00:00Imagine it's 9 in the morning. The markets are opening along the Trishuli. Pilgrims are moving
00:05toward Kalash. And labourers have started work at the hydropower sites. And then the mountain
00:10speaks. On August 26th in Nepal's Rasuwa district, ice and rock break away from a glacier and fall
00:16blocking the Linde Kola. The water stops, gathers, waits and then it moves. Taking villages, bridges
00:22and roads with it in one motion. 350 people are dead and 1,300 are still missing. More than 700
00:29of them are foreigners. Most of them Indian pilgrims who had come for Kalash. There was
00:34no rain that morning and no cloud burst. This did not come from the sky. It came from the ice.
00:39That is not a coincidence. It is a pattern. And don't tell yourself that this is the neighbour's
00:43tragedy. Look at a map. The Trishuli becomes the Narayani. Narayani becomes the Gandak. And the
00:47Gandak flows straight into Bihar before giving itself to the Ganga. The water that destroyed
00:53Rasuwa yesterday is the water in your fields and the water in your evening Aarti who warmed
00:58the glacier, not the mountain. We did. Because there is an emptiness inside us and we have decided
01:03to fill it from outside. One more car, one more house, one more journey, one more thing. So the
01:08consuming has no end. And endless consuming requires us to keep burning the earth. So the
01:14Himalayan ice is not melting only in our furnaces. It is melting in our wanting. Scientists warn that we
01:20are standing at the threshold of the sixth mass extinction with species disappearing at a rate the
01:27earth has not witnessed in millions of years. This is not just one country's flood. It is
01:32a rehearsal for humanity drowning. That flood was not news. It was a mirror. Do we have the
01:38courage to find our own face in it?
