00:00We're going to welcome on Daryl Ryder, brought to you by Scheiben Jewelers, Cleveland's premier
00:04jewelry store.
00:05Daryl, welcome to the show.
00:06Hello, boys.
00:07Hello.
00:08How you doing?
00:09I'm good.
00:09Yeah, that was on Mark Koch, I think.
00:11You were very, you came in very hot there.
00:13Very hot.
00:14Sorry about that.
00:15No, no, no.
00:15That's not your fault.
00:16Oh, not you.
00:16No, no, no.
00:17We blame the ginger board op now.
00:19It's his fault.
00:20You're new Mac now.
00:21Get over it.
00:23All right.
00:23New Mac.
00:24So I've made four bold proclamations, Daryl.
00:27And I want you to tell me which one's the hottest take or the boldest opinion.
00:32You ready for them?
00:33Yep.
00:33Okay.
00:34One, if Quinchon Judkins plays 15 or more games, he will be top five in rushing yards this season.
00:41Two, Harold Fannin Jr. will get at least 1,000 yards receiving this year.
00:46Three, the Browns will win eight games.
00:50And four, the Browns will beat Jacksonville week one.
00:54Which one of those do you find most piquant?
00:57Um, what happened to the 10-gamer in the playoff berth?
01:01I honestly don't know what you're talking about with that one.
01:03Yeah.
01:04Um, very curious that all of a sudden now them winning eight games is a bold prediction.
01:09Are you sure you're not confusing me with Mac?
01:11Because Mac was like 13 games.
01:13Yeah, he was like 13.
01:15I've got an existing burger bet with Mac.
01:17Yeah, top two finisher in the league.
01:20I tried voiding it.
01:21He didn't want to.
01:22You were a double digit.
01:23You were a 10-win guy in playoffs.
01:27Jonathan, do you remember this?
01:28I honestly don't remember this.
01:29I do remember at one point you were going between 8, 9, 10.
01:32But I don't think you ever said 10 wins and a playoff experience.
01:35I thought there was a burger attached to this.
01:36I was under an impression we were putting a burger attached to this.
01:38No, now you're just, now you're just.
01:38I think you're trying to backdoor a burger.
01:41And we're not that kind of show.
01:44Well, hey, Daryl.
01:45If you remember it that way, who am I to tell your memory is wrong?
01:47I did, I did offer, with nothing coming back to me if it doesn't happen, but if the Browns
01:54do go 2-0, Deshaun Watson has a positive touchdown to interception ratio and a quarterback rating
02:01north of 97.5, you have a burger coming to you, Nick.
02:05I think it was 90.
02:06I don't remember.
02:06You keep enhancing these numbers.
02:08No, I'm not enhancing anything.
02:10Why would he come up with 97.5?
02:12That's too specific to just come up with.
02:15I said 90, I'm pretty sure.
02:17You're right.
02:17Nick doesn't work in 97.5, though.
02:19Yeah, that's not how my brain works.
02:21That's not really how he operates at any point.
02:23My dad did work at 97.5 for a while.
02:25All right, but you didn't answer the damn question.
02:27I'm going to say, I think the quench on things, definitely achievable.
02:33Same thing with fan.
02:36I'm going to say the 8 wins.
02:38I'll give you the, even though you backed off too, I still think 8 wins is somewhat bold
02:44for this football team.
02:45I think the quench on one is the boldest one that he's got, if I'm being, well, he added
02:49week one against Jacksonville as a win.
02:51I think that one's incredibly bold too, because I just don't think that's going to happen.
02:55The quench on one is one that I feel like I'm on the different end of the spectrum than
02:59everybody else on this.
03:00And so let's talk it out for a second, Daryl.
03:02If he's going to need around 1,400 yards to be top five in rushing, he's going to have
03:05to be better than James Cook, Derrick Henry, Jonathan Taylor, B. John Robinson, and A. Chan.
03:09Those were your top five from last year.
03:12So he's going to have to do a lot more than 3.6 yards per attempt, which means he's going
03:17to need a better offensive line.
