00:00And in terms of whether he plays, how much, or any of the starters,
00:04have you all had that conversation?
00:05Have you made a decision on that yet?
00:06No, no decision yet, but we'll go through today and then tomorrow,
00:11and then we'll head on to those after we see kind of the health of everybody
00:14and where we're at.
00:15But he's throwing a really good camp.
00:17I'm very pleased with what I've seen from him.
00:21New system, owning it, being in charge of it.
00:24So he's off to a hell of a start.
00:27Dan Quinn earlier this morning answering the question about starters
00:30and Jaden in the preseason game Saturday against Detroit.
00:36I would bet you they have a pretty good sense of what they're going to do,
00:39but he's not saying it yet, yet.
00:41The team has a growing list of injuries, banged-up players.
00:48I saw Nicky put the whole list together and put it out.
00:51But, you know, the more recent are Johnny Newton and then Jordan McGee, Jerome Ford.
01:00But the list is long.
01:01I'll go through it here soon.
01:04Obviously, the most devastating by far in terms of long-term
01:07is the triceps injury to Laramie Tunsil.
01:12So Quinn had a lot to say, as he talked before.
01:17What today was a padded practice, yesterday was not a padded practice.
01:24And I suggested yesterday, after we played the Quinn soundbite,
01:29talking about, you know, would he be okay if Jaden didn't play in a preseason game?
01:33And he said, yes, he'd be okay.
01:36Because they're getting these padded practices.
01:38Because they've got another joint practice.
01:40Well, yesterday, for whatever reason, there wasn't a padded practice.
01:43I don't know if that'll end up driving a decision to play Jaden in the starters.
01:48But this was Quinn on sort of factoring the padded practices
01:53in with the preseason game decisions for starters.
01:59And you obviously talked about a competitive camp throughout.
02:02For some of the starters, today will be like the first time in full pad
02:06since the joint practice.
02:07How have you kind of factored in the practices with the preseason games
02:11in order to determine the level of physicality?
02:14Has anything changed, I guess, over the course of camp?
02:16Can you repeat the last part, Ben?
02:17Sorry.
02:18Has anything changed over the course of camp in terms of the planning with the physicality?
02:21Oh, no.
02:22Okay, good question.
02:23It hasn't been a change of plan.
02:24So, like, going into it, you wanted to make sure where could we put those practices
02:29to have the highest, you know, return for that space.
02:32So, the joints are obviously one, today's one, earlier ones to go.
02:36And so, each of those practices features a little bit more line of scrimmage work
02:40and not the loose downs of second and longs and third downs.
02:45But actually, like today, we have a short yardage period that's that type of emphasis.
02:50So, when I lay it all out, you kind of look to those days
02:54and then make the specific emphasis for it.
02:59I don't even know what he said.
03:02I mean, it's the first time I've listened to that answer.
03:04I'm not even sure he really answered Ben's question.
03:06Ben's question was a good question.
03:08You know, basically, he's referred to that these padded practices,
03:14the joint practices, we'll see how those go, you know,
03:17before making a decision on the preseason games.
03:19But I don't think he really answered that question to go.
03:26I don't think I got anything out of it.
03:28Did you get anything out of that answer, Max?
03:30No, a lot of it was kind of dancing around and repeating a lot of the same stuff
03:33he said in the past.
03:35Okay.
03:36You know what?
03:37When it comes to who's going to play in these preseason games,
03:39we'll probably find out Saturday at about 10.30, 11 a.m.
03:43Game starts at noon when we get some sort of list of players who aren't dressing.
03:49And then we'll probably know.
03:51Maybe we'll know tomorrow.
03:52I don't know.
03:54But so Quinn was asked about, you know, the growing list of injured players,
03:59and he gave an update on a few of them.
04:01Can we get an update on some of the guys who weren't out there?
04:03Yes, I think it was Odafe, Calevon, Jordan, and then Johnny Newton.
04:07Sure.
04:08Let's start with Calevon.
04:10So he injured his knee in the joint practice.
04:14Not significant, but we are being smart in that spot.
