00:00We head out to the Wiseheart, right? We make it right. Call Kyle Wright Hotline and welcome on
00:03Cleveland.com and 92.3 The Fan's very own Lance Reisland. Coach Riz, what's up, buddy?
00:09What's going on, guys? Happy Monday to you both.
00:11Happy Browns Victory Monday to you as well.
00:15Now, we've heard people say, fine, okay, we've had it on the other side of the spectrum.
00:20Great performances by Deshaun. What word or words would you use to define Deshaun Watson's play
00:26in the Browns' win of the Buccaneers yesterday?
00:30I'm not going to give you one word, but they won. That's the most important thing.
00:33But he was very good. He was solid, and he was efficient, and he protected the football.
00:37And it's okay to think about just that game and leading up to it.
00:42And as I stated the week before, I did not think he played that poorly.
00:46And, you know, your teammates have impact on you when you play poorly,
00:50and your teammates have impact on you when you play really well.
00:53If you think about, like, he made a really great throw to Boston on that bang-eight route
00:57where Boston broke a tackle.
00:58But he made a good throw, but that was mostly Boston.
01:01And, you know, so, like, those things happen, but that's football.
01:03And I just think, you know, if you stay kind of even keel, you don't get too high,
01:09you don't get too low.
01:10It's kind of that emotional kind of thing as a head coach and a quarterback
01:13and a coordinator.
01:15There's going to be good and bad.
01:16You can't get too high, can't get too low.
01:17So, and once again, same thing as I said last week, you know, whether you played well or
01:22not, you enjoy it a little bit or you reflect a little bit, you fix it, you flush it, and
01:26you move on.
01:27Now they're on to the next.
01:28But he played very, very well.
01:29I mean, he was 24 for 30.
01:30Fannin dropped one.
01:31Boston dropped one.
01:33Judy dropped.
01:34Judy fell down on an out.
01:35I mean, so you're talking he could have been 27 for 30.
01:37But again, a lot of, you know, the guys made plays for him too, and they pass protected
01:41pretty well, and they played pretty good defense, and they punted well.
01:45It all ties in.
01:46Too much credit, too much blame.
01:47But I thought he played very, very well.
01:50And, you know, once again, flush it and get ready for the next.
01:52How much longer did Deshaun buy himself with this performance?
01:57Well, I don't think, you know, I'm not, once again, JP, you know, I don't really, I
02:00don't really like time elements.
02:01I just thought if you're talking about improvement, the one thing I liked is I thought he
02:05anticipated very well.
02:06His drops were much better.
02:09The idea of getting the ball out quickly, getting the ball to playmaker's hands.
02:13One of my favorite plays today was just a little bubble screen to Casey Concepcion because
02:17he got nine yards, and no one had to do anything.
02:20And those are such important things.
02:22You know, he throws a simple, like, deep, skinny post on that bang eight, and Boston
02:25takes a huge run.
02:27You know, he throws an out route to Fannin.
02:28You know, he did some things that were, you know, you expect an NFL quarterback to do.
02:34So, once again, I think winning has to be important, and you want to, you know, you want
02:38to continue to continuously see improvement in all the operation stuff and the momentum
02:44and making sure you're getting your team into the right play, et cetera, et cetera.
02:47So, you know, one of the things I heard today was, you know, Boston saying he, you know,
02:51he alerted into that play.
02:52That's great because you're seeing coverage and you feel confident.
02:55And when you call the play, you really feel confident because you're seeing it clearly
03:00in front of you.
03:01So, yeah, I thought, once again, I don't know how long it lasts, but hopefully he plays
03:05this week and they're focused on the task at hand, which is, you know, Wednesday's practice,
03:09to be honest with you.
03:10So, you hate time elements.
03:12Does that mean you hate watches?
03:15No, I love watches, actually.
03:16But I don't like, I don't like putting it, you know, when you say, like, it's like the
03:20report JP and I were talking about before the game that he was, this is a very important
03:24How you're spinning this into a real answer is beyond me.
03:26And also, you're stripped of being Patrick Mahomes of Sports Talk Radio with that question.
03:29That was, that was a very, wow, coach, you really took a hit there.
03:33Kenneth Walker.
03:33Yeah.
03:34That's all right.
03:35Listen, I'm not, I'm not stressed at all.
03:37I mean, I will, the time element thing is, you know, the thing I always hear time, how
03:40much, well, how long is the leash?
03:42How long does he have?
03:43Those things are, to be honest with you, absurd to me.
03:46Those things are crazy to me.
03:48Go, go, you played well, flush it, get back to practice on Wednesday and try to do it
03:52again.
03:53And if you go in, if you played that game and you played bad, I don't know the, like the
03:57leash
03:57thing, you're just, you know, there's got to come an element where you enjoy the win.
04:01You don't overlook it.
04:02He's not in the Hall of Fame.
04:03He's played poorly since he got here.
