00:18One of the more interesting comments from the Peters Quinn presser yesterday
00:22to break down the first version of the 53-man roster
00:26came from the general manager, Adam Peters.
00:29This is what he said.
00:31I have a ton of confidence in this team.
00:33I have a ton of confidence in the coaching staff.
00:35And DQ alluded to it.
00:36We haven't done a whole lot in terms of showing what we're going to be doing,
00:41bless you, offensively and defensively.
00:44And there's been a lot of times where we haven't had our players out there,
00:48whether it's been in the games or even at practice.
00:50So I look back to how we did against the Dolphins
00:55and just seeing when we had the full arsenal of players up front,
01:01offensively, defensively, to seeing what we're capable of.
01:05And very confident in that.
01:07Like DQ just talked about with Jaden, where he's at
01:10and what he's going to be and having him back.
01:15Just the overall character of the men in that room
01:19and the level of coaching that we have, I'm very confident.
01:24And, you know, I think obviously your fans are passionate
01:31and you love to have passionate fans and that's great.
01:35But, you know, there's a lot of stuff that we're doing here
01:37that maybe they don't see and there's a lot of things
01:40that I'm really excited to see in a couple of weeks.
01:43We couldn't be more thrilled than to start our season
01:45when we're starting it and it's going to be a great challenge
01:47and we're looking forward to it.
01:49Passion is good.
01:50Fans are passionate.
01:52He went on to say, essentially,
01:54you don't know what we have ready to deploy
01:57and you haven't seen the good stuff yet.
01:59So I think my reaction to that is,
02:02and I'm not saying that he's miffed or bothered,
02:05but you can't be.
02:06You know, if you're Adam Peters, if you're Dan Quinn,
02:08if you're reading and everyone says they don't read anything,
02:10they don't hear anything, I never have believed any of that.
02:12But if you're the PR staff or anybody over at the building,
02:15you can't get upset over fans or the media
02:19or anybody on the outside being concerned or worried
02:23when your point is, we got a lot of secrets you guys don't know about yet.
02:26Cool.
02:27I hope you're right.
02:28I am not allowed to go into the layer where you hide all the missiles
02:31and the machines and the tanks that you're going to be rolling out there
02:35on the battlefield.
02:36So I hope you're right.
02:37I hope down there somewhere on the fourth floor where I'm not allowed to go,
02:40you just got a bunch of artillery and bullets and all kinds of stuff.
02:45I take your word for it.
02:47I took him saying that statement as scheme-based.
02:51We have not shown our offense.
02:52We have not shown our defense.
02:54We didn't really play anybody in the preseason.
02:57You guys are panicking about something that you don't need to panic about.
03:00That's what I took it to mean.
03:02Some fans, though, took it as more of a condescending,
03:06almost negative toward,
03:08you guys just don't have all the information, so relax.
03:12Relaxed in almost more of a negative way, I think.
03:15Yeah, because I think the answer that you heard
03:18and then the second part of it that you just said were both in there
03:21because the question was from Scott Abraham who was basically saying,
03:25hey, fans are worried.
03:26Fans are concerned.
03:27The tenor of the fan base is, oh, my God, right?
03:30Because everybody's hurt.
03:31The performance that we did see hasn't been particularly good.
03:35Starters played three plays,
03:37and this past weekend's game was terrible.
03:39Again, I know that it doesn't matter.
03:42But, again, a fan turns on the television,
03:44Washington's playing, and it looks awful.
03:45The reactions afterwards are, that's not up to our standard.
03:48That's awful.
03:49That's not who we are.
03:50Same thing with the practice with the Ravens.
03:53The recent data points are what?
03:55Joint practice with the Ravens, debacle.
03:57Preseason game.
03:58Again, a lot of guys that aren't going to be on the team, whatever.
04:00Which we don't know.
04:00One of the worst I've ever seen in my life.
04:02And there was another one.
04:03Oh, the Lions three plays with the starters didn't go well.
04:06I don't care much about that because it's a tiny sample,
04:08but it's the entire sample with the starters.
04:10Yeah.
04:10So, you get the, hey, here's why we should be confident.
04:13And these are good reasons.
04:14Bunch of scheme things that nobody's seen.
04:17Fact.
04:19Indisputable fact.
04:20Bunch of players that didn't play.
04:22We'll come back to that.
04:23Because that, to me, is two sides of the same coin.
04:26Bunch of players that didn't play.
04:27I'm going, yep, a bunch of guys that didn't play.
04:28We saw that last year and a bunch of guys that didn't play.
04:30And it didn't look real good.
04:31And a bunch of these guys are injured.
04:32They're just magically healthy.
04:34I'm worried about that.
04:35So, I don't think a bunch of guys didn't play necessarily was injury-related.
04:39I think that means you didn't see Jaden Daniels, who's our whiteout.
