00:00I found this old beat-up table on the side of the road, and I knew I could put some
00:04more life into it.
00:05By using my hands, I was able to actually remove the screws for the legs and take them right out.
00:10Pop them out, and then also some of the supports I could take out by just snapping them.
00:15So, back in my shop, I was able to take a wrench and start removing some of the screws enough
00:19to where I could then take it off by hand.
00:22Once I was able to pop those out, then I could get some sandpaper and take off some of the
00:26ugliness to it.
00:27Because I want to prime these and paint these, and I need it to be roughed up and get rid
00:31of the sheen to stick.
00:33But first, before I prime it, I'm going to cut at the very bottom a wedge on there, on both
00:38sides.
00:39It's going to give me a little bit of a spike there, that way I can pound it into the
00:43ground.
00:44Once I got those done to three of my legs, I was able to take them out and very nightly,
00:48with a hammer, tap them into the ground.
00:51Now, this is a primer, spray primer, and it goes on.
00:54And you want to do this before you paint, because it gives the paint something to adhere to.
01:00Let it dry for about 30 minutes, and then I can start putting our favorite colors on.
01:03I went ahead with a yellow, a red, and again, only one coat was needed because it was a really
01:09good primer.
01:10And then after I got the red on, I switched over to a blue.
01:14And I thought these colors were looking really good.
01:16But, while those were drying, I took a scrap piece of quarter inch board, and I cut them to three
01:22equal sides.
01:23And then I could take them, and I cut little wedges on the top of each one, to make it
01:28look like a little house.
01:30Now, back outside on some cardboard, I used some of that primer, and I primed all of the boards, just
01:36one coat.
01:37That's all I needed.
01:38And then I made sure I got all of the edges done also.
01:41Once those dried, I took it in, and it was a family affair.
01:44I was able to start coloring and painting on one of mine.
01:47This is my daughter coloring and painting on one of hers.
01:51And then this is my wife, and she was working with some sunflowers.
01:54So all three of us got a chance.
01:56Now, once they were all done, brought the legs in, put some hot glue down, and I was able to
02:01put those in place and hold them until the hot glue dried.
02:04And then, right below the little black hole there, I got a wood dowel, and I held it in place.
02:10Once all that's done, I can then pound all three of those around, and look at this.
02:16It made such a nice little faux birdhouse.
02:20It looked really good.

02:33The next time you're at Dollar Tree, head to their garden aisle and pick up three of their large garden
02:38pots.
02:39And then, to begin my project, I'm going to take my first pot, and then using some strong adhesive, I'm
02:44using clear Gorilla Glue here.
02:46I'm going to flip it over, and then I'm going to just add some dots of glue onto the raised
02:51edges of the bottom of the pot.
02:53And then, I'm going to go ahead and take a second pot, and I'm going to place it on top,
02:57but right side up.
02:58And I'm also going to make sure that the patterns are lined up on the outsides of the pot.
03:03I'm going to stick a heavy object in here just to weigh it down while the glue sets.
03:08And then, I'm going to go ahead, and once the glue is set, I'm going to take some more Gorilla
03:12Glue, and just placing it around the top edge rim of the pot.
03:16I'm going to take my next pot, and I'm going to stick it on top.
03:19Before I do that, though, I just want to weigh it down, so I'm just going to stick in some
03:23river rocks there.
03:25Once the glue is dry, I'm going to come in with my favorite color here from Country Chic Paint, which
03:29is a nice white string of pearls, and I'm going to paint the whole structure, top and bottom.
03:35And then, once that paint is just a little bit, almost dry, actually, I'm going to come in with some
03:41blue acrylic paint, and just spread it through the white paint, kind of pulling the white paint out, to give
03:46it this sky-like finish.
03:48Then, I'm going to let that dry, and then I'm going to put the top of my birdbath on here.
03:53So, this is just a plate that I picked up from Walmart.
