the authorities
37:19or any issue
37:20in which they are stuck.
37:22So, a bizarre video...

38:41to go for any such protests,
38:43considering that whatever
38:44was being done
38:45was for her own safety.

38:47The Gen Z analogy,
38:48really bizarre,
38:49and what a misfit,
38:50isn't it, Mir?
38:51That video,
38:52since it's gone viral,
38:53we have the chief minister
38:54responding to it also,
38:56and taking note of it.
38:58It's a video from July,
38:59is what Mir is telling us.
39:07Now, India is seeing
39:09increased cases of H1N1
39:12seasonal influenza activity,
39:14particularly,
39:15this is happening in Delhi,
39:16and some other cities as well,
39:18during the monsoon season.
39:20Now, if you look at the figures,
39:21which are regularly, viewers,
39:23updated by the NCDC,
39:25which is the National Center
39:26for Disease Control,
39:26and the latest figures
39:28indicate that from last year,
39:30it's a six-time increase
39:32in cases of H1N1,
39:34also known as swine flu.
39:36Delhi clearly is the current hotspot.
39:39NCDC data cited in recent reports,
39:41and the most recent,
39:43it says,
39:44there are 1,449 cases in Delhi.
39:46This is as of 12th of August,
39:47the latest.
39:48Now, last year,
39:49around this time,
39:49there were roughly around 200 cases.
39:52More than a six-fold increase,
39:54is what we are seeing.
39:55Doctors are reporting more patients
39:57with fever, cough, sore throat,
39:58body ache, and fatigue.
39:59Most influenza infections are mild,
40:02but some can progress to pneumonia
40:03or respiratory complications.
40:06Now, what really happened in Bengaluru
40:09was that 100 students felt sick,
40:11showing seasonal flu-like illnesses,
40:14which is very similar to what happens
40:15when there is H1N1.
40:17And there were cases of H1N1
40:20also confirmed during the staff members.
40:22This happened in Bengaluru's
40:24Clarence High School,
40:25which was closed for four days
40:27on the 14th of August to the 18th.
40:29Well, today,
40:30the school resumed with regular business.
40:32Health department says,
40:34there's not really an outbreak,
40:35but a common cold that is contagious.
40:37The situation came to light
40:38after several students and staff members
40:41began complaining of cough, cold, fatigue,
40:43fever over the last few days.
40:45Following the confirmation of H1N1 cases,
40:48the school management suspended physical classes
40:50and continued lessons online
40:52to prevent the possible spread of the infection.
40:54Of course, we know that H1N1
40:57is a seasonal influenza virus.
40:59But to tell our viewers,
41:01this was the same virus
41:03that had caused a pandemic
41:05way back in the year 2009.
41:08Influenza transmission can increase
41:10during particular seasonal conditions.
41:12Monsoon weather, crowding,
41:14indoor gatherings can contribute to transmission.
41:16So we do see a spike in winter season as well.
41:19So let's tell you a little about the vaccine.
41:22Now, outside of India, there is this tradition.
41:25A lot of people go in for a flu vaccine,
41:28influenza vaccine.
41:29It's a seasonal shot.
41:30And we need to take it year after year.
41:34H1N1 is one of the influenza A viruses
41:37that can circulate as part of a seasonal influenza.
41:41So if you're asking us about protection against H1N1,
41:44it comes through the seasonal influenza vaccine,
41:48whose composition is updated periodically
41:50based on surveillance of circulating viruses
41:53because they change their form.
41:55So if you get a vaccine one year,
41:57you need to get it again next year
41:59because the virus's form has changed.
42:02This is what is recommended
42:04by the World Health Organization.
42:06Unwell influenza vaccination,
42:08particularly for people at increased risk
42:10of severe disease.
42:12Influenza viruses continually evolve,
42:14but protection from vaccination also decreases over time,
42:18which is why vaccination is to be repeated annually.
42:22For those asking,
42:23why do we need to take the vaccine year after year?
42:26That's the reason.

42:34from the city of Bengaluru.
42:36And the reason why we are connecting with you, Naga,
42:37is because apart from Delhi,
42:39in Bengaluru, we did see a bit of a scare,
42:42but we are getting the numbers accurate
42:44and absolutely right.
42:45And there is no increase in numbers,
42:48so to speak, to make this sensational.
42:50You have told us there are about 100 children
42:52who showed flu-like symptoms.
42:54And if it is a precautionary measure by the school
42:57to close it down,
42:58given that H1N1 is highly contagious, isn't it?
43:01And children are vulnerable.
43:05Well, absolutely.
43:06Well, absolutely, Sneha.
43:07You put it right with that.
43:08We are not trying to scare people,
43:10or it's not an alarming situation.
43:12The weather also has changed in Bengaluru.
43:14Absolutely.
43:15Because in the night,
43:16it gets too cold in the morning.

43:21The seasonal flu spread across the city.

43:33When the children started to show flu-like symptoms,
43:36the school themselves took a
43:37Suomotor decision to shut down for four days,
43:40August 14th to August 18th,
43:41so that the children also can recover
43:43and get the blood test done.
43:45Luckily, none of them have proven to have
43:48H1N1 virus in them,
43:49except for the two staff members.
43:51They are also recovering is what we are told.
43:53So, for the luck of the children,
43:55all of them turned out to be flu-like symptoms
43:57and they've also recovered.
43:59The school reopened today,
44:01but, however,
44:02the health department has asked all the citizens
44:04to be aware of the symptoms
44:06and ensure that if you are having the symptoms,
44:08isolate yourself and people for regular life
44:11who are leading,
44:12wash your hands, wear masks,
44:14can be diligent about your etiquettes and manners
44:17as to how you do,
44:18how you conduct yourself in public.
44:20Absolutely.
44:21Certainly a word of advice that if your child is unwell,
44:24not to send the child to school.
44:25I think this is an advisory that came to all of us
44:27living in the National Capital Region as well.

