00:00Trump's name got yanked off the Kennedy Center.
00:02And now they're threatening to tear the whole building down.
00:05Here's what's happening.
00:06Trump's board of trustees put his name on the Kennedy Center in December 2025.
00:11The White House called it recognition for Trump stepping up to save the institution.
00:16Ohio Congresswoman Joyce Beatty sued and a judge agreed
00:19only Congress can rename a national memorial.
00:22Cruz pulled Trump's name down in June 2026.
00:26The board tried again on August 13th.
00:28Keep Kennedy Center official but add Trump's name to the plaza in his role to the building.
00:33That was challenged as well.
00:35At an emergency hearing on August 27th,
00:37Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick warned the center could be demolished if renovations stall.
00:42The judge cut Lutnick off asking why the board appeared to defy his order
00:46that only Congress can change the name.
00:48Now this isn't just about a nameplate.
00:50Congress put 257 million taxpayer dollars toward renovations.
00:54ABC News called it a fight over who controls the Kennedy Center.
00:57Trump or Congress?
00:59Lutnick frames it as recognition, not a renaming,
01:02calling Trump the greatest fundraiser and builder ever, whom the center needs to survive.
01:07257 million would be enough money to completely renovate and restore the building
01:11if President Trump was the construction manager.
01:15If he agreed to do it, we could get this done.
01:18Beatty's attorneys counter calling the demolition mention a not-so-subtle threat and unconscionable.
01:24As of this recording, August 28th, the judge hasn't ruled.
01:27But what do you think?
01:28Is Trump saving the Kennedy Center or still doing what a judge already told him he couldn't?
