00:00Temperatures rise to the high 20s for one day only on Sunday. It's also looking quite windy across northern areas
00:07in particular.
00:08Saturday though brings plenty of dry and fine weather. We've had quite an active jet stream so far this week.
00:14Now we'll buckle to the north to allow this high pressure to move in through Saturday.
00:18But then it drives this next area of low pressure up to the north and west for Sunday.
00:23So it's going to be a big difference northwest to southeast through Sunday.
00:26Wet and windy across northwestern areas. Drier and quite warm. In fact hot across more southern and eastern areas.
00:35But for Saturday a widely fine day is on the cards. It's likely to be quite a fresh start.
00:40Temperatures will be lower than they have been to start the day.
00:43Plenty of sunshine as well through the day. A little bit more cloud developing across western areas by the end
00:48of the day.
00:49That's as we start to see the first signs of this area of low pressure out across parts of northern
00:54Ireland and western areas of the UK.
00:56But for many of us it's going to be a fine and relatively calm day. Plenty of sunshine.
01:01After the fresher start temperatures have got quite a long way to go through the day.
01:04So the highest temperatures are expected across the south. 23 to 24 degrees in the mid to higher teens as
01:11we head further north.
01:12So a bit cooler than it has been for the past few days. Temperatures quite close to average for Saturday.
01:18That is set to change into Sunday. Temperatures are going to rise across much of England and Wales.
01:24But just for one day it does look a little bit cooler into next week.
01:27That's because we drive up these southerly winds from the near continent.
01:30It's warming up across parts of northwest Europe as well through this weekend.
01:35But up to the north and west this deep area of low pressure will push up to the north and
01:40west.
01:40Driving in weather fronts that will bring some rain.
01:42But also strengthening the winds across some areas of northwest Scotland.
01:47So the heaviest rain is expected to be through the early hours of Sunday across the north and west.
01:53Bands of heavy and showery rain will push in.
01:57Now ahead of that it's actually looking pretty dry across the bulk of the country.
02:00You can see a little bit of rain here on the graphics.
02:03I think very little of that rain is expected to reach the ground.
02:06But it might just introduce a little bit more cloud across some areas of the south coast.
02:11And then later on into the evening they should drift further north and eastwards into parts of the Midlands and
02:18south and eastern England.
02:21But a cloudy and breezy afternoon across the north and west.
02:24Around this area of low pressure we could see gale force winds.
02:27Winds in excess of 50 miles per hour for a time across northwestern areas.
02:32So we could see some impacts from that wind.
02:35It's worth keeping an eye on the forecast.
02:36And taking note that it's going to be a windy day across the northwest on Sunday.
02:41Also quite a wet one.
02:42As I said the most rainfall or the highest rainfall totals are expected across the northwest.
02:47As you can see here throughout Saturday night into Sunday.
02:50Northern Ireland, parts of the Highlands in particular.
02:52Some southwestern areas of Scotland as well as parts of Cumbria for example.
02:57The Lake District could see some quite heavy rain throughout Sunday.
03:00Up to around 50 to 60 millimetres is the highest total.
03:04So there's a little bit of uncertainty in exactly how much rainfall.
03:07We're not expecting too much in the way of impacts from this rain.
03:10But it's certainly going to be a much wetter day across the northwest compared to the southeast.
03:14You can see here there is potential for a little bit of rain across more southern areas of the UK.
03:20This rainfall could be anywhere across the south coast.
03:23Just we've got the potential to see some of that cloud develop.
03:25But I think there's a very slim chance of any of this rain really reaching the ground.
03:30But it will introduce a little bit more cloud.
03:32Which means temperatures are expected to climb to the high 20s.
03:36There's a possibility we could get to 30 degrees.
03:39But I think it's a pretty low chance considering we could see a little bit of cloud.
03:42But we will be keeping you updated on that.
03:44Because that is quite a notable statistic if we do get 30 degrees in September.
03:48It would be the fifth consecutive month this year.
03:51Which has not happened all that often.
03:54But the highest we are expecting is 28 or 29 across some central and eastern areas of England.
04:01Widely though it's going to be a hot day.
04:04Temperatures in the mid-20s across England and Wales.
04:07Much cooler though across the north and west.
04:09A warmer day than Saturday but certainly a much windier one as I mentioned.
04:14So a real mixed picture north west to south east.
04:17If you're looking for dry weather well your best bet is on Saturday for the weekend.
04:21With that high pressure dominating next week we continue to see this unsettled picture.
04:26The jet stream returns driving some quite deep areas of low pressure potentially throughout Tuesday.
04:31Though there is a little bit of lower confidence on exactly where this area of low pressure will be on
04:36Tuesday.
04:36So if you're interested in that keep updated throughout the weekend.
04:40We will be here keeping you up to date.
