00:07Good morning everyone, Donald Trump promised to lower costs on day one.
00:16But under Donald Trump and Republican control of government, costs in the United States
00:21of America haven't gone down, they've gone up.
00:24Life has gotten far too expensive in this country and Republicans don't give a damn about
00:33it.
00:35The Republican priorities, as evidenced by the one big ugly bill, in the entire Congress
00:43has been focused on ripping healthcare away from the American people, enacting the largest
00:50cut to nutritional assistance in American history, literally stealing food from the mouths
00:56of seniors, hungry children and veterans, giving ICE billions of taxpayer dollars to brutalize
01:08and kill American citizens, all to reward their billionaire donors with massive tax breaks.
01:17Life hasn't gotten better.
01:18Under the Republican controlled Congress, life has gotten worse.
01:23And we need a dramatic change in direction.
01:27House Democrats will continue to focus on fighting for an affordable America, lowering the high
01:35costs of groceries, gas and housing.
01:41We're committed to making healthcare affordable for every single American.
01:47And at the same time, to combating corruption.
01:51And holding the crooks accountable, beginning on day one.
01:59Because there's a direct link between the unbelievable levels of corruption being visited on the American
02:07people and the continued rise in the cost of living.
02:14If you have people in high office in this town who are so focused on enriching themselves, their
02:23family members and their donors, that means they're not focused on making life better for
02:28everyday Americans.
02:31And it's one of the many reasons why the economy under Donald Trump and Republicans is a disaster.
02:39It continues to move in the wrong direction.
02:43The decisions that have been made, like this reckless and costly war of choice in Iran,

03:01And as you consider what formal punishment might look like, how much of this is precedent
03:05setting in your mind for a possible future majority?

04:15Well, with respect to that question, as we've indicated, the caucus is engaging in a family
04:23discussion about how we all move forward together.
04:30The Congresswoman, as well as soon-to-be Chairman Jim McGovern, had a conversation yesterday,
04:40which was an important thing, and are going to resolve any differences that exist.
04:49Because both of them, as is the case with the entirety of the House Democratic Caucus, understand
04:56what the stakes are in terms of defeating MAGA extremism in November.
05:02And then, as Democrats, getting off to a fast start in January.
05:07Mr. Leader, just to that end, can you give us a sense, as Republicans prepare to meet in
05:13Dallas next week for their midterm convention, what to expect from Democrats in terms of counter-programming?
05:20Well, I expected there's going to be robust engagement by Democrats, in part led by the Texas Democratic Party,
05:27along with participation from House Democrats, Senate Democrats, as well as Democratic governors
05:34from different parts of the country.
05:37Listen, the fact that these Republicans are planning a celebration in the middle of an economic
05:45crisis where everyday Americans are drowning because of this high cost of living is extraordinary.
05:55How many different ways can Donald Trump and Republicans communicate to the American people
06:00that they don't give a damn about their health, safety, and economic well-being?
06:06This is an extraordinary decision in the middle of a very challenging economy, an ongoing war
06:14of choice in the Middle East.
06:17And the failure for Republicans to solve a single problem on behalf of the American people,
06:24that Donald Trump and Republicans have decided to spend several days celebrating during a so-called
06:31midterm convention with their billionaire donors who they have been doing favors for throughout
06:40this entire Congress.

06:44There's been a lot of discussion this week about possible rule changes in the House.
06:48If you are in the majority next year and you are in the speakership, are you planning to change
06:53the Speaker's lobby's rules to allow speakers?
06:59That is a good question.
07:00I do lean in that direction, but these are all issues for us to resolve after the fact.
07:08We're going to remain focused on November 3rd.
07:13And when the American people give us the opportunity to govern on their behalf, we'll focus on what
07:20needs to happen on January 3rd and beyond.
07:23Our core promise to the American people is that every day, every week, every month, year after year,
07:32we're going to fight to make their life better, to dramatically address the cost of living crisis,
07:40and to focus on the things that we know matter to the American people as opposed to what we've seen
07:48from the Republican-controlled Congress.
07:50Peter Jeffrey, along those lines, Leader Schumer this week introduced a bill that would repeal
07:56the law used to put 50% tariffs on Canadian products and also would make illegal the global
08:02tariffs of 10 or 12.5%, the forced labor tariffs.
08:07If you win the majority, will that be a priority for you?
08:12And if so, how will you work to find Republicans to get you to a veto-proof majority on this
08:17bill?
08:17Well, the Trump tariffs have increased costs on everyday Americans by thousands of dollars
08:23per year and have contributed to the failed economy that exists under Republican control
08:29of Washington that is drowning the American people.
08:34We've made clear, repeatedly, led by Congressman Greg Meeks, Congressman Richie Neal, Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, and others,
08:44that we will aggressively push back against the Trump tariffs.
08:48And hopefully, in the new Congress, we'll see some of our Republican colleagues join us in the effort to stand
08:58up for everyday Americans.

