00:01Hi, Coach. Ken McGuire from AP. Since Jaden is here, what do you foresee as a foreseeable timeline for him
00:11to return to play?
00:15And just for total clarity, is Marcus definitely the starter on Sunday?
00:19Yeah, so as we're getting started for this week, today is a little bit limited, so we're going to call
00:24it a jog-through for us,
00:25and so he would be limited in that spot. But as we're working through the week, he'll get more reps
00:30as we're going to go.
00:32So it's part of our return to play process, where guys individual, that's kind of the limited portion,
00:39and then some of the team reps, and then more. So as we get into Thursday and Friday, we'll see
00:43what that load looks like.
00:46And then by Friday, we'll have a definite determination of where we're at.
00:49But until then, we'll work and start the process, but it'd be too early to call it.
00:54But he's not ruled out. He's got a shot to play on Sunday, Jaden.
00:57Yep.
00:59Okay. That was Quinn being asked directly about whether or not Jaden would start or whether Mariota would start.
01:08So it sounds like they're going to take this to Friday.
01:12Listening to Quinn answer that, my immediate reaction, because it's the first time I've heard it,
01:19is that Marcus Mariota is going to start on Sunday.
01:22Anyway, there's video of Jaden with the brace on his elbow.
01:27Nicky Javala, I just reposted it. You can go to add Kevin Sheehan, DC.
01:32He's taking a snap from Nick Allegretti. It is a walkthrough.
01:37And he's got a big old, you know, looks a little bit, I guess, clunkier than I thought it would
01:43look on his left arm.
01:45But the video is him taking a snap under center and, you know, kind of play-actioning with his right
01:54hand
01:55and then coming back and trying to extend the left hand and the left arm.
02:00Well, there are two of them, actually. There are a couple of snaps.
02:03And one of them is him coming back and stretching it out with his left arm.
02:06It's very much a walkthrough.
02:09But, look, the bottom line is he's going to play and he's going to play soon.
02:13It's just whether or not it's going to be this week or next week.
02:16That's what I would think at this point.
02:19But I think if they had a really strong feeling about Jaden playing, that we will know that by tomorrow.
02:28If we hear we're waiting until Friday tomorrow, and by the way, tomorrow, the league is conducting these pressers this
02:36week.
02:36So the normal schedule, I think, still applies.
02:40So tomorrow's coordinators.
02:42But I don't know if Quinn speaks tomorrow.
02:44He may speak tomorrow because of these international press conference setups for the week.
02:49I forget how it worked last year in Madrid.
02:54But, you know, these coaches during, you know, playoff weeks or certainly Super Bowl weeks or international weeks,
02:59it's a bit of a different schedule.
03:01So I'll check on that.
03:03I'll find out from Ben, who actually I think is flying over there right now.
03:10But he said not until Friday.
03:12My guess, what did you, did you hear anything?
03:15My guess would be on Friday we're going to hear that Marcus Mariota is going to start and Jaden's been
03:21ruled out.
03:23If Jaden is the backup, I don't understand that.
03:26To me, that's the one scenario that doesn't make any sense to me.
03:30If he's actually ready to play football, he starts.
03:33If he's not ready to play football, he sits.
03:37And the rookie from Rutgers is the backup, like he was last week.
03:41And we move on to the next week when they get back.
03:44I feel like it's a genuinely fluid situation right now.
03:47With the videos that I'm watching of Jaden going through drills and stuff like that, I mean, it is a
03:50walkthrough day.
03:51We'll kind of see how, you know, he takes into it a little bit more as the week rolls on.
03:55But I could see him.
03:57I could see him getting out there on Sunday, especially if he really.
04:02My point is, if he's going to get out there on Sunday, he's getting out there as the starter.
04:07Yeah.
04:07No, I think you're absolutely hitting the nail on the head there.
04:11I mean, does anybody else, does anybody disagree with me?
04:16301-230-0980, 301-230-0980.
04:20What would be the point of Jaden being the backup on Sunday?
04:26That would mean, by definition, he's healthy enough to play football.
04:31If he's healthy enough to play football, he plays football as the starter.
04:35Because guess what?
04:36He is the starting quarterback for this franchise.
04:40And I would love it if he were healthy, cleared, and ready to go Sunday.
04:44I don't want to see two or three weeks go by before he plays again.
04:49I don't want the rust factor to kick in or any of that.
04:54He looked really good down the stretch against Philadelphia in the opener.
04:59He was phenomenal against Dallas before the injury.
05:03And we're only a week and a half removed from that.
05:07We'll be two weeks removed from that.
05:09It's like a bye week.
05:10You're coming off a bye week.
05:14He's healthy.
05:15He plays.
05:17He starts.
05:18If he's not, and he's not cleared, then he sits.
05:21He's ruled out.
05:24That's how I would see it.
05:25You're not putting him into a game as a backup if he's not quite there yet to be a starter.
05:37301-230-0980.
05:39I guess the simple question is, does Jaden on Sunday being the backup quarterback make any sense to you?
05:47It doesn't make any sense to me, but I'm open to any thought that is, you know, different than that.
05:57You're either cleared or you're not cleared.
05:59Period.
06:00If he's cleared, he's the starting quarterback.
06:03Marcus played great last week.
06:04It's exactly what you want out of Marcus Mariota.
06:06You know, you want him to be able to come in in a spot and play when the starter is
06:12out.
06:15There were a couple of other sound bites from Quinn.
06:19This was Quinn on what he was expecting from Jaden in practice this week.
