Welcome everyone. In today's feature from 1948 called The Fallen Idol, we have a sad tale. Let me start by saying, we all have I feel one time or another have said what are called little white lies. Some big, some small. Sometimes they entertain ourselves and sometimes others. Who's it gonna hurt. Well in this film it does hurt, especially for little Philippe. Our story's main character. We start out at an embassy in Belgrave Square, London. Where Philippe's father is a French speaking ambassador who is hardly ever home and his mother is in hospital. So Philippe is at times very lonely. I say at times because he does have one friend, his butler, Baines. Baines is an English butler who helps to look after Philippe and who really cares for Philippe and feels his loneliness. So to entertain Philippe, he not only plays games with him but tells him tales of his personal
escapades or should I say our little white lies. But Philippe believes them all and loves his friendship. Now Baines I should also state is married. His wife the wonderfully fun Mrs. Baines and yes I meant that sarcastically is as mean as they come and no fun to be around. Now Baines also has another friend, Julie who happens to be a typist from the embassy. They happen to be in love and Baines wants to tell his wife it is over but she won't listen. Philippe eventually finds out about Baines and Julie as does his wife and let's just say she isn't happy. Mrs. Baines decides to catch them in the act but sadly things backfire, for all, especially for Mrs. Baines. For our Mrs. Baines has a terrible accident or is it and to top it all off, Philippe's world comes crumbling down. Will Philippe be able to handle the truth and what about his parents. Well we will just have to watch and probably be depressed while doing so. Staring in this tall tale we have...Bobby Henrey as Philippe, Sir Ralph Richardson as Baines, Michèle Morgan as Julie, Sonia Dresdel as Mrs. Baines, Jack Hawkins as Detective Ames, Denis O'Dea as Chief Inspector Crowe, Walter Fitzgerald as Dr Fenton, Gerard Heinz as Ambassador and so many more. So let's get some bread and cheese maybe and some red wine. We're gonna need it. Thanks so much for watching and hope you do enjoy the film. If you feel inclined to sub to my little channel, a very big THANKS.