03:18All those guys average north of five yards per carry.
03:21He obviously in quench on was nowhere close to the bottom of the NFL as far as yards per
03:25attempt while having a not great offensive line.
03:28And so I just, I don't think that's, I don't think it's possible.
03:30And some of this is not even in complete control of quench on it's the idea that the offensive
03:34line isn't good enough to get them to be a top five running back.
03:36Well, um, and you know, the offensive line is obviously newly rebuilt.
03:42Still don't know who's going to be the starting right guard.
03:44Will it be, uh, Tevin Jenkins?
03:46Will it be Austin Barber?
03:48Uh, you could have two rookies there.
03:51Um, this is a line that's built on flexibility and versatility more so than guys that are top
03:57performers at their respective positions.
04:00And a lot of that has to do with the trauma that they went through in recent years, uh,
04:04with the, the various, uh, changes that they were forced to make in season because of injuries.
04:10I think quench on's got the physical gifts and ability.
04:14Uh, he's, he's coming back healthy this year.
04:17I don't think even with the two rookie wide receivers and all the positivity surrounding
04:23them, I just think that the, the, the quarterback room has got awful.
04:27And so I think they're going to have to lean heavily on the success of their run game to
04:32help set up the effectiveness.
04:35But they did that, they did that last year too, though.
04:36I mean, he had the same number of attempts per game as Bijon Robinson.
04:39He was top seven in the, in the NFL, as far as attempts per game.
04:42Uh, so like, it's not, it's not like, I think people think that quench on was like, I mean,
04:46he got worn down last year a little bit because the injuries and also because the,
04:50don't we have to put that into the equation as well for this year?
04:52I would think.
04:53Yeah.
04:54Um, but, uh, I'm, you know, slate is clean.
04:57He looks like he is back to being what we saw for his first, uh, eight, nine games, uh,
05:06before he got hurt.
05:07And, uh, because he did start off hot.
05:10Yeah.
05:10I mean, he was one of the better runners in yards after contact for their first stretch,
05:15but then it started to decrease incrementally.
05:18And I think that part of that had to do with just the, the attrition of the season and
05:22him kind of starting to wear down a little bit.
05:24Then obviously he, he got hurt and his season got cut short, but I think that he's got the,
05:29uh, he's got the talent.
05:31And I think this, uh, the way this quarterback room shapes up, I think he's going to have
05:36an opportunity to have a very big year for the Browns.
05:38All right.
05:39That is no longer a hot take.
05:40Then if Daryl's co-opting it and it feels like everybody else is co-opting 1400 yards for,
05:44uh, for quench on that, I guess it's just not a hot take.
05:46I'm sorry, Nick.
05:47All right.
05:47Uh, apology not accepted.
05:49Uh, Daryl, Kat Hickman spoke today.
05:52I'm kidding.
05:53I always accept your apologies.
05:54We're bros.
05:54Come on now.
05:55Uh, Kat Hickman spoke today.
05:57It wasn't an apology.
05:58I heard an apology.
06:00Uh, Kat Hickman spoke today and a lot of people on the internet seem to be making something
06:06out of the sweater she was wearing that says Los Angeles made me do it.
06:10I, I thought it was a reference to the ice cube song, uh, gangster rap made me do it.
06:16That's what you thought.
06:18That's essentially that line that the Los Angeles made me do it is owed to that song.
06:23Sure.
06:23It's not from that song, but that's, it's been co-opted from that.
06:25I know, but you're saying Kat Hickman isn't an ice cube fan.
06:28I know that's the, yes, that's the reach I'm going to make there is yes.
06:31I don't, I think instead of it being her being a big ice cube fan, it was more probably something
06:36to do with miles Garrett and a Rams trade.
06:38Do we know if there was any meaning behind the, uh, the sweater there, Daryl?
06:42Um, no, I, I, I did not.
06:45Uh, uh, I do know as she came to the podium questions were asked about, uh, the, the, the
06:52sweatshirt.