44:38He's a pediatrician
44:39and he has been looking into several of these cases.
44:44Dr. Bagai, thank you for your time.
44:46I'm going to begin by asking you,
44:48H1N1 seems to be causing,
44:50and I have seen this,
44:51severe illnesses in some people,
44:53maybe in children is what we've seen,
44:55in elderly,
44:56but mild symptoms in others.
44:59So, what really is going on here?
45:01Dr. Bagai.
45:03By and large,
45:05H1N1 influenza is a mild,
45:07self-limiting infection,
45:09if your immunity is good.
45:11But in children less than the age group of 5,
45:13or elderly is more than 65,
45:15or with low morbidities,
45:17such as hypertension, diabetes,
45:19cardiac disease, kidney disease,
45:20or immunosuppressant therapy,
45:22the disease can take a more severe nature,
45:25in which you can even have a viral pneumonia,
45:27or super-added bacterial infection.
45:30So, when is it that this flu becomes a medical emergency?
45:33Because it's so widespread,
45:35so everybody wants to know,
45:36when does one really, you know,
45:38look at it as an emergency sort of a situation?
45:42So, H1N1 influenza type A,
45:45which we call as the common flu,
45:47is graded in category A, B, and C.
45:51C is the most severe grade,
45:52and in this severe grade,
45:54it's basically when you have respiratory distress,
45:58breathlessness, low saturation,
46:00or an abnormal hypertension,
46:03or a low pulse rate,
46:05in which you are unable to breathe,
46:07or if you have excessive amount of abdominal pain,
46:10in which you have loose motion, vomiting,
46:12or any other symptoms from multi-organ involvement.
46:15This warrants immediate medical care.
46:18You know, many people ask this question,
46:21since you are required to be away from work and school.
46:23So, how long is someone with H1N1 actively contagious,
46:27given that this is highly contagious?
46:31Yeah, so the incubation period of H1N1 is anywhere between 4 to 5 days,
46:35but you are infectious one day before you manifest symptoms,
46:38and for 7 to 8 days during the course of illness.
46:42So, safely you should take a period of 8 to 10 days in which you are infectious.
46:45Also note that this is a respiratory virus spread through microaerosols,
46:49and this aerosol through coughing or sneezing can spread up to 6 feet to 7 feet,
46:54that's beyond 2 meters,
46:55and it can remain, this virus can remain dormant on surfaces,
46:58even up to 8 to 12 hours.
47:01You know, a lot of people dread this and ask,
47:04you know, why should we take the vaccine?
47:05I want to ask you, who should be taking the vaccine,
47:09and should we not take this year after year?
47:12What are your thoughts?
47:14So, the flu vaccine is extremely good.
47:16It's very safe.
47:17It's an inactivated influenza vaccine.
47:20It's beginning to be given from 6 months of age right after geriatric.
47:25As an initiation, we give 2 doses one month apart,
47:28and then it's an annual shot.
47:30It gives a vaccine efficacy anywhere between 75 to 85%.
47:33But it gives you a prevention of hospitalization and severe disease more than 80%.
47:39Extremely useful.
47:41Absolutely recommended.
47:44So, here's the situation.
47:45I get H1N1.
47:47Do I get it again?
47:48Do I get it more than once?
47:49Is that possible?
47:50The same year?
47:51The next year?
47:51How does this really work?
47:53Yeah.
47:54So, H1N1 can be infecting human beings more than once.
47:59There is no long-term, lifelong immunity to it.
48:02You generally have an immune response which lasts for a few months.
48:05Okay.
48:06So, it is still recommended that in spite of you having H1N1,
48:09a vaccine is still recommended.
48:11Okay.
48:11Vaccine, still recommended.
48:12My question again about why do we see that children, particularly in older adults,
48:18are becoming more vulnerable to the complications?
48:20For many others, they sort of sail through, isn't it?
48:23I mean, they are unwell, but complications seem to worsen in elderly and kids.
48:28Why?
48:30Yeah.
48:30So, children and adults more than 65 or immunocompromised are more vulnerable
48:35because your immunity is still developing or is low,
48:39in which your B-cell and T-cell response, that means your antibody
48:42and your cellular response is weaker than normal adults.
48:47And tell us, doctor, about precautions that families should be taking
48:51when a member tests positive.
48:55So, we follow simple rules, rules of personal hygiene and washing,
49:00keeping safe distance, and the person who is infected must wear a mask,
49:04isolation for at least four to seven days away from other family members,
49:08especially if you have elderly at home.
49:11Okay.
49:12Sounds like COVID-19 as well because it is a virus at the end of the day.
49:15You know, when is it really safe then to return to school or work after H1N1?
49:20Doctor.
49:22Manifested symptoms, I think about eight to ten days should be a sufficient period,
49:26especially for children because they are going to go back in clusters,
49:29in playgrounds or in creches.
49:31So, about eight to ten days post influenza should be a safe period to go back to school.
49:36Dr. Bagai, I'm going to thank you for joining in and sharing your thoughts with us.
49:39And important pointers to remember, if at all there is a case of H1N1 in your family,
49:44what are the precautions to be taken?
49:46And yes, the vaccine is for everyone.