04:17Johnny Newton injured his peck during the game.
04:20He's currently in New York, seeing a specialist there.
04:23So I'll give you an update tomorrow after, you know, their meeting.
04:28O.A. has a strained calf, kind of the early phase of that.
04:31We're, again, just being smart there.
04:34Jordan McGee, I think, was the other one you asked about.
04:36Injured his shoulder in the game.
04:38We'll hold him out this week.
04:40But nothing that's going to, like, linger into, you know, the season or any of that.
04:48The Newton thing's interesting, right?
04:51I mean, he didn't appear to have made a significant positive mark in his play,
04:58and now it appears that he's unhealthy with a peck injury.
05:01There was a follow-up question, I think, from John about Johnny Newton's peck
05:06and the long-term concern about it.
05:08Like a long-term concern for Johnny?
05:11It could be.
05:12I'll have an update today about, you know, like any time I go see a specialist,
05:16you know, with a peck.
05:17So it could be.
05:19Okay.
05:20So, you know, we're now talking about, you know, Tim Settle's banged up.
05:25Now, apparently, there's some good news on him.
05:27Johnny Newton, Owe, Chason, a lot of players banged up on defense right now.
05:34Am I forgetting any?
05:35Settle.
05:36He's coming back, I think.
05:37Newton might be more serious.
05:40Owe, Chason, Jordan McGee.
05:42We know that Trey Amos, you know, has had the ankle, and that's, you know,
05:47getting to be a bit of a concern, perhaps.
05:52So a lot of the players who are expecting something are banged up.
05:56Typical at training camp.
05:58I'm not getting overly alarmed about it.
05:59You know, you don't want a Tunsil situation with anybody else, and hopefully there won't
06:05be a Tunsil situation with anybody else.
06:08This was Quinn earlier this morning talking about just the entire team as a whole and what
06:16stands out so far.
06:17Hey, Coach.
06:19Good morning.
06:19Three weeks into training camp, second preseason game.
06:23Where do you see this team overall as a whole?
06:26What do you like that's standing out, and what are some things that you feel that you want
06:31to see?
06:32Yep.
06:32So I'll first start off with the things that are standing out.
06:35I like the competitive makeup of the training camp practices that the guys have had.
06:40Don, I thought they've really pushed it against one another.
06:43So, like, even in a practice like yesterday when I highlighted the film, there was one-on-ones
06:47from O-line to running backs to linebackers, you know, down to the wide receivers and corners
06:53of the red zone.
06:54So I like the situational football that the guys have done.
06:57You'll see some more of that today on some two-minute and four-minute at the end of the game.
07:01So those would be two of the things that I'm pleased with.
07:05And then the things that I want to see cleaned up is, like, pre-snap mistakes.
07:09You know, we've had ball starts, you know, in practice.
07:12We've had them in the game.
07:13I'm just talking specifically to offense.
07:15Defensively, kind of the same thing.
07:16Like, communication has to be on point.
07:18It's every single play.
07:19So those are the things I'd like to see get rid of, some of the self-inflicted penalty, you know,
07:25and those ones.
07:26I recognize, like, when you're moving fast, mistakes will happen.
07:29But those pre-snap ones, like, we've got to get rid of that.
07:34Yeah.
07:35Pre-snap penalties are self-inflicted.
07:38And sometimes, definitely, when you get to the regular season, pre-snap penalties, I think,
07:44as fans, it's one of those things we see as coaching.
07:49Like, they weren't prepared.
07:51They're not holding these players that continue to do it over and over again, you know,
07:56accountable enough.
07:57I think that's one of those things when, as a fan, and we're not always right,
08:02we're probably wrong much more than we are right, but when you start talking about teams,
08:06you're like, they're just poorly coached.
08:07They're not, they don't look.
08:09False start penalties, you know, encroachment, offsides penalties,
08:14penalties, the lack of discipline when it comes to those kinds of penalties appears to be something
08:21that can be coached up.
08:24So, let's, you know, I think last year, didn't Connerly, I'm pretty sure Connerly was among
08:31the league leaders in false start penalties in the league.
