00:44Which brings us to the topic here.
00:46Something we asked in the 4 o'clock hour, and a Twitter poll was a little more even
00:50than we thought it would be.
00:52Who do you think is closer to the real Browns team?
00:55The Week 1 team that showed up against Jacksonville, or the Week 2 team that beat Tampa Bay?
01:01I think it's the Week 1 team.
01:05There you go with that optimism.
01:10Now, obviously the lame and easy answer is that it's somewhere in between.
01:15But if I had to say which one, I don't think they're as bad as the team that played Week
01:201,
01:20but I definitely don't think they're as good as a team that played Week 2.
01:23And I just, listen, I have been very positive for the last 24 hours about Deshaun Watson.
01:29He played a tremendous game.
01:30If you're being negative about his actual performance, it's unfair.
01:34He played well.
01:35Now, if you're being unrealistic and saying, wow, now he's going to, you know,
01:38he sucked for four years plus.
01:40Now all of a sudden we're going to believe one game means he's great?
01:43Well, he'll have a chance to prove it, but I'm not going to just buy it based on one game.
01:48But, yeah, my answer would be I'd have to stay closer to the team that played Week 1 than Week
01:532.
01:54But there is such a dramatic difference between the two.
01:57But I could argue that in Week 1 they were terrible the entire game,
02:01or at least the entire game when it mattered.
02:04Whereas Week 2 they were, you know, the defense was solid in the first half.
02:09The offense still stunk in the first half, but the offense was great in the second half.
02:13The whole team was great.
02:14From the 25, the final 25 minutes, the whole team played great.
02:17I hope it's closer to that, but I fear it's still closer to the Week 1.
02:23All right, so what kind of surprise was Deshaun's game to you then?
02:26And do you feel like we'll see that version of Deshaun again, or was that just a, that was a
02:31mirage?
02:34I, you know, it's, coming into this week, it was beyond shocking, Jonathan.
02:41Somebody, I was asked today, like, what, is this the most shocking win they've had
02:47since the Browns have come back?
02:49And I'm like, no, that's crazy.
02:50But it's one of the more shocking wins.
02:53Like, it's in the, probably the top 10, because how could, first of all, Deshaun Watson's
02:59been horrendous, absolutely horrendous for his entire time.
03:03He's been injured.
03:04He would, you couldn't really play worse than he played in Week 1.
03:08You're playing a team in Tampa Bay that you thought would be desperate coming off a loss.
03:12You're playing against Baker, who you thought really, you know, was going to be able to
03:16stick it to the Browns.
03:17And so for him to play that, that well, with all the, and who has more pressure, honestly,
03:23than him?
03:23Like, it might've been the last start of his career if he was terrible.
03:29And instead, he's at least for a couple of weeks, extended his career and maybe extended
03:34his starting career and given himself a chance to, to have more success.
03:40Do I feel like he's going to do it again?
03:43I, I, I think here's my honest answer.
03:47I think there's a chance he'll do it again.
03:49Part of me just wants to say no, because I didn't believe it before this week, but I'll
03:55say there's more bad games than good going forward, but I'm not going to rule out that
03:59he couldn't do it again because he did it against a team that may, you know, I think
04:04is at least mediocre.
04:06Adam, what do you make of the Browns very clearly letting any media member that has previously
04:13carried water for them know that Deshaun Watson could be on his last start and that they would
04:19be looking at changes after the first two weeks.
04:23And then he goes out there and plays, you know, well, and they get the win on Sunday.
04:28Like I just felt like a very sloppy, goofy weekend for the Browns in, in spite of what
04:33was a very nice win yesterday.
04:35Yeah, that was bad that that got out there in that way.
04:38It was just, it was, it was so strange, but you know, everything with the Browns is strange,
04:43including the, the, the, the son-in-law being down on the field to hug Deshaun Watson.
04:48I mean, that, that didn't look like a, a, an owner that was not ready to give up on Deshaun
04:53Watson.
04:53And it was like, he was his biggest fan.
04:55It was a little weird to me, but you know, was it the wet t-shirt?
04:59Is that what made it weird?
05:00It definitely made it weird.
05:00I thought it made a little sensual, but I just, I like, I love love.
05:04I actually think it helped the situation if there was, if it wasn't raining and he went
05:07up and hugged him right after, that might've made it even worse.
05:10But in, yeah, in the rain, it was, it was an emotional moment for both of them.
05:14I mean, cause nobody likes either one of them.
05:18So they have that together.
05:20Apparently, I don't know, but no, I mean, after everything that went that, and that's why
05:26I got to give Watson credit because he, like I said, everybody wanted him out.
05:31Everybody, except for apparently the son-in-law and maybe some of his teammates and the, and
05:37his head coach.
