00:00We're all up at the big house freezing our nuts off.
00:02Yeah.
00:02And he's getting all the jammy dodgers and all the sandwiches
00:05and everything down at the lake house,
00:06and we're all up there freezing.
00:08I think it's the character that Guy wants to be.
00:11It's so lovely to meet you.
00:12How cool is it for you guys to be in a show like this,
00:16which is so successful,
00:18and is bringing you to a whole younger generation
00:20who now get to see what I've seen kind of growing up in my entire life?
00:24It's pretty awesome for me.
00:25I feel like a young generation,
00:26because I'm really big fans of both of these gentlemen.
00:28And just to be able to be, no, truly,
00:31to be in a show with them has been really a blessing.
00:34But it's awesome to, it makes you feel younger, doesn't it?
00:38When young people.
00:39You know, I was just about to say that.
00:40Yeah.
00:40Because, you know, I'm getting on a bit now.
00:43And to be in a show this particular age that's successful is,
00:48you know, I didn't really see that coming, you know.
00:52We light the candle, don't it, mate?
00:53Yeah, you know.
00:54It gives you that buzz again, you know.
00:55We haven't been to them award shows for ages, have we, bro?
00:58We haven't, no.
00:59It'll be a long while, I suppose.
01:00No, there'll be plenty of them.
01:02You are screen icons, though.
01:04And I'm sure people are quoting your lines at you all the time
01:07when they see you from, like, your projects.
01:09Are there anything in The Gentleman
01:12which you think is going to become strongly associated with you?
01:15I think that one in The Guns With Me, when he says,
01:18I'm getting an erection, I say, I said, that's the right response.
01:21Yeah, that's the right response.
01:22You know, when he goes like that, he goes, I think I feel an erection coming on.
01:26That's the right response.
01:27I think that might be a bit of a line, yeah.
01:30I don't know, really, with me.
01:32I don't think of it as, you know, a line that's going to be iconic.
01:37I suppose it's hard when you're in it, isn't it?
01:39Yeah, it is.
01:40You know, I think the audience make their mind up what lines they kind of like.
01:43Yeah, the young lads.
01:45Yeah, they find it, you know, and then you hear it in the street or something like that.
01:48I think when you're actually playing the part, it's not that it's,
01:52you don't look at it saying that's going to be a line that's going to be remembered.
01:55It's just the way you happen to say it or the situation.
01:59The commitment, yeah.
02:00So it's a bit difficult for me, maybe it's because I'm stupid or something like that.
02:04No, no, no, I think you are, you've nailed it, absolutely.
02:06Do you two, though, look at Ray when he's doing, like, or watching this back and think,
02:10you jammy so-and-so, like, all of your scenes are, like, in a sauna.
02:13Well, he only comes in for a few days.
02:15Or has an exquisite, exquisite, yeah, they've got you working hard.
02:18Yeah, he comes in for a few days, he has his own crew and cast and everything down there.
02:21Yeah.
02:21We're all up at the big house freezing our nuts on.
02:24Yeah.
02:24And he's getting all the jammy dodgers and all the sandwiches and everything down at
02:27the lake house and we're all up there freezing.
02:30I think it's, I think it's the character that Guy wants to be.
02:33Oh.
02:34Yeah, I mean, you know, he's kind of in his heaven, you know, he's there.
02:38The, the, the outside world can't get to him.
02:41It's the sauna on.
02:42Yeah, no.
02:43It's not.
02:43Well, your glasses are slinging him up and the camera will, wouldn't he?
02:46But it's, it's like, and he's eating a nice bit of steak, a nice bit of joe, right?
02:50Yeah, that's real, mate.
02:52Yeah, yeah, that is.
02:53That's real, the steak's real.
02:54You know, and drinking a nice drop of coffee.
02:55I mean, that's a heaven of glass.
02:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:58Well, he does it in his trailer.
02:59That's so good.
03:00And he's actually.
03:01Potbelly stove.
03:02Yeah, he's running the world.
03:03He, yeah, you smell it, he takes it out.
03:05He took it.
03:05The first time, maybe we, we're having this whole conversation.
03:08I'm smelling stuff.
03:08I don't know what it is.
03:09And he opens the stove.
03:09He takes it out and he slices it.
03:12And he looks at me and says, you know, it's a different butcher.
03:15Butcher.
03:16My butcher was away.
03:17And he slices another piece.
03:19It needs salt.
03:20And I'm looking at him and I said, hey, what about me?
03:23Oh, would you like a piece?
03:25Yeah, I'd like to taste it.
03:28No, it's, you know, look, part of what we do is we have the ability
03:32to live part of our fantasies and our lives to what we do as actors.
03:36But as a writer, you can control the narrative, right?
03:39Which is a beautiful thing.
03:40And to have a writer like Guy who controls the narrative in a way
03:44that is commensurate with history, past, present, and talks
03:48about the aristocracy and talks about what it's like to be a gangster,
03:52all those things, it's a very wide arena in which to play and to express yourself.
03:59And with that, you can sprinkle a little bit of yourself everywhere.
04:01I love it.
04:02I don't get to see this world anywhere else other than this.
04:05If you read a book that you love, right, and there's characters
04:08in that book you love, could you imagine being one of those characters
04:11in the book?
04:12Yeah, that would be amazing.
04:13That's what it's like for us sometimes.
04:14If you get the right part and the right show, you know, I don't know
04:19whether it's like the Mad Atter or something, but that role,
04:23that's what you get to play sometimes.
04:25And that's, I think that's quite a good summary.
04:27Very satisfying.
04:28It looks really fun.