09:46vote after discharge petition vote on issues that matter to the American people.
09:52We forced Republicans to vote on a three year extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits over the objection
10:00of Donald Trump and Mike Johnson, unifying every single House Democrat, and we won.
10:05We forced Republicans to vote on repealing the Trump tariffs directed at Canada, and we won.
10:15We forced Republicans to vote on repealing an executive order that Donald Trump issued with respect to ripping away collective
10:25bargaining rights from federal employees, and we won.

10:32We forced Republicans, over the objection of Donald Trump and Mike Johnson, unifying every single Democrat, to vote on extending
10:40temporary protected status for Haitian migrants on the floor of the House of Representatives, and we won.

11:42There's a conventional wisdom that if you guys take the majority in December, you'll just kick the can down with
11:48another continuing resolution to next year.
11:50Is that what you're going to be seeking if you get the majority as far as a lame duck?
11:53Under the leadership of Rosa DeLauro, she's indicated that the spending bill that will now lapse as a result of
12:02the continuing resolution to December 11th will give the appropriators the ability in a bipartisan way to actually try to
12:12get to a bipartisan agreement on making sure that we are spending taxpayer dollars
12:20in a way that promotes the health, the safety, and the economic well-being of the American people.
12:27Leader Jeffries, what is your message the next year to some of these Democratic Socialist candidates who are going to
12:33be coming into the caucus?
12:35And are you confident that your leadership team was communicating appropriately over this vote?
12:42And is there anything that needs to be shored up on the leadership side of things for next year?
12:46We have an amazing leadership team.
12:50Catherine Clark has been a tremendous whip.
12:53Pete Aguilar has been a tremendous chair of the caucus.
12:56Joe Nagus is doing an amazing job as assistant leader and also in heading up the effort in terms of
13:04the Rapid Response and Litigation Task Force.
13:06Ted Liu is doing a great job as vice chair.
13:09And the House Democratic Caucus is unified in our commitment to ending this national nightmare that's in front of us
13:19right now.
13:19And we know that the only path to doing it is for all of us to continue to lock in
13:26and take back the majority on November 3rd.

13:32The President told a group of battleground Republicans in the Rose Garden last night that he was going to be
13:37focusing on 35 key races going forward,
13:41putting in basements from his political operation, doing tele-town halls.
13:46Elon Musk has started spending.
13:48Do you think that this changes the dynamic of the race at all?
13:52Are you confident that House Democrats and D-Trip will have enough resources to compete with the onslaught that will
13:58probably be coming in the next month or so?
14:00Just how do you view kind of the money that's about to be poured in and the attention that Musk
14:04and Trump are about to play in these key races?
14:06Two things are important.
14:07We're going to have the resources necessary in order to re-elect our frontline members and flip more than enough
14:14seats to take back control of the House of Representatives.
14:16The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, under the partnership and leadership of Susan DelVene, along with all of the House Democrats,
14:26year to date and cycle to date, has outraised the Republican National Campaign Committee.
14:35We're in the minority, and we've outraised our Republican colleagues who have a president engaging in perhaps the largest pay
14:47-to-play scheme in the history of the country.
14:50House Democrats have outraised House Republicans.
14:55And by the way, our super PAC has raised a record amount of resources.
15:05Because the American people know that the best path for us to change direction in this country is for Democrats
15:15to take back control of the House of Representatives.
15:19Thank you, Mr. Leader. Can you just make it clear to the American people why Democrats frown upon the two
15:25members of the conference that chose to break ranks to vote with Republicans to disavow socialism?
15:30Is it being against socialism in line with the exact values that members of Congress vowed to uphold when they
15:36swore an oath to defend the Constitution?
15:38My comments as it relates to the resolution have been crystal clear.
15:47In that resolution, Republicans called for the enactment of the so-called Save America Act,
15:56which is voter suppression legislation that is designed to try to prevent a free and fair election from taking place
16:06in November as part of Donald Trump's scheme to rig the midterm elections.
16:13There is no part of the so-called Save America Act, which is voter suppression legislation, particularly in the aftermath
16:23of the Supreme Court's decision to gut the Voting Rights Act and unleash Jim Crow-like tactics on the American
16:30people in the Deep South.
16:31There is no part of the so-called Save America Act that I can support.
16:37There is no resolution connected to voter suppression legislation that I will in any way support.
16:45And that is why the overwhelming majority of Democrats strongly oppose, in my view, that resolution.
16:53We've all been clear, and I've been personally clear, on the fact that I support the free enterprise system.
17:03But we've got to make sure that capitalism works for working class Americans, for everyday Americans, and for middle class
17:13Americans.
17:14Because in this country right now, far too many people are working hard, they're playing by the rules, but they
17:20can't thrive and they can barely survive.
17:24This is in the wealthiest country in the history of the world.
17:27That's unacceptable.
17:29And so we've got to make sure that we fix a broken system because the debt has been stacked against
17:36everyday Americans in this economy for far too long.
17:40And what Republicans have done is to do everything possible to continue to benefit their donors, the wealthy, the well
17:49-off, and the well-connected.
17:50And that has to end.
17:52And as House Democrats, we're going to fight hard for an affordable America and fight hard to make sure that
17:59everyone in this great country of ours can live a good life, an affordable life, and a comfortable life.
