00:51started the show with this daryl he's actually running down your name now so he doesn't forget
00:55all right actually let's get to the bottom of this uh what feels like the most realistic way
01:00the season goes now that we know the presumptive starters here in cleveland well i i'm probably
01:08dropping the win total down the five be just because i i just i don't have a lot of faith
01:13in deshaun watson as far as what he's going to be able to give them physically on a football field
01:17um it's not an effort thing it's just it's it's an ability thing for me i don't know that he
01:23has a
01:23whole lot left in the tank uh to give but he won this competition todd munkin uh feels he's the
01:31better player between him and shadour sanders and at least week one and early in the season gives them
01:38the better chance to put points on the scoreboard move the football in and win games so um pretty
01:45significant decision made by todd munkin the first real big one uh as brown's head coach he's going with
01:51deshaun watson and we'll see if watson uh who hasn't looked great in training camp or the preseason
01:58can go out there and validate that decision that was made so that implies daryl that you think he's
02:03got a pretty long leash not the longest leash obviously but longer than two weeks like it feels
02:07like uh some people believe and so yeah so nick thinks two weeks i i think actually i've said eight
02:12weeks uh i i feel like the browns are going to need and it is not what i would do

02:17the browns are going to do and that distinction is important and especially with your answer as
02:21well same thing it's not what you would do it's what we think the browns will do i think they

02:26unquestioned i think they did they need to know with certainty deshaun watson in 2020 isn't going
02:30through that door and the way they've talked about him and believe in him i think that takes him eight
02:34weeks to settle on that act i'm gonna go six weeks okay i'm gonna go through the october 18th game
02:40at home against the baltimore ravens okay hey you one dollar bobbed him that that give well that
02:46gives you um it gives you three home games uh the panthers stealers and ravens you've got the jets in
02:55there who aren't going to be very good uh obviously everyone's looking at week two and has that circled
03:01including baker mayfield the buccaneers game in tampa bay leading off with jacksonville there so i think
03:06week six is where um or i should say after week six because the following game is october 25th
03:14against the tennessee titans and i think that might be an opportunity although it's on the road might be
03:19a little bit of an opportunity for shador sanders there to start on a positive foot before heading
03:24to pittsburgh uh to begin the month of november but um i i hear the two-week audition thing i
03:31understand
03:31where people are coming from especially given the reaction uh to deshaun watson saturday afternoon
03:38the awful play um and i i'm gonna tell you i don't think that the browns are phased by the
03:46booing
03:47deshaun might be his teammates might be but i think organizationally uh i don't think that they're phased
03:55by the booing i think that the browns have accepted that to a degree fans are going to boo deshaun
04:01watson no matter what i i i think if he plays well i think the booze will obviously be a
04:06lot less
04:07but um yeah i just that's why i say six weeks i don't think it's going to be a two
04:13-week tryout
04:14all right daryl i know you said five wins i'm going to leave this open for you i am challenging

04:22communicate with them individually i'm challenging every single person on the staff here that does a
04:29daily show to give me their lock it in number today are you willing to lock it in at five

04:36or would you like another week to go ahead and get to a point where maybe you get a little

04:40from the deshaun thing maybe a week from now you say six wins yeah i i i'll take the extra

04:47that's fair because my original my original thought on the the win total was take the over of the five

