00:00We head out to the Wise Heart Right. We make it right. Call Kyle Wright Hotline. He'll be on with
00:05us at the start of every week here during football season. You know him, you love him. Cleveland.com's
00:11and 92.3 The Fan's very own Lance Reisland joining us now. Lance, welcome to the show.
00:16Hey, morning. Afternoon, guys. How are we? We're doing all right there. I guess we can start
00:22with, it was something that Todd Munkin said today where he talked about Jerry Judy being
00:28moved from the X receiver to the Y receiver. And his point was he doesn't necessarily look
00:35at the X receiver as necessarily a number one receiver and that this was about Denzel Boston
00:42and Jerry Judy's fit together. What did you make of that answer? How do you kind of respond
00:47to that methodology and thought process? Well, it kind of matches what Todd Munkin
00:52wants to do on offense. So obviously Denzel Boston has really been good and he uses his
00:57length. Everything that we thought said Taylor was going to be, that's kind of what Denzel
01:00Boston has turned into. So you talk about a guy who's on the outside, really good in
01:05the red zone, comebacks, curls, middle of the field, really big catch radius. So those
01:10kind of things, he is like when most people think of a number one, that's what they think
01:14of, especially in a traditional offense. Now in this Munkin offense, I really like the
01:17idea of moving Jerry Judy around. They have a little bit more balance on offense. So Munkin's
01:22going to try to find matchups for all these guys. And I think that's important
01:26for Jerry Judy. There's a couple of things that excite me a little bit about Jerry Judy.
01:29One is he's not the primary guy right now. And he, I think he, I think he thrives in
01:35that role a little bit better than being the alpha by himself. So I think he'll do much
01:39better because he's going to get, he's not going to get the coverage. He's not going
01:43to get the number one corner. Most likely he's not going to get rotations to him. So
01:47the idea that if you don't have men, they actually can move them. You can put them where
01:50you need to go. And I still think he can play outside if necessary, but yeah, I like
01:54the move and it kind of ties into what a coach wants to do offensively.
01:57Hi coach. You read every practice, you'd every preseason game. You saw it all. You heard
02:01us talking about for you, not only not making the 53 man roster now, not making the 16 practice
02:06squad invite list as well either. So why is the, the big question for those listening
02:11out there at home?
02:12Well, you know what, I'm a, I'm disappointed. He's not in the practice squad. And because
02:16I thought he, he really did produce and he was really good. This is back-to-back camps.
02:21He'd been very, very good. Now I would say as a football coach, and obviously I don't speak
02:25for them, but if I had to say why he didn't make the team is, you know, he's a slot
02:29receiver
02:30and they have Casey Conception and they have Isaiah Bond, who they kind of have done their
02:34motions with movements with. And then Corley's been a guy who's done that. Corley's also been
02:39a guy who's been outside. So I think the limitations of where he plays and how much
02:44he can play really hurts, uh, Floria in this, making this final roster. And obviously, you
02:50know, he, once again, he's just a guy, he doesn't fit the mold. Uh, some guys are just
02:54really good football players. Uh, and that's what you saw to Floria, but his inability to
02:58cover kicks, uh, return kicks, return punts, things like that. I think, uh, that would be
03:03my thought process. That was why he didn't make the team. The idea that he's not back in
03:07the practice squad, uh, you know, it hurts, it hurts a little bit because he's been so
03:10productive. He's a local kid. And, uh, you know, obviously he's a guy I wish the best
03:14for. He was awesome to watch practice every day. So, uh, that would be my call, JP, just
03:19the limitations of what he can do and where he can help the football team being the sixth
03:23receiver on the team. I know we're not quite to prepping for the regular season yet.
03:28We have this week and then obviously next week we'll be getting ready for the Jacksonville
03:31game, but, uh, the Browns have made a big case of what they think the offense can be
03:37with Deshaun Watson. And that's part of why he's the starter week one, uh, whether it's
03:43defining the identity or what we should look for, for this offense, what, what are kind
03:48of the, what's the raw clay we should expect from a Deshaun Watson led Browns offense?
