00:00Former Meta Platform's engineering director Arturo Behar testifies that CEO Mark Zuckerberg
00:06prioritized growth and engagement over child safety on Facebook and Instagram. Behar makes
00:11the allegation during his second day of testimony in a major trial over claims that could affect
00:16Facebook and Instagram. Different states accuse Meta of designing its platforms to keep young
00:21users engaged, contributing to anxiety, depression, and suicide. They also accuse the company of
00:26illegally collecting and using the personal data of children aged under 13 while they used its
00:31platforms. Behar disputes Zuckerberg's claim from October 2021 that Meta constantly used research to
00:38improve its products. This was after whistleblower Frances Haugen claimed that Meta knew its products
00:43were unsafe for children. Haugen also said that Meta knew how to make its platform safer but chose
00:49not to do so to protect profits. Behar now says, quote, it's so false, every part of it. You just
00:55cannot trust Mark Zuckerberg with kids.