03:56It's just a, it was off their clearance rack, really cheap, but it's also very, it has a wide edge,
04:02so it will fill with water nicely, but not too much.
04:06And then, I'm going to go ahead, and I have these little birds here from my own old decor collection,
04:11and I thought they'd just look nice sitting on top here, so I've glued those in place with the Gorilla
04:15Glue as well.
04:17Then, I'm going to come and take it outside, and just to fill in this unfinished edge of the pot,
04:21where it's flipped upside down, I'm going to fill it with some white river rock that I just picked up
04:26from my local dollar store, just to give it a more clean, finished look.
04:29And my birdbath is complete, so I can fill it with water, and place it out in my garden.
04:35What I like about this is it adds a nice pop of color to my garden, and a nice place
04:40for birds to come and have a little bath.
04:42So, I really hope that you enjoyed this project.
04:45I hope that it inspires you to get creative, and really have fun with this one.
04:50Choose your own paint colors, colors that you like, and your own design of pots.
04:54Get really creative, and do something that suits your garden.
04:57This project starts out with a little wood birdhouse, and I'm going to give it a coat of white chalk
05:03paint.
05:03Now, I'm taking a little bit of a dark brown chalk paint, and I'm going to do the roof.
05:08Now, I have this unfinished candlestick, and just one last thing to paint.
05:14I have this little terracotta dish that goes under a pot.
05:17Now, I collected some pine cones from my backyard, and I am going to make, like, a little thatched roof
05:24on the birdhouse with little pieces of pine cones.
05:27Now that we have the roof done, I want to add a little detail to the house.
05:32See how cute that looks?
05:33And I am going to glue the candlestick to the middle of the terracotta dish and my birdhouse.
05:41And I also have this small, little, thin grapevine wreath I'm going to add.
05:46Another little natural element.
05:48Now, we just have to secure this to the top of the candlestick.
05:53And for one final touch, and there you have it.
05:57A really sweet little project.
06:00I have some terracotta pieces I'm going to be using.
06:03Terracotta is a porous material, which means that water seeps through it slowly.
06:08I have a triple-thick clear glaze protectant, and I'm going to give the pieces I'm using a couple coats
06:14of that.
06:15While the glaze is drying, I'm going to spray the back sides of both of these terracotta pots with some
06:20spray paint.
06:21I have a light gray color.
06:24The glaze is dry on the terracotta dish, and I'm going to use the same spray paint I did the
06:29pots and give this a quick coat on both sides.
06:33The paint is dry, and now I'm going to glue the pots together.
06:36I'm using a strong glue that is good for marine use, so it's watertight.
06:44I'm going to put these aside so the glue can dry, and we're going to work on the next part.
06:52And I'm going to take my tile adhesive, and I'm going to start in small sections.
06:57I'm going to put some adhesive down, and I'm going to start placing some beach glass, or sea glass.
07:09I've called it beach glass since I was little.
07:14And I'm going to try to fill up all the space.
07:31All right, we're going to need to let this dry overnight, and we'll come back tomorrow and finish it up.
07:36So the tile adhesives all set and dried, and now we're going to grout our project.
07:52While I'm waiting for the grout to dry on what's going to be the top of my birdbath, I grab
07:57the base, and I'm going to add a little color detail to the gray.
08:02And the technique I'm going to use is called dry brushing.
08:05Dry brushing is, you take a, I usually use one of these little chip brushes, and lightly dip the end
08:12of the bristles into it.
08:14And then I kind of just dab off most of the paint.
08:20And then just kind of lightly brush it on whatever project I'm working on.
08:26And I think this will be dry by the time the grout's dry, and then we can put it all
08:30together and bring it outside to the garden.
08:33Everything's dry.
08:34I had cleared off the excess grout, and this is what the dish looks like.
08:39Isn't that so pretty?
08:40I'm finishing it off.
08:41I'm going to use the same clear glaze I sealed the pots with and put a coat on everything and
08:45make it have a nice little sheen.