04:54a half and they'd be in the six to eight week range just i i don't have a lot of
04:58faith right
04:59now in deshaun watson and why i just it'd be because of what i've seen in practice that's why
05:05well but they say he gives them the best chance to win and he's been better quarterback they wouldn't
05:09lie about that sort of thing daryl well um i don't know i this is going to get me in
05:15hot water
05:15with a fan base but i'm going to do it anyway um you know what what does that say about
05:21where
05:21sanders is right now he's not ready clearly because i think if he was ready i think todd
05:26munkin wouldn't hesitate to put him out there remember todd munkin's waited this long to get
05:31a head coaching job and i don't think he's messing around with uh narratives or anything other than
05:38what is going to help him win because and he's acknowledged this this might be his only head
05:43coaching job in the national football league he's not concerned about doing things that he has to
05:48explain in future job interviews to try and get another head coaching job so i think that that
05:53gives him a little bit of uh freedom and i think there's a little liberation mixed in there for him
05:59um to to have that thought so um yeah i just yeah i need a week to think about it
06:07um maybe i'm still
06:09caught up in that deshaun's gonna be the quarterback thing and i know what i've seen in training camp and
06:13i'm just not all that blown away but um yeah i um right now i kind of feel like i
06:20want to take a win
06:21off the board because he's the uh the week one starter so just based off of what you've seen in
06:26all the training camp that you have seen and obviously there's things behind closed doors but
06:29based off of just what you've seen with your own eyes who do you think has been the better quarterback
06:33between the two well i i think shador sanders has made more plays in training camp than deshaun has i
06:42i think
06:42shador sanders brings um an explosive element to the offense than deshaun does um and i i'll give
06:55shador credit and i also give todd munkin some credit for admitting this uh munkin basically said
07:01i'm paraphrasing here this isn't an exact quote but he basically said you know deshaun was the leader
07:06all throughout but credit shador sanders for making this thing a competition in recent weeks and and
07:11making it a a close call or a close decision or however he phrased that and so um i i
07:20think that
07:21it'll be incumbent upon shador to understand we're going to see him this year and he needs to make
07:29sure that he continues this positive progression that he has had i'm actually in favor of playing
07:36him tomorrow night if we're going to sit here and say he needs experience he needs reps the more reps
07:42the better uh like then i don't understand why we have to suffer through dylan gabriel tomorrow night
07:50like what is there honestly to be gained from that you know why can't you put shador out there for
07:57a
07:57quarter at least to give him a couple of offensive series and and whatnot um so uh but they're not
08:05going
08:05to do it it it's it's going to be uh dylan gabriel i'm guessing for the first half and then
08:10uh we'll
08:11get the rookie tail and green in the second half but i honestly would play shador tomorrow night to
08:16give him some more valuable reps what'd you make of all the changes today uh getting rid of the pro
08:21bowl and and and some of the uh rules changes with the amount of uh hits that they're trying to
08:26get out
08:27of the game and yeah the penalties that come forth with that yeah hallelujah on the pro ball uh because
08:31that just became useless um and i i actually the the one thing i like in the rule changes if
08:38you have
08:38one infraction it uh of an illegal you know illegal hit that you get fined for they will return your
08:46fine to you at the end of the season it's it you know they what they're trying to do is
08:51they're
08:51trying to go after the habitual offenders but i actually like that little wrinkle that they put in
08:57that rule that okay if you get if you you get fined for one of those hits and that that's
09:02it for the
09:03entire season we'll give you your fine back at the end of the year you will give you that that
09:07one off
09:08oops accident whatever i actually like that little wrinkle i just think how safe can we make football
09:14it is football no i i i get it and and there isn't an obviously there's an inherent risk of
09:20injury when
09:21you play the sport that's why you're wearing all the the equipment that you're wearing when you're out
09:25there and look i'm i i seeing the older players and some of the troubles that they're having the
09:32difficulties they have moving around and and whatnot i get it i understand the importance of uh maximizing
09:41player safety or emphasizing i should say player safety uh but but when we're trying to uh legislate
09:49the players trying to defy the laws of physics in a millisecond decision like you know you can have
10:00accidental violent hits i mean that's the sport and and so um you know i think it makes it a
10:08little more
10:09uh difficult and they're even going to be paying more attention to those uh type of things you know
10:16the hip drop tackle uh the horse collar launching the defensive the defenseless player the blind side
10:25block those are going to be the points of emphasis and um you know i i think that i think
10:32that's going
10:33to be in some respects tough to legislate in in real time and um you know with the hip drop
10:40tackle i kind
10:40of like them you know that's a that was a reviewable thing where you know they look at it later
10:46and and
10:47send the fine out or whatever but um you know i again i get you're trying to prevent as many
10:53injuries
10:54as possible you're trying to make the sport as safe as possible but it is a violent sport and it
11:02is a
11:02collision sport and um i i do think it makes life pretty difficult on defensive players all right
