00:00Up to 2015, Britain was paying the slave masters, you know, because we were being
00:11considered property. And the question really should be if in modern times we're
00:19still paying back the slave masters for the property that was our people, our
00:24ancestors for property that was because of the abolition of slavery, then why
00:34shouldn't we be pursuing some remedy at this time? Jamaica has been working on a
00:40position on reparatory justice for some time and we wanted certain questions
00:50answered by the king. And we recognize that the judicial system here, that the
01:03Privy Council, is very known for being one of the best in the world. And so we, Jamaica,
01:14made a decision that we would petition the king on behalf of the people of
01:21Jamaica, inviting his majesty to refer to the judicial committee of the Privy
01:29Council questions of the lawfulness of the seizure, transportation, chattelization, and
01:38enslavement of our African ancestors. And it's very important because there are
01:45three questions and once these questions are answered, then we would determine the
01:51next steps.
