00:00At least going into this week, you started to hear a lot of the conversations start up
00:04like legitimately about whether or not Deshaun Watson was actually a long-term option or
00:10even in a situation where, hey, we're not going to pay you $40 million, but we're going
00:15to give you some form of a two-year, three-year extension and maybe make it $30 million or
00:22something like that.
00:22I mean, again, at the end of the day, guys, he is still a quarterback and his agent, David
00:26Mulgetta, who has plenty of other players on the Browns, plenty of other players around
00:30the league.
00:31He's not going to just accept a major discount, a major haircut for Deshaun Watson.
00:39I mean, yeah, like today is a day where if I was to say, maybe we should sign Deshaun
00:44Watson past next season, I think a lot of people would be like, absolutely not.
00:48Despite the fact, again, if you look at the box score, 27 for 39, 324 yards, but again,
00:55like how much of that was garbage time, how much of that was the beginning of a good drive
01:00and then you shot yourself in the foot consistently.
01:03And that's the other thing that's very frustrating is that not so much too that you're watching
01:07the same game week in and week out.
01:08You're not fixing the issues of not starting well, of the offense being terrible early on.
01:13And it's also that they're still very, very heavily penalized.
01:19They had 85 penalty yards this game alone, and this team looked like they were moving
01:25in the right direction on not getting penalized.
01:28And how many drives today that I wish I need to start tallying these, how many drives are
01:33just completely washed away by a holding call, by a false start, an illegal motion, things
01:39that should be for the most part cleaned up by week eight.
01:43Yeah.
01:43You're still going to get caught for a holding and a legal motion here and there, but as consistent
01:47as it has been, I'm not seeing any improvement on that sense.
01:51You know, the game plan was very clear for the Steelers.
01:54The game plan was apply constant pressure to Sean Watson and force him to make plays because
01:59they know from seven weeks of tape prior to this game.
02:03And they know from the last time that they played them on that Thursday night, that the
02:07athleticism is not there for him to create plays like a Lamar Jackson or like Deshaun Watson
02:12of 2022 and before he is slow.
02:16He is not as athletic as he was before.
02:18And that's not like a knock.
02:20That's just where the player is right now.
02:22So if we get him off of his mark and we key in on rookies like Austin Barber and Spencer
02:27Fauno and Titus Howard, who is just not that good of an offensive lineman right now, we're
02:32going to get him off of his mark and he doesn't throw that well on the run.
02:35And the guys downfield that he's looking at are rookies, second year players.
02:39So they don't know how to consistently get open on scrambled drills.
02:42We're going to totally disrupt them.
02:44And if you pray on him, the other thing too, is like, it's not just the athleticism, you
02:50know, from watching the tape.
02:51And we know as Browns fans that Deshaun Watson holds onto the ball way too damn long.
02:56And whether it's his fault or the wide receivers were just not getting open in enough time,
03:00something is going wrong to where he's holding the ball and holding the ball.
03:04Remember the old thing is one, two, three, get rid of the ball.
03:07And there's a couple of other expletives in there that I'm not going to say, but it's
03:10one, two, three, get rid of the ball.
03:12And Deshaun Watson is not doing that.
03:14And the Steelers know that I thought they had a tremendous game plan against them.
03:17It's on the Browns.
03:18It's on Todd Munkin and your offensive coordinator to adjust and figure out how you put him and
03:23the rest of the offense in a better situation to move the ball down the field so that you
03:28don't get sacked eight damn times.
03:30How many times have I said, just, just hit the check down, just hit Harold Fannin in the flat,
03:35just get Quinshawn Junkins out wide on a little rub route.
03:38There are possibilities for these receivers to get open so that Deshaun isn't looking 90
03:44yards downfield at Denzel Boston, trying to beat a really good cornerback or Casey Concepcion
03:49trying to find his matchup over the middle, a place where Deshaun Watson either isn't that
03:54comfortable with throwing or he's just doesn't trust himself whatsoever, which is wild to
03:59say in week eight, you have to put him in a better situation to win.
04:03I know that Todd Munkin is coming from the Lamar Jackson style offense where we can have
04:10these long drawn out plays and whether it's, you know, uh, Isaiah likely one of the better
04:16tight ends in the league, or it's a flowers, one of the shiftiest wide receivers in the
04:20league, or it's the fact that Lamar Jackson is as athletic and has the best running ability
04:26of any quarterback in the league.
04:28It's not, you're not working with the same clientele.
04:31You have to adjust to the people that you have right now and who you have right now as a
04:37quarterback
04:37that doesn't trust his arm consistently, doesn't trust his eyes in the middle of the field,
04:44and that doesn't have the athleticism to run these types of plays where you're putting
04:48so much on him.
04:50I'm always, you know, put the sass on me.
04:53I, you know, I'm never going to tend to try to put it on the, on the guys up front.
04:57You know, they do have enough, uh, on their plate.
05:00You know, as a quarterback, you know, I, I'm the one that's controlling the ball.
05:02So if I can find check downs to throw it away as much as possible, you know, that's, that's
05:06what I, what I need to do.
05:08And, um, so, you know, again, sometimes I was trying to make big plays, you know, trying
05:12to extend plays cause that's what I do also.
05:14So, but I have to know the time and situation and where we at on the field to, you know,
05:19at least get us back to where we were, where we started instead of, you know, five, six,
05:22seven yards behind the line of scrimmage.
05:24So, um, yeah, of course I'm always take responsibility for those.
05:28Browns quarterback, Deshaun Watson taking responsibility for some of the eight sacks that he, uh, eight times
05:37that he was sacked today, uh, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
05:41Uh, again, Browns lose 27 to six over at Akersher stadium fall to five and three Deshaun Watson
05:49in the box score in the QBR.