04:29And I think that's so nice, we can go to work and just have fun as well.
04:33We already know that there is a season three as well.
04:35Oh, is there?
04:36Love to break it to you, Ray, but you'll hopefully be back.
04:41You nicked all the budget, Ray, that's what happened.
04:44Come on, he went deep this time.
04:46Have you got any actor pals who you would really love to join season three?
04:50Do you know who came in?
04:50You probably know him.
04:51Roth.
04:52Do you know that lad that was in Pulp Fiction at the beginning?
04:55Yeah.
04:55Was it Roth?
04:56Tim Roth?
04:57Tim Roth.
04:58Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:59He come to my mind the other day, just bizarrely, and I said to my girlfriend,
05:03I went, oh, he's up there.
05:04And the guy is Max, isn't he?
05:06Max, the young guy, he got killed in the first season.
05:07Oh, Max Beasley.
05:09I love Max Beasley.
05:10He's never got killed yet.
05:11I just, you know, somehow, he changed his face a little bit.
05:14Max is the governor.
05:15Max, he is one of my favourite people on the planet.
05:18Did he make your feelings now?
05:19Yeah, he's a good egg.
05:20And he's one of the most talented.
05:22Well, a musician, eh?
05:23Musician, actor, accents, that lad's got it all.
05:26I think he's at Ronnie Scott's soon.
05:28Oh, he's just amazing.
05:29I was, the saddest I've ever been in the show is when I heard that he got shot,
05:34but then he was ringing me and I said, well, look.
05:36Yeah, but it wasn't real.
05:36He didn't really get shot.
05:38No, but I did it in Snatch.
05:39We, we, where I get shot and go over.
05:42Yeah.
05:42And he comes out, Tony, Tony.
05:44We, we filmed it as well.
05:46Me coming up from the couch in Snatch in case he ever needed it.
05:49Can we do that with Max?
05:51Yeah.
05:51And I said to Max, I said, don't worry.
05:53If Guy wants you back in, it'll be back in.
05:55Yeah.
05:56He could turn up next season.
05:58That'd be great.
05:59But for me, it would be Max.
06:00I would, if I had, if I had one wish for this show.
06:03Beasley's the Max.
06:04Yeah, beautiful.
06:04It would.
06:05I do love Max.
06:06I bet he'd love to hear that.
06:07That's really nice.
06:08Maybe he'll see this.
06:09He's probably the naturally gifted actor in the whole thing.
06:12Absolutely, yeah.
06:13What he can do, yeah.
06:14I also want to talk to you guys though about the Guy Ritchie experience.
06:17Because I've spoken to other people on like shows like Sherlock and they've, they've said
06:21how like, he will, you'll have your scripts and then Guy will come in that morning and
06:25be like, right, I want you to do it this way, this way, this way.
06:27Like, is, what is your Guy Ritchie experience?
06:30It's exactly the same, but once you know that, you're ready for that.
06:35And it's usually more or less 99.9% of the time better.
06:41Okay.
06:42So you go do what you gotta do kid, you know?
06:44And it's not like a guy comes in and says do it this way.
06:47I think each of us have a very particular relationship with Guy.
06:51So it's like he comes to you and we talk about it.
06:54Now you know where he's going, it's gonna change.
06:56Yeah.
06:57But he wants to hear your thought.
06:59Yeah.
07:00And then he allows you to know what's gonna change and he's inclusive.
07:04So it's not like a dictator coming in and saying blah, blah, blah, blah.
07:07It's like, well, I think we can do it better.
07:08I don't think we've captured it.
07:09This is the words he used with me.
07:10Yeah.
07:11And I respected that.
07:12We haven't quite captured what it really is.
07:14I don't know what it is.
07:15That's the first step.
07:16When you say, I don't know, let's find out, I have some ideas.
07:20Well, of course he does.
07:21Yeah.
07:21Right?
07:22It allows you to be a part of the process of getting to where you need to go.
07:26And that's so phenomenal.
07:28Do you know the thing is as well?
07:30I mean, what it shows you, I don't know where he gets the energy from.
07:33I really don't.
07:34But his mind is working all the time.
07:37Because he must go home that night.
07:40And it must be wise asleep.
07:42It must be going on in his head, on in his head.
07:45Sorting out the problem in his head.
07:47And then when we come to the day where we're going to do that particular scene.
07:51With those particular words.
07:53And this happens probably every night.
07:55You know?
07:56He's ready.
07:57He comes to work.
07:58He's ready.
07:59And then he's still, while you're doing it, it'll change again.
08:03But it's for the better.
08:05I have heard that.
08:06No one said anything.
08:07He'll let the writer read it to him as well.
08:09Yeah.
08:10Like, literally read it to him and he'll go, ah, don't work there.
08:13You know?
08:14So, yeah.
08:16There's a bit of improvisation on the set.
08:20Yeah.
08:20But it's, you know, it's all for the good.
08:22As Ray says, it's 100% better.
08:24Listen, it's working.
08:25The show is so great.
08:27And the second half of this season kind of blew my mind every single time it ended.
08:31Like, every episode, I was like, this is great.
08:33So, yeah.
08:33Have you seen it all?
08:34I've seen it all.
08:35I watched the entire thing.
08:36On a big screen or a small one?
08:37Little screen.
08:38But I watched it.
08:39It was how I spent my bank holiday and it was a lovely way to spend it.
08:42Yesterday.
08:43Wow, you did it.
08:44I did it.
08:44I did it all.
08:46Lovely to meet you.
08:47Lovely to meet you as well.
08:49Well done.
08:50Watch your head.
