00:01One Nation leader, Senator Pauline Hanson, has been touring the New South Wales Hunter
00:06region today with her newly announced New South Wales candidate, Mike Newman.
00:11Mr Newman is a former New South Wales Investment Commissioner and has been confirmed to contest
00:17the seat of Cessnock in March's state election for One Nation.
00:21Now at a press conference this morning, Mr Newman spoke on a number of policy ideas and
00:27promises, some of those included reducing the public service, increasing investment
00:33for the coal industry, winding back renewable energy and also reducing payroll tax for regional
00:39businesses.
00:40The message we hear out on the market is always the same thing, we'd like to hire more people
00:45but we're sort of playing off against how much payroll tax we may or may not have to pay.
00:49This morning Senator Hanson referred to Mr Newman as the leader of One Nation in New South Wales
00:55But when questioned by journalists at the announcement this morning, he stopped short of confirming
01:01whether he had moved to the Cessnock area or was intending to move to the Cessnock area.
01:06He's been based largely in Japan for quite a number of years and even at one point in the
01:11press conference spoke Japanese to a Japanese journalist that was visiting.
01:16Now also announced at the press conference this morning, Stuart Bonds, a local coal miner,
01:20he will be running for the upper house for One Nation.
01:23He's run a number of times for One Nation at different elections and even previously as
01:28an independent.
01:29He has long campaigned on protecting and securing coal jobs in this region.
01:34Also at the press conference, Barnaby Joyce, of course, he has since left the Nationals and
01:39joined One Nation.
01:40He even said he wanted to see the New South Wales Net Zero authorities scrapped in full if One
01:47Nation are to establish any power in the upcoming state election.
01:50At the last state election in 2023, One Nation ran in more than a dozen seats and failed
01:56to pick up any of those.
01:58The party says they'll be announcing more candidates in other seats in due course.
02:02years, Oh, you guys.
02:03Go ahead.