04:42You know what I mean?
04:43He fixes all of our problems.
04:44He's our Band-Aid.
04:45You didn't see Stephon Diggs.
04:47You didn't see Terry McLaurin.
04:48You didn't see Bill for a single snap.
04:51There's your core.
04:52You saw Chig make a couple catches.
04:54I don't even remember which game.
04:55The Detroit game, maybe.
04:55In one of the games he played and was effective.
04:59You didn't see the guys that are our best football players,
05:01I think is what he was saying, as if to say,
05:02we didn't deploy them.
05:03We didn't ask them to do anything.
05:05Right.
05:05And that's his saying, and that's why I'm confident.
05:09A fan could say, you did that last year and you were awful.
05:12The team was awful when you didn't play guys in the preseason.
05:15Plus, the injury part of it, I think, is part of this,
05:18where you had a bunch of guys that we haven't seen in a month and a half
05:21in a lot of cases.
05:22And then, so the last part is, appreciate you guys' passion.
05:25I appreciate the interest.
05:27We know better than you.
05:28Now, I think that's true, by the way.
05:30But it's still one of those, that quote's going to come back up.
05:33If they're 2-7 through a nine-game gauntlet to start this season,
05:38someone's going to bring that back up, and rightfully so.
05:40I totally agree with you on that.
05:42It's one of those Ron Rivera era, kind of Bruce Allen time period,
05:49cringeworthy comments on, you know, when you look at it,
05:51when you're 2-5 or whatever.
05:53Like, we know best, true, but the football games are coming,
05:57and you've got to be right, or else that's going to get used against you.
06:00Sure.
06:00But I think it is accurate to say, the part I care about is,
06:06nobody's seen our offense with David Blau.
06:07And he's going, it's going to be pretty good.
06:09And this is the thing.
06:10Nobody's seen this defense with Durante Jones, and it's going to be damn good.
06:13If you guys haven't seen the Brian Flores dial-up blitzes from the parking lot,
06:17put seven on the line of scrimmage, they're not going to know who's coming or going.
06:20When we couldn't get our calls right, we had the worst protection plan I've ever seen in my life.
06:24This is me speaking.
06:25Against the Vikings when it was 31-0, and, you know, Daniels was getting destroyed in the pocket.
06:31That's coming.
06:32The Eagles have to deal with that in Week 1.
06:34I think that's what he's saying.
06:35Now, to your point, there's a lot of pressure here for them to be right,
06:38and for them to look good.
06:39But I guess I just didn't take offense to it.
06:42It seems to me like some people took offense to that comment.
06:44Is that fair?
06:45Oh, 100%, yeah.
06:46Did you?
06:47I did.
06:48Now, again, I don't think it was meant that way.
06:50I don't think he's flipping a middle finger at the fans going,
06:52you idiots don't know anything, and we do.
06:54So what offense did you take?
06:54Again, it's mild.
06:56It's small, but it's the, they're there.
07:01It's okay.
07:02The grown-ups have it.
07:04There's a mixed bag.
07:05There's a mixed track record here over the last season plus.
07:10And until you have a Kansas City-style run, a Howie Roseman-type run,
07:15a John Schneider-type run,
07:17you don't just get to go, quiet down, concerned citizen.
07:20We're on top of this.
07:21You're standing in front of a burning building telling me nothing to see here.
07:24Right?
07:26So that's the part I kind of go, I don't love that.
07:28Again, I'm not, like, offended to the point I'm storming off of something or whatever,
07:31but I go, I don't like that.
07:33It's not something that I would do.
07:34I would go, the first part I think is totally fair, totally accurate,
07:39and the right thing to say, which is, we didn't show a ton.
07:43That's by design.
07:44There's a lot of things schematically that we're going to unveil.
07:47We're excited about our group.
07:49I think you can leave it there instead of saying, passion's great,
07:52but we know better than you.
07:53Because that's the last part, I'll never, I just don't like that.
07:56It's not how I'm wired.
07:58I'm not telling you how to think.
07:59I just didn't feel that when I listened to it.
08:01Because I think he's even saying, like, fans are passionate.
08:05I expect fans to have opinions.
08:07And essentially saying, that's okay.
08:09They're allowed to have those opinions.
08:11But they haven't seen anything that is in regular season mode yet.
08:16And I guess the only difference would be,
08:18I'm just waiting until the regular season to get upset.
08:21Whereas other people have already decided.
08:24I think this is my feeling on center as well.
08:26I don't think how they built the center position is that different
08:29than how most teams build the center position.
08:31You know, who were the centers on the teams that won the Super Bowl
08:34and lost in the Super Bowl last year?
08:36The Seahawks had a UDFA at center.
08:39The Patriots had a, you know, late round guy or whatever.
08:42The league just doesn't think that highly of the position.
08:45There's like three guys that make any real money at center.
