00:09In this drawing we're going to create a storm drainage network which will run along the
00:14Collister Boulevard and outfold into the pond. We will add a branch along Sycamore Heights and then
00:21later another one down Woodside view. From the Home ribbon tab, Create Design Panel,
00:28select Pipe Network and then Pipe Network Creation Tools. In the Create Pipe Network dialog set the
00:37network name to Storm1. Set the network parts list to iOS City Storm. The surface we'll be designing
00:47on is the finished ground. You can link the network to an alignment if you wish. This would enable you
00:56to label the network with a change and offset from the alignment. We are not going to assign an
01:01alignment. Set the Structure Label Style to Name Only Storm and set the Pipe Label Style to Name Only
01:11and then click OK. Now the Network Layout Toolbar is displayed. The first button on the toolbar
01:19opens the network properties. Click on the Information tab. Here you can change its name and set the type
01:27of utility. This is just a category that we can assign. On the Layout Settings tab you can change
01:34the default label styles. Change the parts list to be used and change the reference surface and alignment.
01:46You can assign the layers for the pipes and the structures and you can set up the naming template
01:53for both. For the pipe name template click on the Edit button on the right. We are going to change
02:02the name.
02:03Remove the existing name and then type P and a space and then add next counter from the property field.
02:12Reset the starting number back to 1 and then click OK. For the structure name template change the name to
02:22MH and then add a space and then the next counter field. Reset the starting number back to 1 and
02:31click OK.
02:34On the Profile tab you can set default label styles that can be used when drawing pipes in a profile
02:40view
02:41and also set the default layers. On the Section tab you can set the default layer only.
02:49Click OK to close the properties dialog. The second button on the toolbar allows you to change the
02:55reference surface at any time. The next button assigns the reference alignment.
03:03And the fourth button allows you to change the parts list. These changes can be made at any time
03:10during the layout of your design. There are two pull-down lists, one for structures and one for pipes,
03:18where you can select the parts from the parts lists that you want to use.
03:24The Structure Insertion Point button will allow you to assign the pipe connection point to the structure.
03:31When using structures created using PartBuilder, the only choice is Structure Insertion Point.
03:39This button will start the layout command and you can choose to insert both pipes and structures,
03:47pipes only or structures only. The toggle upstream downstream button will set the direction of layout
03:55for the pipes. Typically we start drawing our networks at the upstream end and draw downstream.
04:04You can delete a part using this button and you can view the pipe network in tabular form
04:11using the pipe network vistas. Set the structure to concentric cylindrical structure 60 inch diameter
04:20and set the pipe to 12 inch concrete pipe. On the draw button select pipes and structures. On the command
04:31line
04:31it's prompting for the first structure insertion point. Zoom to the end of McCollister Boulevard at the
04:36roundabout as shown. Place the first structure at the white circle marker and then proceed along the road,
04:44placing structures at each circle marker in turn. As you insert the structures, pipes are placed
04:53automatically between the structures. Place the last structure on the run at the inside of the pond as
05:02shown and press enter to end the command. Now zoom to the crest of the hill on Sycamore Heights. We're
05:13now
05:13going to add a branch on our network back to McCollister Boulevard. From the toolbar select draw pipes and
05:20structures and then lay out the structures using the circle markers as guides. When you reach McCollister
05:28Boulevard you need to join to the existing structure. As you move your crosshairs over the structure you'll
05:36see an orange circle symbol with four spokes. When you see this symbol appear it signifies that you'll be
05:43connecting to an existing structure and so it will join the last pipe to this structure. Pick on the
05:50structure when you see the symbol and then press enter to end the command. Now you can review the network.
05:57From Prospector expand pipe networks and expand storm 1. You can view the list of pipes and structures in the
06:05item list view. Click on storm 1 then right click and choose select. In the model space right click and
06:14choose object viewer.
06:16You can see that Civil 3D has created the pipe network in 3D using the pipe rule sets to place
06:24the pipes
06:24under the ground and setting the structure depths accordingly.