06:53She, she was not really in a, uh, an expansive mood on the subject or just about any other
06:58subject for that matter for the 12 minutes we talked to her.
07:02But, um, yeah, I, I, I, I don't know about the choice of sweatshirt.
07:07I, I also don't believe though it had anything to do with miles Garrett.
07:12I, I, I don't know that she, I just, I mean, what other inference could we possibly make when
07:17you do something that says Los Angeles made me do it and the entire, the entire time that
07:21they've done this, they've been like, well, we didn't want to trade.
07:23Miles Garrett, but the Rams just made it too enticing for us.
07:26Like, I, I just think we're being dense if we don't think it had anything to do with
07:28miles Garrett.
07:29Yeah.
07:30I think you're, she's from Canada.
07:32It's not like she has any connection to California.
07:34They don't listen to ice cube in.
07:35No, she just has no connection to Los Angeles.
07:37No connection to California.
07:38The through line is pretty simple.
07:40It's miles Garrett.
07:41I, I, I think we're reaching a little, I don't think she was trying to send any message
07:45about miles Garrett or trading miles Garrett there.
07:48It was also like, um, I think.
07:51It was also like all cut up.
07:55Like it had like, I know that would just have, that was just happenstance.
07:59And that wasn't part of the design.
08:00I maintained it was part of the design of the shirt.
08:02Yeah.
08:03I think it's part of the design of the shirt.
08:04We split that.
08:05He agrees with me that it's not about miles Garrett, but you're right about the style
08:09side of it.
08:09Hey, 50, 50.
08:10Look at that.
08:11How about us?
08:11It was, listen, you're not wrong.
08:13It was an interesting wardrobe choice when she stepped to the microphones today that I will
08:17grant that.
08:18I mean, how many times, how many times do any of these assistants go in?
08:21They're not wearing anything.
08:22That's just Brown's team issued gear.
08:23Is it, is that more of a common occurrence than I realize?
08:26No, they are usually in Brown's gear.
08:29Okay.
08:30Usually.
08:30All right.
08:31No, she just maybe had some real, real ice cube thoughts.
08:33She wanted to get off her chest there.
08:34I don't know.
08:35Oh, all right.
08:35Daryl, let me ask you this.
08:36Then she wanted to get off her chest.
08:40We're going to be honest about it.
08:41Cause she didn't want to say anything today.
08:44Yeah.
08:45Um, has Todd Munkin already lost the fans?
08:47No, I don't think so.
08:49Not yet.
08:50I think he was off to a really good start.
08:53The Deshaun decision doesn't help him, but I also think that, um, folks, I also need to
09:01understand, and this isn't me defending Deshaun by any stretch of the imagination, but, um,
09:07um, this is a guy who has waited forever in his professional life to become a head coach.
09:14And I think that it speaks to something that his first major decision as a head coach is
09:23to put Deshaun out there as a starting quarterback.
09:26And I don't know that I kind of feel like no one wants to really accept that Shador Sanders
09:33just is not there yet.
09:35And that while you, me, and just about everyone else, except for the friends, relatives, as
09:42well as employees of the Cleveland Browns, don't think Deshaun has anything left to offer
09:47in the, in regards to anything resembling competent play, um, that they clearly feel he's the
09:58best at this given time.
10:01And, um, so I'm willing to accept that aspect of it.
10:07And again, I just, I don't see Todd Munkin making a decision like that.
10:12Um, just, you know, off the cuff or, uh, you know, I really think that Shador got a solid
10:22opportunity.
10:23I thought it was as fair as it gets, uh, for sports.
10:26I mean, there's really nothing in life that's all that fair, but I thought that Todd tried
10:30to make things as fair for Shador Sanders as possible.
10:34And he just, he's not ready yet.
10:37And, you know, that's now two coaching staffs that have said that this kid isn't ready yet.
10:43He's a fifth round pick.
10:44It's understandable, but at some point, Shador Sanders is going to have to be ready because
10:48I just don't think that there's going to be a lot of longevity behind this decision.
