00:00Is there a team, Bill, let's say, starting with maybe Penn State at 18, SMU 19, Tennessee 20, Utah, Iowa,
00:09Houston, Louisville, Missouri, round out the top 25, and then anyone after that?
00:13Clemson, by the way, missed getting the top 25 by five points for five votes just outside.
00:22They were the 26th team. But is there a team, Bill, that isn't in that top 25 that you think
00:28will end up in the top 10 and in the playoffs?
00:31Maybe not national champions like Indiana, but a team that you could see coming from the back of the pack.
00:36Well, I mean, probably not is the easy answer.
00:41Now, a team that could maybe go out of that 18 to 25, I'm just trying to spot a couple
00:46teams that could make the playoff.
00:48I mean, Penn State, we're going to be talking about in November because of that schedule.
00:52I just and it's going to be distracting from the actual football team if Matt Campbell gets them going and
00:59they get to 10 wins and they're able to get into the playoff as maybe that fourth Big Ten team
01:03in.
01:04You know, I'm really curious about SMU this year. Can they get back to the college football playoff?
01:09They bet on, you know, the old phrase, betting on yourself.
01:14They did that and they won, you know, by going to the ACC and becoming an immediate contender.
01:19And they do have money and resources in Dallas for SMU.
01:23And it feels like, Bobby, Kevin Jennings has been a quarterback there forever, it feels like, back.
01:28And they have another talented team coming back.
01:31So that's a team that I don't know, maybe it's a time for them to make a push in the
01:36ACC to challenge not only Miami, they beat Miami last year.
01:41So they're a team to watch, in my opinion.
01:44Yeah, I think SMU and Louisville, I believe they play each other week three or very early on in the
01:49season.
01:49I have that circled.
01:50If one of them can go on a run and then, who knows, maybe upset Miami in the ACC championship,
01:54I feel like that could be one of those teams outside the top 20 that get in.
01:58Then, of course, I think at that point, Miami, they'd still get in maybe at like a 10-2, 11
02:03-1.
02:03So that's a team I think outside of the top 20 could get in based off that, probably Louisville or
02:08SMU.
02:09Yeah, Louisville's another sleeper I like.
02:11Now, they get an up close there in Nashville on a Sunday in week one when they're playing Ole Miss.
02:17So, you know, that's a big game for the ACC perception-wise.
02:22And I do like their roster around Keene Holtz, the two running backs, the defense, and Jeff Brom.
02:28But that league needs a couple of those in non-conference because then it bolsters the playoff case.
02:37Because remember, what they did last year, there was some thought that, was it going to be Duke?
02:42Was it going to be Virginia?
02:43The confusing tiebreaker, the fights with Notre Dame.
02:47It's a really interesting year for the ACC coming out this year.
02:50Yeah, it really is.
02:52It's ACC to see if they can make a push, get something done, and being able to, you know, get
02:58back in that mix, Bill.
03:00Because it's, you know, it seems like they have some other teams outside of Miami.
03:05I mean, Clemson's falling off.
03:07SMU touched about.
03:08I mean, is Louisville a team in your mind that you look at that you think with Brian, with Brom,
03:14that they could get something done and maybe make a push?
03:17Yeah, they've been one of my favorite sleepers all offseason, you know, SMU or Louisville.
03:23And, you know, either one of those teams can maybe make that run.
03:28Now, you've got to get to 10 wins.
03:29You're not treated the same as a 10-win Big Ten team.
03:32There's no question.
03:33So, 10-win SMU probably isn't getting the same treatment as a 10-win Penn State.
03:38Or if Washington could get to 10 wins, the Huskies are another interesting sleeper to me,
03:44especially with DeMond Williams at quarterback.
03:46It's just there in the crowded house of the Big Ten where it's going to be hard to push through.
03:51So, those are a couple.
03:52I mean, out of the Big 12, I was talking about this yesterday.
03:54I'm starting to talk myself.
03:56I like Houston.
03:57And I've liked them all offseason around what Willie Fritz is doing.
04:01A couple teams off the radar.
04:03Kansas State with Colin Kline and Avery Johnson.
04:06And then Arizona with Noah Fafita.
04:08There's another quarterback, Bob, that's played a ton of football.
04:12You look at his career touchdown passes.
04:14He got hot a couple years ago, remember, and still playing.
04:18So, they're like off.
04:20I don't think those teams can make a run to the national title.
04:23But I could see Kansas State or Arizona being a little bit of a party crasher in the Big 12.