03:54Well, you're going to get regardless of who the quarterback is. If you go back to Georgia,
03:57go back to his Ravens dates, they're going to establish a run. And I've really liked
04:01from the Chicago, uh, game, how much that run game has improved. And you can see guys
04:07getting off double teams and you can see guys getting to the second level and they're doing
04:10so many things with both the gap and zone scheme. That's the first thing that, um, sticks
04:14out to me. Uh, now with, with Deshaun Watson, it's going to be the pre-snap stuff and everybody,
04:19uh, you know, everybody has their different thoughts about operation, but really what it comes
04:22down to is getting them into the right play and getting them into the right play, whether
04:26it be a run play, a change of protection, or maybe something they've seen on film where
04:30they get a matchup. And that, that would be my third thing is that they're going to find
04:34matchups that are, uh, when you have balance on offense, you know, if a team is going to
04:38play nickel, they're going to run the ball more with Judkins. If a team is going to play
04:41three regular linebackers, then who's the matchup with Fannin? If they're going to double
04:46on the outside, who's the matchup with Fannin? If they double Fannin, you know, who are you
04:50going to have, uh, on Concepcion and Boston and Judy and Bond? So I think the idea of finding
04:57matchups established in the run and then having that QB run game, uh, especially, uh, on third
05:02and medium is going to be very important because it allows you to, you know, pick up some, even
05:06if you're not scoring points early on, you can flip the field, play good defense and be in the
05:10game later. I think that's, for me, that's the reason why he's starting is because it gives
05:14him a chance to win late in games, uh, right now, at least Browns as of this moment, uh,
05:20just have Barnett, McGuire and verse as far as their defensive ends. Uh, what do you make
05:24of that roster construction? Well, you know, last couple of days I was out there, JP, they
05:28had a Michael Hall playing out there a little bit. And for me, I think that's important because
05:32he's a guy that can give you more pass rush. The thing I liked about Barnett pickup is his
05:37ability to stop the run on first down. I think what teams are going to try to do is they're
05:41against this Browns front and against this aggressive Rutenberg defense. They're
05:44going to try to win first down because if you don't win first down and you're second
05:4810, then Rutenberg can kind of get creative and they have a lot of guys that can really
05:52get after a passer, you know, even down to, you know, obviously we've got Mason Graham
05:56and Malik Collins and, uh, Isaiah McGuire, but guys like Aiden Huntington and Mike Hall,
06:00these guys can really rush the passer. So how you eliminate that is making it second down
06:04and medium because then runner pass is still available to you. So, um, I think he'll be,
06:09I think Mike Hall will be out there on second, third down a lot more than he'll be out
06:13there on first down. Uh, and Barnett gives you a chance to win on first down. Cause he's
06:16pretty good against the run. Coach, if we said, look forward to 18 NFL regular season
06:23weeks into the future, who would you say is going to be the Browns leading receiver in
06:272026? I'm going to say Casey Concepcion. And I don't, I don't think he's necessarily
06:33going to, if we're just talking pure numbers, Nick, I'm going to go with him because he's
06:36a guy that, you know, as an offensive coordinator, he's that get out of jail free card.
06:40What I mean by that is that if you throw a curl or a vertical router, some of these things
06:44you have to throw, everybody has to be right on offense. You have to pass protect. You have
06:48to have a good throw. You have to have a lot of moving parts work. Well, Casey is a guy
06:52that you don't need much for just flip it out to him. Let him get his own yards. Even if
06:56you look at the jet sweep where he, not the touchdown, but the one later in the game,
06:59we just got seven yards. So just the idea that not everything has to be perfect for him to
07:04be successful. I think he'll get a lot of touches behind the line of scrimmage. I think he'll
07:07get a lot of option routes, RPOs on those little slants, hitches, things like that.
07:12And then obviously he, once again, he's just their true touch guy. So I see him as having
07:16the most numbers and I see the most impactful guy being whoever has the best matchup. That's
07:21kind of what this Munkin thing is all about. So you're going to see different guys week to
07:25week lead in a number of receptions for sure.
07:28What's his beef online between you and Nick about Casey Concepcion? What's going on? He says
07:32you're going after him.
07:33What's your deal?
07:34What's your deal?
07:34It's funny how social media works. It was just more of a question, but then it got people
07:39thought of it more as a beef. I was just kind of a question because he's been very, very
07:45good. And the point is that he's got to do it in games. That's a very fair point. For
07:50me, it's the idea that he has come in from day one and he's a natural catcher of the football.
07:56And for me, that means it was concentration more than it was like fighting football. And
08:01we've all seen those guys who fight the football, right? Schwartz was the guy you fight the
08:04football and he doesn't fight it. He catches it naturally. He just got to make sure he
08:08looks it in first. So, um, no, no beef. Uh, you know, just, uh, I got to make sure that,
08:14you know, you got to be very clear what you say on social media. Things take it, people
08:17take it differently. As you guys know, I just thought we were boys and then Padone is cheering
08:21you on to fight me. Oh yeah. Cause he's still upset that I called him out for flip-flopping.
08:27Oh, I thought he was upset. Cause you call him the padidler. Oh, but no, I, I think
08:31he liked that. Oh, okay. That's a little, we are boys. So yeah, that's, I made sure I
08:36put that one out there too. People try to make that happen. No, we're boys. They're, they're
08:39stuck with us for sure. All right. We appreciate you coach. We'll talk to you next week. Thanks
08:43coach. Absolutely guys. See you guys soon. Lance Reisland, who I'm beefing with on the
08:46wise heart. Right. We make it right. Call Kyle. Right. Hotline.