05:38And those guys showed some faith in him and he made it pay off for at least a week.
05:43How much did, yeah.
05:44It's hard not to be, in football, we're so often swayed by the last thing we see.
05:50Right.
05:50And, and so it's hard not to think, okay, maybe we've been wrong for the last two, three
05:56years.
05:57Maybe there is something still there, but I got to say that the body of work makes me
06:01think that's still not there.
06:03And I, I still think it's more likely that he's not the starter in a month than, than
06:08it is that he turns his career around, but you, you never know guys.
06:12I mean, you know, I agree with that.
06:15How much did he change the reception on Sunday?
06:18It's going to be something we talk about all throughout the week, I would imagine, but
06:20I want your first crack at it.
06:22Yeah.
06:23I think he changed it big time because ultimately, you know, like in the beginning of the year,
06:29we talked about this a couple of weeks ago, I was like, yeah, the Browns should, it's
06:32better off being the top seed in the draft, top to being number one, they should lose
06:36out.
06:36But you know, once the games start, no matter, even if you're rationally thinking, well,
06:41it's better if they're number one, so they can get a quarterback, blah, blah, blah.
06:44But in the season, we want our teams to win.
06:47And it gives us so much pleasure when our team plays well and other fans and other teams
06:52can't, and the media can't make fun of your team for at least a week.
06:56And so I think the, I think the fans, as much as so many of them loathe Deshaun Watson
07:03and deservedly so, I don't think he's going to get booed at least initially, like he was
07:09going to.
07:09Now, first mistake, a big one, the boos will reign.
07:14Turnover, couple of three and outs, it'll happen.
07:17But I think he'll get a reprieve at least at the start of the game.
07:23Um, you know, because fans, you know how everybody's prisoner of the moment.
07:28So many people are fans are now convincing themselves.
07:30Well, maybe we're good.
07:31Maybe he's good again.
07:32And if you boo, that doesn't help the team.
07:36So if you think the team's terrible and they have no chance and you want the backup quarterback,
07:40well, then you're going to boo.
07:41But after coming off a win and he played well, I just don't, I don't think the boos are going
07:48to be there.
07:49And that's ultimately better for the team, probably.
07:52All right, uh, Bull, we, um, I think we all agree.
07:56He bought himself a couple of weeks, uh, with the win over Tampa Bay.
08:00Let's say it goes out against Carolina and has a repeat performance in the Browns, uh, come
08:05out of that at two and one.
08:06And how much, how much more does it buy him than maybe just the next two weeks from the
08:11Tampa Bay game?
08:12Yeah, I think if he plays back to back good games, that is a, then we're, then we're,
08:20then we're having a more serious conversation about, okay, is it possible that we've all
08:25been wrong, all of us, and that there, that, that maybe there's that the coach was right.
08:31And that there's hope that, that this guy has found something now, let's not get, I
08:37don't want to get carried away now because he played good, but he, he, he, he didn't
08:41play like Houston to Sean Watson.
08:43He played a good, solid game.
08:44He made a lot of short throws.
08:46Obviously it was the lowest average yard of target in, in the league, but he threw four
08:52deep throws, hit three of them and made, and he made every throw in the final 20 minutes
08:56that he needed to make.
08:57So if he could do play at this level or even better again next week, then it becomes,
09:02starts to become a different conversation.
09:04And I think at that point, at least for a while, maybe he's not playing week to week,
09:10but again, I am not going to bet on that happening.
09:14I'm not ready to go there yet.
09:15An impressive part of this game for myself with Deshaun is he did it with no run game,
09:19which leads me to ask you about the run game.
09:21What do you make of Quinn Sean just not being able to get anything going now two weeks in
09:24a row?
09:25Yeah.
09:26Yeah.
09:26I mean, it's, it's a concern.
09:28You know, everybody said he had a great year.
09:30He's talented, but everybody said he had a great year last year and I just didn't see
09:34it.
09:35Like he showed some signs, but I didn't think he had a great year.
09:39And don't tell me, you know, for a rookie, for a rookie, it's not like a quarterback.
09:43I mean, running backs when they're great, usually are great right away.
09:47If they, as long as they have the opportunity.
09:49Uh, so, and in week one, I mean, this week, uh, you know, looking at the PFF run grades,
09:56they weren't very good.
09:57So maybe you give them a little bit for the offensive line, but they ran black fine last
10:01week.
10:02I don't know.
10:02I, at least some of it's gotta be on Judkins.
10:04It's been a little concerning.
10:06It's way too early for me.
10:08And remember, he is still coming off an injury from last year.
10:10I know it's not a knee or something like that, but there might, may be some time here, but
10:15yeah, he's been, I mean, he, he's been the biggest on the offense.
10:21Quinshawn Judkins has been the biggest disappointment for two weeks.