08:47So how many teams have a really good backup center?
08:50Like two veterans and a guy that makes $9 million to be the backup center.
08:54My point is, it might backfire.
08:56When it does, I can't wait to be here.
08:59Then call on me.
09:00That sucked.
09:01Bad plan.
09:02I'm going to put an L in the column for center.
09:04But right now, this second, in a world I understand where we call balls and strikes,
09:09I don't know if it's a bad plan yet.
09:11It's not the plan I would do.
09:12But it's not like Matt Golbin's the starter.
09:15People are acting like Matt Golbin is the starter.
09:17The starter is the guy that started the last two games at the end of last year,
09:20was a starter on this team at the beginning of last year to another position,
09:23and started in the Super Bowl before on one of the best teams in the league.
09:27So I guess, going back to the original Adam Peters point,
09:31where they're hiding the good stuff, you haven't seen the good stuff yet,
09:34my point is, the games are coming.
09:37We'll get, like, I can't wait.
09:39I can't wait to see if they're right.
09:41But I heard that comment, and I knew right away, I was like,
09:44ooh, that feels Bruce Allen-y.
09:46That does feel like the old regime, in a sense.
09:50I just think it was not said in a way where, like,
09:53Bruce's comment would have been something along the lines of,
09:58how would he have done it differently?
09:59It would have been, fans are passionate, we appreciate that,
10:03but we know what we're doing.
10:05Yeah, we know our guys or something.
10:06That exact phrase, whereas Adam Peters is just going,
10:10here's what he should have said, maybe, that would have made you feel better.
10:13If all I saw was all the fans have seen, I would also be panicked right now.
10:19Then I'd go, yeah, perfect.
10:20But I see a lot more.
10:22Now, you would have hated that, because he's acknowledging that he's smarter
10:24and he's in the room, which is true, by the way.
10:26But people don't like to hear that, I guess.
10:27I don't know.
10:28But, yeah, I'm at every practice.
10:29Not me, personally.
10:30Adam Peters.
10:31I'm in the building every day.
10:32I see the roster every day.
10:34I know what the center position looks like on 31 other teams.
10:37Anything he says like that for an ethos establishment
10:40or for some credibility is going to come off poorly, I guess.
10:43The fact is, they just have to win.
10:45Because if they lose, you're going to get crushed for the comment.
10:48But if they win, we're going to look back in four weeks going,
10:50he was right.
10:52We hadn't seen the good stuff yet.
10:54Yeah, I mean, it's basically, when you say,
10:57we appreciate your passion,
10:59it's like the thing that you'd say to a child, right?
11:01I appreciate the question, buddy,
11:03or I appreciate that you want a dessert before dinner,
11:05but you can't have it, because I know better than you.
11:07Because that's how it comes across.
11:08To me, there's no way to avoid that.
11:10The first part of the explanation is a correct explanation.
11:14You have not seen the schemes.
11:16I have not.
11:16You're right.
11:17You have not seen all the personnel deployed.
11:19You're right.
11:19I have not.
11:20Now, again, we could quibble with that,
11:22that maybe you should have deployed them at some points in the preseason.
11:24You chose not to last year, and you sucked.
11:25But whatever.
11:26I think these are very valid things.
11:28But when you get to that last part,
11:30even though I don't think he meant it as like a thumbing his nose at the fans,
11:33like he's not sunning everybody,
11:35it inadvertently comes off as,
11:37your concerns are invalid because we know better.
11:40To me, there's no way around that.
11:41When you listen, when you read.
11:42Could it be your concerns are invalid because you're judging the D version of the team?
11:48Because that's how I view like a lot of the narrative right now.
11:51It's fair.
11:51We're judging the thing we've seen,
11:53which is nothing like the thing that is going to happen on.
11:56And I still don't think they're, you know,
11:58an 11 win team or anything.
11:59But the version of them that's going to play the Eagles has not been seen yet.
12:03Here's the quote.
12:04Obviously, our fans are passionate, and you love to have passionate fans.
12:07That's great.
12:08But there's a lot of stuff we're doing here that maybe they don't see,
12:11and a lot of things I'm excited to see in a couple weeks.
12:13True, true.
12:14Right.
12:15That is, you're passionate,
12:17and all that passion doesn't equate to the knowledge I have.
12:19I know better than you.
12:20That's all that is.
12:22But he does.
12:22I mean, he's the general manager.
12:23Of course he does.
12:24But, again, you're invalidating everybody's concern,
12:28and it may be invalid.
12:29As you said, time will tell.
12:31It's not the kind of thing I need someone after this tire fire of a preseason
12:35and training camp where everyone was hurt all the time despite nobody doing
12:39anything, despite all the days off we're doing Camp Quinn again,
12:42and the samples we got were terrible,
12:45and it's like your concerns are invalid after a 5-12 season.