08:35It wasn't Tunsil.
08:36Tunsil was at that, was at the top of the list when he was in Houston for false starts.
08:42It was a big problem with him, but I think last year, let me go to the penalty list by
08:51penalty, false start.
08:53Washington had the most, 33 total.
08:55They had the most false starts in the league?
08:5733 total, 160 yards lost.
09:01Trying to find the player.
09:03Yeah, I see that for false starts, but I think it was Connerly that led the way.
09:07Am I right?
09:11Am I right?
09:12Um, yeah, this is right now by team.
09:14We, I need, I need it by players.
09:17Uh, I'll find it.
09:20I will definitely find it.
09:21But, but.
09:22Josh Connerly had nine last year.
09:24He did not lead the league.
09:25Was that, was that the top?
09:26He did not lead the league.
09:28Uh, Latham, uh, in Tennessee had the most with 13.
09:32Okay.
09:32But was Connerly like top five?
09:34No, not top five, but he's still, nine is still up there.
09:38The most, nine's a lot.
09:39The most was 13.
09:41So for reference, that's kind of, he was towards the top.
09:45Right.
09:46Uh, and Tunsil actually had a much better year for false starts compared to his previous years.
09:55Pretty sure.
09:56Oh, my apologies.
09:57He had seven holding penalties and six false starts.
10:01That is what, that's the breakdown I'm looking at right now.
10:04Sorry.
10:04So seven, seven total.
10:07Wait, say, so yet we're losing people here.
10:10Um, I'm looking at, I finally have it.
10:13I've got the false start count.
10:14So, um, Latham, as you said, 13, then, uh, 12, 11.
10:20So that's tied for fourth.
10:22Um, oh, by count.
10:25Yeah.
10:26He's, he's seventh.
10:28He, or he's tied for seventh.
10:29He's seventh in the NFL last year with nine false starts.
10:33But what else did you say about him penalty wise?
10:35So if you look to the right, cause I assume we're looking at the same chart, it, there's
10:38going to be this little tab that says offensive holding seven, I'll start six.
10:44Yeah.
10:44I'm not looking at that one.
10:45I've got to pull it up by penalty.
10:47It's okay.
10:51Um, offensive holding.
10:53It's by team now.
10:54So, all right, let's, let's move on.
10:57Uh, you gotta, you gotta be buttoned up.
11:00You can't lead the league in false starts.
11:02You can't do that.
11:04Um, especially with two games on the road to start the season.
11:07Those are drive killers, penalties.
11:10Sacks are number one in drive killers.
11:14Penalties are number two other than turnovers, obviously.
11:18Uh, he talked about Jaden Daniels today and what specifically he's seen from Jaden.
11:25There's, I think this question gets asked every other day, but let's hear what he said today.
11:30Hey, good morning, coach.
11:31Good morning.
11:32Um, you've brought up Jaden Daniels in the, in the camp that he's having, um, so far.
11:37So can you just share, I mean, this is year three with you all together.
11:40Just what have you really specifically seen from him in this camp that, I mean, I know,
11:45of course, he's year three in the NFL, but yeah.
11:50Um, I love that he's decisive, you know, as a quarterback, um, he's got like a unique
11:55ability to put the ball in the right location.
11:57And so not just to like a, what's his completion percentage, but like, what's the accuracy.
12:02And that's even above the completion percentage or could have been a drop or something, but
12:06it was in the right location.
12:07So I like that he's in a system that he is now at the line of scrimmage working more things.
12:13And so that might be the biggest difference candy between, you know, the last couple of
12:18years and this year is like him at the line of scrimmage and working through.
12:22So, um, he's done a good job with cadence.
12:25That's not something that we, you know, we've done here before.
12:27So those are a few of the things that don't show up on the stat sheet that he's doing
12:31a really good job with.
12:34They seem to be really happy with Jaden Daniels camp so far.
12:38Everybody seems to be really happy with that, which is good.
12:41Um, we won't know until they actually play a game, how it manifests itself.
12:49I'd love to see him under center a few times on Saturday.
12:52I don't know that we're going to see that.
