00:32According to three sources cited by CNN, Driscoll submitted his resignation to President Donald Trump.

00:41The move reportedly follows months of friction with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth

00:47over the direction of the Army and the removal of senior officers.

00:51The White House has not given a reason for Driscoll's resignation.

00:55Instead, spokeswoman Anna Kelly praised his leadership during what she described as historic military operations

01:03and highlighted his role in negotiations involving Russia and Ukraine.

01:09But Driscoll's departure comes at a particularly sensitive moment for the U.S. Army

01:14because the service is now entering another period of leadership uncertainty.

01:19There is currently no confirmed civilian or uniformed leader at the top of the Army.

01:26Randy George was fired in April and has not been replaced.

01:30Chris Donahue left in June.

01:33And Navy Secretary John Phelan also departed in April,

01:41Driscoll had also emerged as one of the strongest voices

01:49But the battalion created specifically for that mission
