00:10Tommy, RP, everybody, you know, has all hands on deck
00:14and doing a good job in progressing with this new offense
00:17and getting things right, you know.
00:19The little details and all that stuff is getting honed in on,
00:23and we're just preparing our asses off for week one.
00:26I can only speak for my experience because I've played in the same offense.
00:31I love playing football.
00:33From when I got to Georgia, from one year at Coach Rick,
00:36to the NFL, the one year in St. Louis,
00:39I played in the same offense for pretty much the same thing.
00:41All the same terminology, all the wrinkles, all those different things.
00:43Everything is the same as it always is.
00:45Everything is more or less a terminology thing if you switch up those things.
00:49Maybe some tweaks in the formation, things like that.
00:52You get more of the learning as game plan
00:54because there's a new play coming in with a new wrinkle and everything
00:56off the base of what you already have learned.
00:59But, yeah, everybody's learning at the same time.
01:01You know, now it's more on the quarterback,
01:03and I'm sure it's a lot on Drake because of how different positions
01:07Drake is going to play within this offense.
01:09But, I mean, it's the same thing you're running.
01:11You're going to run your stop routes.
01:12You're still going to run your options routes in there where Drake is.
01:15You're going to run your sticks route, different things like that.
01:17But, I mean, I think the one thing is that now Michael's there with you.
01:20You know, and I know we were talking to – no, we're talking to –
01:24we heard Tommy Reese's earlier in the show about, you know,
01:27the mental part of it because that's when we always –
01:29we always judge this competition on if it's 11-on-11, both players can do it.
01:33That's when the competition starts.
01:34And he kind of said that.
01:36But, to me, that comment that he was saying about in the walkthrough and all,
01:39that was judged as part of the competition.
01:41I do believe that now.
01:42Not necessarily because Michael couldn't do 11-on-11.
01:45I think all of that was judging.
01:46And you just have to, you know, take what he's doing
01:50and look at it from the evaluation net and the evaluation tour.
01:53It was a competition to me all along.
01:55Sure, because they're judging all the different things they can throughout it.
01:59It's easier now, I would assume, now that both guys are able to do the same stuff.
02:03But, yeah, I just think we spent so much of the offseason and training camp
02:07and preseason so far, understandably, talking about who's going to be the quarterback
02:11and not as much time talking about the fact that everyone on the offense is learning,
02:15at least to a certain extent, some new stuff.
02:18And it sounds like the run game is going to be quite a bit different, right?
02:21I mean, they're going to go away from what had been exclusively an outside zone
02:25to a lot more, you know, interior stuff, which is great.
02:28Like, I'd use Bijan as many different ways as you possibly can.
02:33It's just, you know, whoever the quarterback is,
02:36and I think we're both kind of on the same page now of it's kind of Michael's opportunity to take
02:40it
02:41and I don't know if it's his job to lose, but whatever.
02:42It feels like maybe he has the lead position to win the job.
02:47He hasn't played a lot of football either way, you know what I mean?
02:50Whether it's in this offense, which he hasn't played any football in,
02:54or 12 games in the NFL in now going into his third year.
02:58So, you know, say he wins the job, great.
03:01He's going to be learning on the job still, you know?
03:04Like, even if it was the same offense as last year, he's still, yeah.
03:09I don't know.
03:09What is normally like the threshold for a starting quarterback of starts in an offense
03:13to be like, yeah, he's got that thing backwards and forward, second nature.
03:18You're talking about more than 12.
03:20You're talking about a full offseason of it, doing everything,
03:24and then I would say maybe same coordinator?
03:28Yeah.
03:29Two, three years?
03:30Yeah, I was going to say like 30 games, something like that, you know?
03:32Then it's like, all right, that's kind of what it often is with rookie quarterbacks.
03:36Before you have mastered it.
03:38And the master thing is, I can call anything.
03:41There's still things you probably can't call for my quarterback.
03:43You know what I mean?
03:44And I know where the receiver, especially if it's the same personnel,
03:47and that's a good thing for these guys on offense.
03:49So many of the guys on the offensive line, so many of the pass catchers,
03:54Bijon, obviously if it's Pennix at quarterback, they're familiar with each other,
03:57so they know each other's little idiosyncrasies and all that.
04:00But, yeah, I mean, that's just, you know, we've got to get over the first hump
04:04of deciding who the starting quarterback is,
04:06and then we get into that real thing of like these guys all learning this offense,
04:10growing together, and I don't know, it's just,
04:13it'll be really interesting to see how it goes if Mike wins the job,
04:18and then he's like pretty good, you know?
04:21If he's great, then obviously you know what they do going forward.
04:25If he's terrible or, God forbid, gets hurt again or something like that,
04:28I think that makes it easy for the team to move on and go with a younger quarterback.
04:32But, like, there's also a path where he grows throughout the year in this offense
04:40and looks better by the end than he did at the beginning,
04:42and it's like we've got to see it again.
04:44It's a possibility.
04:44You want him, you know, because, again, like so often,
04:47because he's still a young quarterback in terms of experience,
04:50like so often you want to see young quarterbacks in their second year
04:54with their offensive coordinators, right?
04:56Especially if it's a situation where the coordinator is retained
05:01or the coordinator is coming back.
05:02I would assume Tommy Reese will be here.
05:04Yeah, I would assume.
05:05The only thing you don't want to happen to Tommy Reese this year
05:08is that Kevin Stefanski starts calling plays.
05:11Yeah, I mean, if that happens, then all bets are off for everything.
05:15Yeah, exactly.
05:15Because that would mean something pretty bad happens.
