00:00U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson is calling on G20 countries to take a tougher look at their
00:06trade with China. He says the world cannot sustain a Chinese trade surplus of US$1.2 trillion.
00:14Besson says other countries need to take a more coordinated approach
00:18and press Beijing to boost its domestic economy.
00:23Speaking ahead of the G20 finance leaders' meeting in North Carolina,
00:27Besson said Chinese policymakers are trying to export their way out of a growth slowdown.
00:33His push comes as U.S. tariffs have reduced Chinese imports into the U.S.,
00:38while more Chinese goods are flowing into other markets, including Europe and Latin America.
00:43Besson said other countries now need to press China to shift away from exports,
00:48saying Beijing should do more to boost the demand at home.
00:51The comments come as Washington and Beijing prepare for a summit between President Donald
00:55Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping next month.
00:59The two sides are currently maintaining a fragile tariff truce,
01:03which is set to expire in November unless it is extended.