04:04All those things still apply.
04:06They won a football game and he played pretty well.
04:09Let's see what happens next Sunday.
04:10And let's see, more importantly, let's get ready on Wednesday.
04:13That would be my thought process.
04:14Seems like he doesn't like restraints more, right?
04:17Maybe not into whips and chains and such things.
04:19That seems more like.
04:20He's not an FMA guy.
04:21I got you.
04:22I got you.
04:22There we go.
04:24Finally, now we're getting to it, coach.
04:26That's how we celebrate a victory Monday.
04:28All right.
04:29So one of the things that was a bit of a struggle yesterday was the run game.
04:33It hasn't been good the first two weeks here.
04:35What just happened?
04:35What's, what's the deal with the run game?
04:39What's the deal with the run game?
04:41I see how you did there too.
04:43Oh no, I did.
04:44I a hundred percent was.
04:46Oh geez.
04:47All right.
04:48So run game.
04:49So what I'm seeing in the run game, the first two weeks is you're seeing first and foremost,
04:52let's get back on track here.
04:54First and foremost, you're not seeing a lot of, uh, they're not moving people.
04:57So they're kind of, I look like it feels like they're feeling themselves out.
05:01Meaning like, am I on this double team?
05:03Instead of being confident that you're on this double team, they're just not blocking
05:06you very well or one guy's missing.
05:09And so like Zion Johnson is not playing at the level that I thought he played yet, but
05:13he's missing a lot of blockbacks when they're running their counter games.
05:16He's missing a lot of vertical movements on his double team.
05:19So it's closer than people think, but the bottom line is if all five guys don't do it
05:23right, I mean, there's a number of plays that I can send you where four guys do it pretty
05:27well.
05:28One doesn't.
05:28I might, you guys, uh, even listen.
05:32No, we're listening very closely as the problem.
05:35Well, and one does it.
05:36It's like, get your bleep together, buddy.
05:40Who's really helping here.
05:43Action happening coach.
05:44Uh, let me ask you, uh, all right.
05:49Uh, I don't know if we get back on track.
05:50What's your favorite run play?
05:52No, stop it.
05:53Stop it.
05:54Uh, a dot.
05:55Let's talk about that.
05:56Let's say, I know what he thought, what does it tell you?
05:58What does it tell you?
05:59The fact that Deshaun, uh, is a dot was under four is average depth of target.
06:02Uh, and he's taking a lot of what you call free lunches, but he's not stressing the field
06:06at all.
06:07And he's just kind of, uh, I think there's gotta be some concern.
06:10You, you can win in the, let's say one game against Tampa.
06:13Uh, you don't win long-term doing that.
06:17Yeah, I disagree.
06:18And here's why, because I saw him throw a bang eight at about 17 yards.
06:21I saw him throw a comeback on second down and 12 that got him to third down and two that
06:26got him to touchdown.
06:27I saw him throw multiple deep outs.
06:29And for me, it's about, it's not the yards per throw.
06:32It's a yards per throw on important throws, you know, second and long where you get it
06:36to a third medium or, uh, you know, you, you read the coverage and you throw it in
06:40the, it's so for me, I, once again, the numbers are important.
06:43And you look at them, but a lot of times taking a, in this style offense, taking a bubble
06:48screen is because they don't have the right numbers out there to cover it.
06:51And that's, that's important.
06:53Cause that could be an extended run game.
06:55Like, so for me, I added that one of the, the bubble screen, the Casey conception, that's
07:00on my run chart because that's an extended run play.
07:02You're throwing the ball four yards, five yards.
07:04And so for me, I think those numbers can be misleading at times.
07:07And especially in this offense, if you get the, if you get the offense into the right
07:11play, sometimes it's going to be a really short throw.
07:15It's just like the idea of the motion on the touchdown pass to Whitehart.
07:19That's the idea of what the play design was because the safeties got messed up and they
07:23didn't cover Whitehart because of the motion by Ryan and who had two and three.
07:28So there's so much involved in that stuff that the yards per attempt doesn't mean much
07:31to me if, if they're in the right football play.
07:35Sounds like we are dangerously close to a motion of the ocean kind of conversation here.
07:39Coach, great stuff as always.
07:42Happy victory Monday.
07:43Was it?
07:44I don't know if it was, was it?
07:45You mentioned motion a lot there.
07:47We got really happy here.
07:48Yeah.
07:48We got happy.
07:50It felt good.
07:51A little validated over here.
07:52Be good.
07:53Thank you, coach.
07:54Sounds good.
07:55Everything he said was just, it was just popping.
07:58Pop it off.
07:58I know.
07:59And it was not intentional.
08:01Once he started talking bang eights, we were all screwed here.
08:04We were just all, we all had a day.
08:06We should all dream so big on the Wisehart, right?
08:09We make it right.
08:10Call Kyle, right?
08:11Hotline.