06:25Yes, and today will be more in a jog format, but if it had been a full practice, it would
06:29have been limited.
06:31And, in fact, everybody will be in that same space with one exception.
06:34Rashad White's still dealing with his shoulder.
06:36It's still banging, so he needs more treatment and time and rehab on it,
06:39so we'll have a better assessment for him as we get through for the week.
06:42But everyone else is either full or limited in some variety,
06:46so it's good to have more of the crew back on the field.
06:54Actually, what I took out of that sound bite was basically Rashad White might be out Sunday.
07:00We'll see how that rolls through, but they've just signed Austin Eckler.
07:04You know, I was talking to Ben yesterday.
07:07We were talking about the Austin Eckler signing.
07:10We did that on Monday's show as well.
07:13You know, Ben's, like, confused.
07:16Apparently, a lot of people are like, I don't get it.
07:19Why was he signed by the team?
07:22You know, they got Bill.
07:24They got Rashad White, who's played two really good football games in a row.
07:27They like Catron.
07:28Why?
07:29Here's the why.
07:31Because he's better than all of those other players.
07:34Because Austin Eckler, healthy, and they obviously believe he's healthy
07:39and is still Austin Eckler as a football player.
07:42Because Austin Eckler, from two years ago, and I know it's two years ago,
07:46but I don't think they sign him back unless they think they can get the Austin Eckler
07:50of two years ago or from the very beginning of last year.
07:54It's because he's better than those players.
07:56It's not that hard, right?
07:58He's better than Rashad White.
08:00He's better than Kroski Merritt.
08:01He's better than Catron Allen.
08:04Remember, they worked him even with Brian Robinson Jr.
08:07They worked him into first-down carries at times.
08:11He's incredibly versatile.
08:13If you're getting that player, that Austin Eckler,
08:18and they believe that physically he's there, they signed him to the 53,
08:22and they believe he's ready to roll and be Austin Eckler,
08:25if he is Austin Eckler from two years ago, he's definitely their best running back.
08:32So that's why they signed him.
08:35And so I would expect that unless he isn't ready to take on the playbook
08:41or the system or whatever, if he's got all that, he probably is going to play,
08:46and maybe a lot on Sunday, especially if Rashad White can't go or isn't healthy.
08:52But does anybody disagree with me on that?
08:55Like, if you're getting Austin Eckler from 2024, he's your best running back.
09:01First down back, third down back, doesn't matter.
09:04He's better than Bill.
09:05He's better than Rashad White.
09:07He's better than Catron Allen as far as we know at this point.
09:11And he gives you one of those, you know, extra dynamic kind of playmakers.
09:17Not with great speed, but he is elusive, man.
09:20He's always been that.
09:21I mean, he makes people miss as a runner or as a pass catcher.
09:28They were at their best in 2024 with Austin Eckler on the field.
09:33And so if they think they're getting that Austin Eckler back,
09:37then they're doing it because they wanted to upgrade the running back room.
09:45One more from Quinn.
09:48This was Quinn on Jaden returning.
09:52Oh, if the return is more of a pain tolerance thing.
09:56Listen to the question because this is the first time I'm hearing it too.
09:59Mitch Fishler, Running Mental Sports.
10:00With Jaden, is it more about kind of pain tolerance with him
10:04or comfort with whatever the apparatus is that he's going to have on his elbow?
10:08Yeah, I think the first part is the functionality and the strength.
10:10So the pain tolerance for him, he already has the high one into that space.
10:15So it's more with this specific injury, the functionality, the strength.
10:19And once we get to that space, then we can go.
10:22But part of returning to practice is a piece of that.
10:25And so as he's going in today, it's limited.
10:28And then we'll get more reps as the week goes.
10:30But it's really all kind of encompassing into it.
10:35Okay.
10:37Man, I hope things go so well today, tomorrow, and on Friday
10:42that it's like no doubt in their mind.
10:45He's good.
10:46Doctors cleared him.
10:47He looks good.
10:48The brace doesn't look like it's, you know, bothering him.
10:52Let's get him out there against the Colts.
10:54By the way, are they wearing their alt blacks?
10:56Because that's what they're practicing in.
10:58Is that what they're wearing Sunday?
10:59I think the alt blacks are their quarterback jerseys for practice.
11:04Got it.
11:05Do you know what they're wearing Sunday?
11:07I don't think they've announced it yet.
11:08Well, they do.
11:09They announce it before the season starts.
11:14Not the specific combination, like with the pants and stuff.
11:17But it's a home game, so they will be wearing burgundy is my assumption.
11:21No, they gave the whole schedule of uniforms for the season.
11:26I'll find it out.
11:27All right.
11:28Phone lines open.
11:29301-230-0980.
11:31If, does it make any sense for Jaden Daniels to be the backup quarterback Sunday?
11:37What is it?
11:39It's burgundy.
11:39I'm looking at the schedule.
11:41And what's, what, what pants?
11:43White?
11:44Unspecified.
11:45I would hope white, though.
11:47All right.
11:49Does it make any sense to anybody, because it doesn't to me, that Jaden Daniels would
11:55be the backup to Marcus Mariota on Sunday?
11:57301-230-0980.
12:00301-230-0980.
12:02And because we haven't talked about Austin Eckler, if you want to weigh in on what I just
12:06said, to me, the reason they signed him is because they believe he can be, he can be
12:12Austin Eckler from 2024.
12:14And if he is, he'd be the best running back in the running back room, period.
12:19That's why you do it.
12:20Because it's an upgrade at a position where you could use an upgrade.