05:51Some of these like easy, easy stats to digest and look at pretty damn good day, at least
05:56in the box score, 27 for 39, three, 24 yards.
06:00I genuinely have no idea how he got to 324 yards.
06:03Uh, you could have told me that he, no, there's no way like, I don't think you're right.
06:09I are, I'm looking at it right now.
06:11I've been saying it all show.
06:13So you haven't been calling me on it.
06:15Um, but I like, it just, it wasn't great.
06:19And again, not every single sack is on the quarterback and I just don't have the time
06:25checks.
06:26So I was right.
06:27I'm just, I, what?
06:29Yeah.
06:30When did that happen?
06:31That's what I was saying.
06:32I, I have all of my, I have pages of notes in front of me.
06:36I have so much.
06:37I have tweets.
06:38I have everything pulled up the notes app.
06:40When did Deshaun Watson get 324 passing yards?
06:43And also who the hell did go?
06:44You know what it was?
06:45It was Harold Fannin and it was Dylan Sampson.
06:48It was checkdowns where I would love to see what the yards after catch were.
06:51I remember a couple of weeks ago, my, my buddy actually pointed this out that it seemed like
06:56every single pass from Deshaun Watson, the yards after catch was like a stupid, crazy
07:02amount.
07:02And we looked at it that the average yards after catch for, uh, in the NFL wide receivers,
07:07like four to six yards.
07:09So you get like a four yard reception and then you get 10 yards overall to Sean.
07:14I think it was the Titans win or it was the one before that.
07:16I can't remember.
07:17He had 12, he averaged 12 yards after catch from his receivers, 200 of his 300 yards were
07:24from yards after catch on the receiver, making shifty plays.
07:28Obviously Harold Fannin has been a big part of that.
07:30And again, today, like I would love to see what the, uh, eventual yards after catch was,
07:34but anyways, going back to the sacks, uh, it, it's not always on Deshaun Watson.
07:40It's easy for us to point at things like just throw the ball.
07:44And when we're screaming at our TV, the entire time said, throw the ball, throw the ball.
07:48And then he doesn't need to get sacked.
07:50We want to pinpoint our finger at Deshaun Watson and say that it was his fault.
07:55I think today you saw more so than in past weeks, it was Spencer Fano's fault.
07:59Then it was Austin Barber's fault.
08:01Then it was a running back.
08:03Didn't chip somebody the correct way.
08:04And TJ watches bold through an offensive lineman and the extra blocker to get to Deshaun Watson.
08:11But throughout the game, I had this feeling in the back of my head and I saw something on social
08:15media too.
08:16That was like, should, should Todd Munkin move off of Deshaun Watson in this game?
08:21And not even in the sense that we want to see Shador Sanders.
08:25I am not a guy that really cares to ever see Shador Sanders this season.
08:29If we get to the end of this and we don't even see him in a regular season game,
08:32other than in garbage time and in, uh, just spot plays when somebody gets injured, fine.
08:38I don't care. It's no skin off my back. It's a fifth round quarterback.
08:41Be a backup quarterback for the rest of your career.
08:43That's what you were drafted to be. I don't care, but I've saw a Deshaun Watson that clearly was at
08:52least from my eyes in over his head
08:55and in over his head overwhelmed because the Pittsburgh defense had such a solid game plan against him.
09:01And TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith and Cam Hayward were, who actually did back up his trash talk were in
09:08the backfield so much.
09:10And I kept thinking to myself, if you go to Shador Sanders, at least in the second half,
09:15you can come out and say that Deshaun Watson was injured still.
09:19And that, you know, he was still kind of going through protocol. That's fine.
09:21None of us really care as to why, but you could make that easy change at halftime knowing that it
09:29looked like Deshaun Watson was just not physically capable to continue to move the offense down the field.
09:35It wasn't just that he was making bad decisions because I don't think he was making terrible decisions, at least
09:41on his passes.
09:41I know there were a couple of reads that he missed, but, and he certainly had very little pocket presence
09:47today, even worse than I've seen over these last couple of weeks.
09:50But when he was being pressured as much as he was and forced to get out of the pocket and
09:56extend the play and try and find somebody, he just wasn't able to do that.
10:00And I know that you didn't draft Shador Sanders to be this athletic Lamar Jackson style quarterback.
10:04He's got the intangibles. He's got a great arm and he's able to pinpoint his passes pretty consistently.
10:11But I felt like maybe that would be something to at least add a little bit of a spark.
10:16I didn't think that they'd do it, but it certainly crept into the back of my mind.
10:21And if you continue to have games like this, and then all the wins that were covered up and all
10:26the issues that we had over the course of our five wins, all that stuff starts to creep up in
10:31the back of your mind as well.
10:32Then moving to Shador Sanders, even if you have a winning or 500 or close there to a 500 record,
10:40sounds a lot more feasible and a lot more realistic than it did a week prior, two weeks prior.
10:47We still have a long way to go. And Deshaun Watson still hasn't proven that other than winning the game
10:55late, he can consistently run an offense.
10:58Now, as Jack said, last segment, you don't pull shit or you don't pull Deshaun Watson late because you're pulling
11:03the guy that has led you on five heroic game winning drives and won five games late.
11:08You know, what did, what did Jeff say earlier? One game by four points and four games by three points
11:14in theory, just on its face, you're going to trust the quarterback.
11:18That's led you on all of that. As opposed to a guy that didn't win the starting job out of
11:23camp that is now splitting backup reps with Dylan Gabriel.
11:25But I know that there wasn't going to be a move. I thought that maybe today would be the day
11:34that there would be some serious consideration into it.
