00:22worth of Canadian goods. Carney says his country is in a full-on war with the U.S. when it

00:27to all things trade and vowed to match Trump dollar for dollar. Last week trade talks between
00:32the two nations spectacularly broke down following Trump's threat to slap the nation with new
00:36massive tariffs in the new year on things like auto parts, cars, trucks, steel imports, even beer,
00:42cheese and hockey sticks. Venting on Truth Social the president said quote Canada has been ripping
00:47off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our farmers and farm
00:51products has made life impossible for these great American patriots and has long created
00:56a $60 billion deficit between our two countries. But the continued disturbance of the formerly
01:01chummy trade relationship between the U.S. and Canada is just the tip of the iceberg.
01:06The bigger threat may be one made by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who suggested he could cut
01:11off electricity and critical minerals to the U.S. In an interview with the AP, Ford explained that
01:16Ontario, his country's most populous province, powers 1.5 million homes and businesses stateside.
01:22And when it comes to holding Washington's feet to the fire, he added quote,
01:25everything's on the table. I'll do whatever it takes.
01:28We're going to fight with everything we have. And you know something, I have more courage,
01:33more brains in my baby toe than he has in his whole body.
01:36There could be some merit to this strategic geopolitical chess move too. Critical minerals
01:40are a crucial part of national security used in things like missiles, munitions and military
01:45aircraft. The Pentagon has even recently tried to secure additional sources of minerals to reduce
01:49U.S. reliance on China. Trump didn't take too kindly to a threat like that and suggested a name
01:55change to one of the Great Lakes in response. Taking to Truth Social, he wrote, the United States
01:59is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we
02:04don't expect to be doing much business with Ontario any longer. Now, this isn't an idle threat either,
02:09considering on his first day back in office for a second term, Trump signed an executive order
02:12renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. There is another side to the trade war that may
02:17prove impactful here in the U.S. Republican lawmakers in Washington could be fighting an
02:21uphill battle with their constituents during the midterms as a result of the president's trade spat,
02:26putting pivotal Senate races in Michigan, Maine, Ohio and Alaska on potentially shakier ground,
02:32all of which have significant trade with Canada. Representative Susan Collins of Maine,
02:36whose race is already a bit of a cluster with her Democratic rival Graham Plattner's fall from grace,
02:40changing the field significantly, expressed concerns about ratcheting up the trade war with Canada
02:45with the election near months away. Unfortunately for Collins and her concerned cohorts,
02:50the president promised to respond to Canada's retaliatory tariffs in kind, or in his words,
02:55far worse, meaning this may only be the beginning.