10:54Yeah.
10:55I think that's where maybe my annoyance comes in here is, uh, for a team that, again, I
11:00think they can win seven or eight games.
11:02I think they're going to be very competitive no matter what their record is.
11:05And I'm excited about that.
11:07I am excited about the season in spite of the Deshaun stuff.
11:10Right.
11:10When, when people come out and go, well, they just think Deshaun gives you the best chance
11:14to win.
11:15It's such a loaded situation with Deshaun.
11:18Right.
11:18Now it's become your ass better win because if you lose because of Deshaun week one, I'm
11:25going to have to eviscerate you.
11:27And that's not really where I want to be after one week.
11:29No.
11:29And you're right.
11:31You better win.
11:31It better work.
11:32Right.
11:32Um, and, and if it doesn't, we, we all know what it's, uh, what the atmosphere is going
11:40to be like, especially come week three.
11:42And do you really want your first home game of a season, uh, to be hostile?
11:50And let's be honest about it.
11:51Browns fan can be pretty hostile if, if, uh, they don't, uh, uh, like what they see.
11:57And rightfully so they've been through enough as a fan base.
12:00Um, and that's something that's, that this organization, I think takes their eye off of,
12:06um, every year is a clean slate for them.
12:08And it's like, well, when you haven't delivered anything in 27 years for fans that fought to
12:14get the team back and that quite frankly feel that all you do is take advantage of their
12:20loyalty, um, yeah, they're going to feel a certain way about that.
12:25And then when you ask them to compromise their moral integrity, to get behind a guy that you
12:31bring in here, that it was supposed to be the missing piece to the puzzle and the missing
12:36piece to sustain success and the losing continues.
12:39And that player is just frankly not available to play.
12:41And when he is available to play, he's the worst quarterback in the national football
12:45league and you guys went ahead and gave him a record fully guaranteed contract that is,
12:50uh, you know, just hanging over the organization like a black cloud and frankly, holding the
12:58organization back.
12:59Cause you can't get rid of them and get out of that thing.
13:02Yeah.
13:02Fans are going to get testy about it.
13:04And while I understand you can't make organizational decisions based on fan sentiment, I do feel like
13:11this was one where fan sentiment should have been taking into account.
13:15At some point.
13:16And for the head coach to get up there yesterday and say, yeah, I never watched any of the
13:20Deshaun film before I got here, you know, no need to clean slate for everybody.
13:24And I, I, I believe if you're on this team, you're elite, et cetera, et cetera.
13:29I understand the message that he was trying to project there also kind of a little tone
13:35deaf because how do you take the job without having watched any tape of any of the players
13:40you may be stuck with, especially quarterbacks.
13:43And then also too, how do you not, or how do you put together an offense without having
13:47the informed knowledge of what this guy can and cannot do for you, uh, going forward.
13:55So I don't believe for one second that in that instance, Todd Munkin was being, uh, completely
14:00truthful when he said it, but I also kind of felt that was a little bit of a tone deaf
14:03statement on, on his part yesterday.
14:06Darrell, we appreciate you, buddy.
14:08Thank you so much.
14:08We'll catch up with you next week ahead of the Jacksonville game.
14:11Thank you, Darrell.
14:11You bet.
14:11By the way, six wins.
14:13That's, that's where I'm at.
14:15That's a lock it in.
14:16That's a lock it in.
14:17Six wins.
14:19All right.
14:19We'll revisit this next week.
14:21JP also is at six wins.
14:22I don't know if that's going to change your mind.
14:23We're six win brothers, Darrell.
14:25Okay.
14:26That doesn't change my mind, but I'm going to lock it in at six wins.
14:29That's where they're at.
14:29How would that change your mind?
14:31Well, the only thing that's going to change my mind is if someone other than Deshaun
14:33Watson starts football games sooner rather than later, then I, maybe I'd be willing to
14:37up it, but you don't get to do that.
14:39I know locked in at six wins, sir.
14:41I'm locked in at six.