12:49After a 5-12 season.
12:50Listen, if they were 12-5 last year and everyone was panicking,
12:54this makes more sense to me.
12:56Have a little more bravado.
12:57Yeah, they're acting like they're on easy street.
12:59We know.
13:00We got it.
13:01We took care of it.
13:02I don't trust you yet.
13:04I guess that's a huge part of it, too, for some fans.
13:06It's just the way that part comes across.
13:08If he just delivered the first part,
13:10I think I'm not angry at him or anything.
13:11I'm not calling for anything.
13:13You could hash it out with him at an evening with Adam Peters.
13:15I suppose I will.
13:16You're very upset with him on stage.
13:18106.7, the fan presenting.
13:19An evening with Adam Peters coming up on Thursday night
13:23if you want to be there when Danny shouts.
13:25Tickets are available now at ArlingtonDraftHouse.com.
13:28No, but I think this would go over a lot better
13:31if you kind of left it at the first part of the explanation,
13:34which is we're not going to tip our hand with schemes.
13:37Correct.
13:38You haven't seen everybody.
13:39And that, I think, is a good discussion point
13:41because we probably should have seen people a little bit more than we did.
13:43Isn't that what he said?
13:45Then he closes with,
13:47Yeah.
13:47Your passion's great.
13:48We know better.
13:49So you don't like the passion comment?
13:52It's invalidating anybody's concern.
13:54Right.
13:55I don't think his job is to sit there and validate the guy in Section 417
14:00who's got a hot take.
14:01I'm not saying it is.
14:01He's responding to a question about fans that are worried.
14:05And he's going,
14:06Shh, shh, shh.
14:07We got it.
14:08And that's how it comes across.
14:09The answer to his question is,
14:12Hey, man, fans are super worried.
14:15What do you think?
14:16And he's going,
14:17Yeah, they're very passionate.
14:18I understand that they're worried.
14:19They haven't seen our team yet.
14:21Our team's,
14:21The season starts September 13th.
14:23I think that's his answer.
14:25And that part of the answer is great.
14:27The last couple phrases of,
14:29or the last couple sentences,
14:31We really appreciate your passion.
14:33Thanks so much for caring.
14:35Your concerns are invalid because we know better than you.
14:37And they do know better than we do.
14:39But there's a condescension to that that I think is unavoidable.
14:42And you have to willfully push it aside and pretend it's not there.
14:46The first part of his answer is factually 100% accurate.
14:50There's no question about that.
14:52We did not see all the players in the preseason.
14:54Again, I think we should have seen them more.
14:55And I think you do too.
14:56And they didn't tip their hand for schemes.
14:58Totally correct.
14:59I completely disagree with how they did the preseason.
15:02100%.
15:03I disagree with how they did the training camp.
15:05I mean, I have more disagreements with what they do than agreements.
15:07When I hear this quote or his answer,
15:09I just don't have any issue.
15:12Because you cannot like it or want to hear it.
15:14Because the same way if someone just looks at me and is like,
15:17You're fat.
15:18I'm like,
15:19True.
15:20Socks.
15:21You're dead up in a few weeks.
15:22Our guy, Brian McNally,
15:23who spent a long time covering sports here in D.C.,
15:26Yeah.
15:26Quote Twitter this and said,
15:28My feelings exactly.
15:29He said,
15:29I'm just a guy who's covered lots of teams, good and bad.
15:31The bad ones always had an exec using the, quote,
15:34Things are happening that fans can't see bit.
15:36I would respectfully not say that.
15:39Yes, because I think those questions come when teams are playing badly.
15:43Does that make sense?
15:44No one's asking the Seattle Seahawks right now,
15:46Hey, fans are worried.
15:48Because what are you worried about?
15:50It's fair.
15:50So, of course,
15:52The execs speak like this,
15:53Because they're getting questions.
15:55And I like Scott Abraham,
15:56But I thought it was on August, whatever.
15:58It's kind of strange to be like,
15:59What hope do you have in the roster?
16:01On the 0-0 team that you just built?
16:04What hope do you have in the team?
16:06To me, that was a strange wording of a question.
16:08I'm not taking a shot at Scottie.
16:09I like Scottie.
16:10But like,
16:11If I'm Adam Peters,
16:12I don't know what the hope,
16:13The roster that I just built?
16:14What hope do I have?
16:15I get some hope here.
16:17Hopefully a lot.
16:18I just spent a lot of time crafting this roster.
16:21It's like a question you ask when they're 2-7.
16:24And the season's spiraling down the drain.
16:26Hey, fans are really upset.
16:28No one wants to go to the game this weekend.
16:29You guys got blown out by 30 this week.
16:31What hope do you have?
16:33For the 0-0 team that hasn't started the season yet?
16:36We got some hope.
16:37This is the time for a little bit of hope.
