High tension erupted outside the Telangana Legislative Assembly on the opening day of the session as a protest by opposition legislators led to a confrontation with the police. Opposition members alleged police high-handedness and mistreatment during the demonstration and approached the High Court seeking action. Meanwhile, the ruling party staged counter-protests and burned effigies, alleging that an opposition legislator made derogatory remarks and caste slurs against the Assembly Speaker. The Chief Minister demanded an apology and sought the disqualification of the legislator. In response, the legislator clarified that the contentious remarks were directed at police personnel and not at the Assembly Speaker.

00:00Let me bring in Abdul Bashir who's joining us live from Hyderabad with more details on this.
00:05Abdul, a whole lot of drama that was played playing out in the Telangana Assembly.
00:09Now beyond this moment that we see on our screens where KTR was being detained,
00:13there are also allegations of the speaker being insulted and what not.
00:17So it's all going down essentially in the Telangana Assembly.
00:24Well yes, it was a high voltage drama that had taken place
00:28or high voltage politics on the streets of, you know, streets in front of Telangana Assembly today
00:33where one side, the BRS, which started as a protest, landed in a scuffle with a police.
00:38Now here, high handedness of the police was the allegation that were put forward
00:42as you can see in the visuals from KTR to Harish Rao
00:45and former Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy was also pulled by her hair is what she has alleged.
00:52Now several of the BRS MLAs were treated, provided medical treatment after this particular scuffle.
00:58But on the other hand, there was a BRS MLC Tata Madhu
01:01who had allegedly used derogatory comments against the speaker, Gaddam Prasadgaro.
01:07Now here, now these remarks have been taken as against the Dalits now
01:11and all the Congress leaders here have protested
01:14and also given a representation to the Chief Minister
01:17asking him to disqualify BRS MLC Tata Madhu,
01:20wherein Tata Madhu has given a clarification that it was not,
01:23that his remarks were against the speaker, against the, you know, the chair or the chairman of the house.
01:30But these remarks were just towards the police officials is what Tata Madhu has clarified.
01:35But however, the tensions have escalated now with all that political heat,
01:39which began on the streets in front of the Telangana Assembly.
01:42Now it landed inside the assembly and to the court as well,
01:45where the BRS has approached the high court seeking action against those police officers who are manhandled.
01:50And also now the Congress MLAs are seeking action against Tata Madhu,
01:55BRS MLC Tata Madhu, for his comments against, allegedly against the Speaker of the House.
02:01Over to you.
02:01Abdul, just stay with me.
02:03You know, what we're also tracking, that these are two aspects essentially of the story.
02:06One is what's happened with KTR in the beginning of the day, even before the assembly kicked off.
02:11And then right after that, you also had allegations that the Congress leveled against a BRS MLC,
02:17alleging that he had insulted and even heard a Dalit slur at, in fact, the speaker, a casteist slur at
02:24the speaker.
02:25Now it is over that that there's been also a showdown.
02:28So much so that Telangana Chief Minister, Revant Reddy, has lashed out, demanded an apology and demanded action against the
02:34BRS MLC.
02:35So on one hand, if you've got the BRS leading this kind of a protest where they're wearing black T
02:41-shirts,
02:41and the other Congress leaders were seen burning effigies today over the BRS MLC's comment, alleged comment against the speaker.
02:50So a lot of drama that's playing out in the Telangana Assembly right now over this issue.
02:56The Chief Minister, Revant Reddy, also speaking in the Assembly on this issue, has picked that up.
03:01So you're seeing the state set between the BRS and the Congress for a big face-off tomorrow as well.
03:07We will also give you a sense of whether the BRS has chosen to back the MLC in question here.
03:12And Abdul, if you're with us, I'll get that clarification from you as well on how the BRS has chosen
03:17to respond
03:18to questions and allegations that they insulted the speaker.
03:25Well, apart from the BRS MLC, Tata Madhu, who spoke with us and said that these were the remarks not
03:30intentionally towards the speaker,
03:32but it was against the police officials.
03:34Well, on the other hand, the BRS has not, the other BRS leaders like KT Rama Rao and Harish Rao
03:40has not commented on this particular incident yet.
03:42But Congress is taking this as a very big game for tomorrow.
03:46Today, the monsoon session has begun for the first day, and tomorrow is a big day for the politics in
03:51Telangana.
03:52On one side, the charge against the police officials, against the Congress of the high-handedness, alleged high-handedness against
03:58the BRS MLAs.
03:59On the other hand, the Congress is alleging the derogatory remarks against the speaker, Dalit speaker, Ghatam Prasad Garo, by
04:08BRS MLC Tata Madhu.
04:09So it's to be seen what would be the, you know, day tomorrow for the politics here in Telangana when
04:15it comes to the charge against each other, be it the Congress or the BRS.
04:20Okay.
